Hey guys, I’ve been a speedrunner for a while now but I’m pretty new to final fantasy 14. I’d like to try to do some runs but I’m starting to think I might need to max some things out first?

I have a level 41 ninja. So far the fastest I could solo 1-10 PotD was 22:30. Someone mentioned there is some stat that would make me stronger and able to clear it out more quickly? I’m also unclear on the rules because there don’t appear to be any rules.

I’m also seeing people completely dominate dungeons while solo. I’m guessing they are somehow going in without syncing their level?

Are there any resources or guides for a new player that I might have missed?

You are right on the solo dungeon runners going in without their levels being synced. They are also at Level 70 so you have some grinding to do.

Will any level 70 be able to destroy dungeons that quickly or is gear a factor?

Gear is a factor because it also depends on what you play as because naturally, some classes can do more damage than others, even with equal item levels.

Any advice on my main question about PotD? Is there some advantage players get by being higher level or something?

The only way to gain an advantage in PotD is by making your weapon and armour stronger. Also the EXP system is different in PotD as opposed to the main game.

Because Aetherpool stats are something that anyone can obtain, and the randomness of upgrade drops cannot be equallized, I'd expect that you would want to get both the Aetherpool Arm and Aetherpool Armor to level 100 before trying to get a record in Palace of the Dead. I don't know the rules for sure myself.

You will absolutely need aetherpool to 99/99 for PotD and/or HoH to have good times. Some jobs will perform better than others regardless (just like the comment about dungeons).
