This is a guide to all known glitches and exploits in Level Editor 3. If you know a glitch, exploit, or any peculiar thing about this game that isn't here, you can tell that in the Discord server or speedrun.com forums, and I'll add it in this guide.

Glitches:

  • Pause Abuse: If you pause when picking up placeable items, they will be added to your inventory faster. This only saves in-game time.
  • Key door clipping (moving blocks): If you are getting pushed up by a vertical moving block near a key door, and your head is pushed towards the door by a horizontal moving block, you will either clip through the door or die. The second can make your limbs stuck in the door, causing the game to lag or even crash.
  • Key door clipping (temporary blocks): If your head is pushed towards a replace/timer block on the height of your legs, you will get clipped through that temporary block. If when clipping through the block you start walking towards a key door, you can get clipped through the door too. This is much more reliable than the previous method.
  • Walk on top of the screen: If you can get 4 tiles higher than the highest visible tile, you will be able to walk on top of the screen (like SMB1 1-2 warp zone).
  • Cursor Glitch: If you are about to place something on an available tile on one frame, and place the block inside of yourself of an object on the next frame, the placement will work, causing the object to clip through the ground or killing/pushing forward/upward your character.
  • Ladder flight: If you are positioned right in the middle of a border between two ladder tiles and your head is being pushed by a horizontal moving block, you will still be hanging on the ladder, but will be moving with the block. You can stop flying by going down the invisible ladder you are hanging from.
  • Ceiling clip: You can clip through a one tile thick ceiling if you hold jump while riding an up moving block into a this ceiling.

Exploits (allowed in glitchless):

  • Corner boosting: If you fall onto a corner while moving in the direction it is facing, the game will combine your walking speed with the momentum a corner is pushing you off of it, which will give you a boost. The more you fall after a boost, the more frames it will save.
  • Key door boosting: If you clip into a key door only partially by standing in it while it's closing, you can get pushed forwards by the closing door.
  • Low spring jump: If you land onto a corner of a spring, the slide off from that corner will interrupt the spring's bounce, making you fall or get a smaller bounce from the spring.

General movement tips:

  • Ceiling bonking: Jumping into a ceiling loses 2 frames, so avoid doing that if it's not needed.
  • Ladder jumping: Pressing left/right and then jump while on a ladder will cause you to jump from it.
  • Going through an opening key door: It is faster to jump through an opening key door over waiting until it opens enough for you to walk through it.
