Welcome aboard George.
That stock answer is, play what you can stand playing repetitively for hours! If that's not good enough, Super Mario World has a slew of categories and tutorials to get you started.
Mega Man all day long! You might be surprised to know I'm a huge fan. Good luck and welcome aboard @macispoopy
If you're open to suggestions, we'd love to have you at https://www.speedrun.com/sf2gb or https://www.speedrun.com/kdl Both games are very easy to learn (Street Fighter not really having any concrete strats to practice for hours) and are less than 15 minutes to run.
You're in luck, there are in depth guides on speedrunning for both the Pokemon and Sonic series.
I personally learned (very basic) run of Pokemon Red and it wasn't too bad, simply follow the step by step guide and slowly memorize what to do and improve from there. You could do the same thing with Sonic, just depends on whether RPG style gameplay or platforming is your forte'. Make sure you check the game specific forums for rules and guides pertaining to that individual game. https://www.speedrun.com/pkmnredblue/guides is a good place to start for you, good luck!
Welcome aboard @TnyYye
What games did you enjoy growing up? That's where I would start, play what you enjoy because you will be playing a lot of it!
Welcome aboard Zamu.
The allowance of emulators is handled on a game by game basis. To see what is allowed, it's best to check the forum and rules for the specific game. In Super Mario's case, https://www.speedrun.com/smb1 is where you want to check.
Good luck on your runs!
Hey @HappyPants84, look on the left side when you click my link and click "Forums" Sorry I'm not sure why my link isn't directing you there.
Welcome aboard HappyPants84, I hope you enjoy your community.
For game specific questions, check the forums attached to the games leaderboard. For Destiny 2, check here https://www.speedrun.com/destiny2/forum.
Howdy, if you have a new game to submit for a leaderboard, go here https://www.speedrun.com/games and in the top right corner click "request a new game". Make sure you fill everything out as thoroughly as possible to increase the chance that it gets accepted! I've never played that one, but it sounds like fun (like most N64 games).
I play some CS:GO and Chess when I'm not practicing whichever game I'm actively running. It passes the time an keeps my brain sharp(ish)
Welcome to the speedcrew Gamerlife, I wish you good fortune with the RNGods
Welcome aboard Dust. Shadow Tactics, I've never played that one sounds like a fun game thought. Good luck on the runs!
If you had any ideas or questions directly about that game, it would be more beneficial to post them in the game specific forums. https://www.speedrun.com/shadow_tactics/forum
I applaud you giving equal value to all categories of runs :)
Welcome aboard, I've never heard of Crusader Kings, but good luck on your runs!
When is the marathon being held? (About page says May but has a countdown currently at 5x days.)
Welcome aboard and good luck on your runs! I loved GT growing up.
My longest run so far is 2:15 for Pokemon Red, ut will be Final Fantasy 7. A few of you all on here are insane. . . .39 hour run, mad respect to you.
For me, it's Lofi or some funky old school Jazz music. Thelonious Monk, Issac Hayes, Miles Davis or Satchmo are frequently flowing through the speakers.
I just brand all of my Stream/Twitch/Speedrun stuff with my profile pic. Just a bearded dude in a Mega Man helmet that loosely resembles me.
