Hey guys - I just discovered this page for Super Hang-ON, which is easily one of my favorites. I understand the desire to limit runs of the original mode to actual Hardware due to accuracy in processing speed, but I was hoping an exception could be made for extremely accurate emulators such as Kega Fusion: http://www.segaretro.org/Kega_Fusion
The Fusion emulator is widely accepted in the speedrunning community. I'm not sure why it wouldn't work here as well.
the original mode category is for the genesis version of the game which is in fact a mode that you select on the menu. original mode goes through kinda like a "story mode" would where you can get different companies to sponsor you, buy different mechanics and buy bike parts. as far as emulators go, i know nothing about them but what i do know is that we currently have runners using emulators on the leader board and that is why IGT determines place order instead of RTA because the emulator that they are using runs the game faster. i personally do not see a problem in using the emulator that you are proposing because like i said, if it runs the game faster, it doesnt matter because the place order on the board is determined by IGT which will not change even if the game is running faster than usual.
The thing about Original Mode is that it doesn't have an IGT, unless we're adding up the IGT for all races. Otherwise, it would have to run RTA, in which case original mode WOULD be affected by inaccurate speed on an emulator. I know I'd totally work on and run Original mode, but I don't really have the option to re-acquire a Genesis and set up recording for it at this time.
in that case. if the emulator you are using is ran at the same speed then i say it can be allowed and i will edit the rules for that category.
