Yeah Leo had it down, seemed like he had the exact positioning so he knew when to pull back so as to perfectly cancel the door animation. I do the flicking to just kinda fudge it a little. But the thing about the multiple loops that is so hard is that the only real visual confirmation you get is that kinda pull (don't know how else to describe it, but I think you can see it in the above video) you get as if you're about to walk through the door again because the door itself which was the most obvious visual clue is either gone or stuck and wont give you any more hints that's it's been further glitched. I do the same thing you do plywood, three steps then start inching forward with the flicking and when I see the door glitch I immediately hold back on the stick so I hopefully don't walk through.I skipped all the way to the gouge it out loop in my most recent stream of the game, but then messed up so bad later since I was out of practice that I still came in at around 8:35.

I played a little last night and while you were right about only being able to reload the last loop once from the start it was still only after beating the game that I was even able to do that. I cleared my save and ran through again and put all the pictures together and when I reloaded my old save after beating the game, the fragments were gone like you said, but I'm not sure that proves much since it again only worked after playing through the entire game once. It's definitely some sort of glitch but I feel it has something to do with that save file and either way involves beating the game completely first, so even though it's a cool bug it doesn't help you beat it any faster since you'd technically have to start time when you start the first playthrough that seems to be required to even trigger the bug.

Just thought I'd add this to help anyone that is unclear about how to delete your old save file and also to show anyone who needs to know what the game looks like when you start from a fresh save as opposed to when you start with a file already saved.

Basically, you know it's a clean save if after launching the game and waiting for it to load, it opens on the settings screen instead of just going straight into the first room and you can see what that looks like if you jump to 2:23 in the video. Decided to leave the early parts of the video for comparison purposes and in case someone needs instructions on how to delete their old save file.

Sure, I'll try and stream my findings tonight or tomorrow, but today I was able to keep loading the previous save over and over again as long as I didn't progress past the first door on the first loop after one playthrough of the game. As far as the picture fragments, the game may just not do a good job tracking them. As we've seen, it doesn't seem to know whether or not you've picked up the flashlight as sometimes you have it and sometimes you don't at the end when you use glitches. When glitches are in play, it's tough to predict whats happening to that poor save file. I've said on my streams in the past, I'm surprised the game isn't even buggier considering it was only a demo for an unfinished game.

And for the record that was not starting from a clean save. Not sure if that makes it easier to glitch the door or not, but from now on, any run I do is going to be from a clean save, just to be safe. If I notice that it makes glitching the door much more difficult, then I'll let you guys know since I still run this game all the time.

That's just utilizing the door glitch and I don't think is effected by the save. You pretty much walk up to the door, walk into it enough that you just trigger it opening, then you pull back immediately, cancelling the door animation and skipping that loop. Then the door is either stuck there or sometimes it vanishes, but you can keep rapidly glitching it, it's just harder to do because the animation is broken, but every time you do it successfully, you skip another loop, so he must have done it enough times to get to the loop where Lisa kills you, which is the loop after you see the gouge it out message for the first time.

Here's an example from my run last night where I skipped multiple loops to get straight to the flashlight loop. Wish I had kept going but I gave up because I was getting tired. Really does a number on my wrist.

Respectfully, since the game doesn't have "new game plus" as a feature, I also don't think this counts as anything. The game autosaves and doesn't have any game saving feature built into the game and the only way to clear your save is to delete it from the PS4 settings menu.

I also ran it on my lunch break, without streaming or recording yet, and it's clear it's simply loading the previous save, that's why once you beat the game, it will keep loading the final loop after restart until you go beyond the first cycle or otherwise overwrite the old save. I didn't even glitch any doors or anything and I was able to get it to go back to the final loop again without doing anything other than restarting from the first loop after beating the game once.

I can still add an edited video later just to show how the saving process works and what the game looks like when it's starting from a fresh save so all the mods know what to look for.

OK, so I tried this last night, and I couldn't do it, but I didn't really watch the videos closely until this morning and unfortunately now I think I see what happened. Last night, I was using the pause screen to save the game as instructed, but when I watched the current WR run this morning, I noticed that the game never saves. Keep an eye on the bottom right hand corner. The save icon doesn't come up when you go through the final door leading into the cutscene and it doesn't come up after you pause the game because the save icon won't appear until after you return to the game from the pause screen. In the current WR run, the game is quit out very quickly on the pause screen so I'm afraid the game never saved. Then when the game is reloaded I believe it's just reloading the previous save which would be at the final loop.

Hate to seem like the jerk here but I am just trying to help make sure we are all getting it right. You have mastered the door glitch far better than I did in my old WR run, so I'm very confident it won't take you long to shatter that record just on the door glitch alone.

Yeah I totally get that, but even if the timing stayed the same, I would feel much better if the video still had to show it started from the settings screen, at least for any% new game like the category says, and I'm guilty of not deleting my old file in the past too just to save the extra loading time while streaming because I wasn't sure if it mattered.

I'm going to give it a run through tonight. I am in no way calling you a liar, I just know from my experience in video game QA that glitches are unpredictable (for instance, restarting the game during the crashing loop sends you back an extra loop so you're on the fast running loop again) so I just want to make sure we're all on the same page before we all end up doing something that could be the wrong way. Sorry I haven't watched your twitch streams other than the clips you posted, but have you been able to produce the glitch from a fresh save file or only after completing the game at least once on an old save file?

By the way, I really love this game too and have been playing it forever and I remember watching your early stuff to help me out once I started officially speedrunning it, so thanks for all the help! I think you're an awesome runner and you did an amazing job blowing this glitch wide open.

Also starting from the settings screen would be easy verification that everyone is starting from a clean save file. But again, I know that would be a pretty dramatic reset to how the game is run. Just thinking out loud here as that's always been a big pet peeve of mine running this game for so long.

One other way, though it might not work for you, is if you "purchased" the demo on PSN when it was out, even if you didn't have a ps4 or never downloaded it, you can load the actual game form the backup of someone who has it. My game was accidentally deleted a while back, but I was able to load the game from a friend's backup and since I had the license I was able to install it and play it again.

California, USAFlaco_Jones7 years ago

Really glad a glitchless category was added too. I've been saying that on my stream forever. If only we could change the start time to be from hitting option on the setting screen, since it feels like pressing start the conventional way and I've always felt starting at first movement was kinda dumb, but that would involve upending all of the leader boards...

California, USAFlaco_Jones7 years ago

Totally trying this later on in the week. I knew it wouldn't be long before these times were busted wide open due to the glitch being super skippy. Great work everybody!

Yeah I said "time" at the wrong spot which would have made the run clock in at a few frames before 1m33s but when I actually timed it later with a stopwatch as I was editing, I got the appropriate extra time that made it 1m34s which is what I submitted.

California, USAFlaco_Jones8 years ago

Maybe a silly question, but if a 100% run ends up being faster than an any% run (which is possible, since getting the 6 items can be easily done during down time) does it count for both?

California, USAFlaco_Jones8 years ago

Assuming upgrades are fair game on any%? Specifically I'm thinking fire hose for the vine levels and sniper rifle to eliminate climbing to some objectives.
