I posted about this in the doc as well. Found it randomly. After playing around a bit it only seems to work on certain screens, and when transitioning left. It definitely makes traversing the town quicker.

What I am doing is holding the move key in the opposite direction once the transition begins; and continuing to hold it once it ends. The game decides I'm too far off the map; and warps me to the middle of the map. Sometimes farther.
I have no idea if anyone else has done this although I saw something similar mentioned in the doc. I haven't played with it much; someone else would need to test the timing to figure out if it's better. It may also work in other area I am unaware of.
What patch is this on? I might try to mess around with it a bit if I can find the time.
