@FrikenPorpoise this is the reason that I've supported disallowing desynced mods, since in synced versions of the game it's based on ping and because of that, impossible to consistently dectect if your gim is in the laser. It isn't the reason that the records look impossible to pull off, you can look at the Release Physics WR which is synced and the lasers still don't look right. This is due to the server thinking that you are at a slightly different position than it looks like on your side. The higher the ping, the more off the server thinks you are. Desynced runs attempt to recreate this ping effect, however they can't recreate what actually happens in the normal state of the game.
To answer your question, normally desync mods give you a notification saying that you hit a laser or will respawn you back to the previous summit, but they often don't work which may cause nothing to happen when colliding with a laser.
In reality, it isn't very important considering there aren't many active competitive players on this game, as desynced mods give many conveniences to runners. Your run would probably be judged by seeing if you obviously hit a laser, and if not it would still be verified.

@winner08775 occasionally you will get "elevator lag" which just makes the elevator hitbox go away very shortly after the avatar disappears. It's based on a packet loss with doors, so at the end of the day it is random and based on ping. However, if you wait a long time in the elevator, you are much more likely to get elevator lag.

@fhole previously you could place a clock down in library/the electrical room and it would deafen figure, however that has been patched. now, you have to enter/exit closets to "stun" figure temporarily. You can watch the solo no shop hotel world record to see an example of that.
