You can use any or all of the patches below in your speedruns. You can apply them using any hex editor (e.g., [HxD](https://mh-nexus.de/en/hxd/)), or you can use [this tool](https://github.com/periwinkle9/CSSpeedrunPatcher) that I made instead if you aren't comfortable with that.

All values are in hexadecimal. The original values are given for reference so you can double-check that you're modifying the correct offsets.

# Keep the game running when not in focus:

# Make the game window bigger:

This changes the 320x240 windowed mode by multiplying these dimensions by a scale factor. To use this, apply the patch for the scale factor you want and then set the display mode to 320x240 windowed mode in DoConfig.  
Note, using this patch may incur a small performance penalty—initial tests indicate that a full Best Ending run may be a few seconds slower with the patch, depending on your computer.

Here is a patch for a 3x size multiplier (960x720):

# Automatically advance text when holding Z or X:

**Note: If you plan to submit a run using auto text advance, then you must use this patch to do it. Other methods that achieve a similar effect (e.g., turbo buttons) are not allowed.**

You can find all the saves in the "Practice saves" folder, you need to rename the save as "Profile.dat" and place it in the Cave Story directory.

If your game has black boxes around all of the sprites, try downloading this to fix it. (If you find that the game is lagging with this installed, try downloading the 0.5.1 release instead of the latest one.)

Once you run the application, press the "Update exe Directory" button and find your Doukutsu.exe location. You may then edit and save from Preset or Custom profiles.

a save manager that allows you to back up your current save with a custom name and load saves from a list of previously backed up saves

### Usage:

place the exe in the same directory your game is.  it will create a "save" folder which it will use to store backed up saves

- back up your current save by writing a name into the input box (dont type the file extension there) and hit "save as".  the save will be added to the list under the name you set it as.
- load a save by clicking it on the list and hitting the "load" button under the list
- delete a save by selecting it, then right click it and select "delete"
- you can also rename a save by choosing "rename" under the "delete" option
