This is the current route for Majora's Mask 100% on English Wii VC. 100% means get everything that doesn't get removed when you play song of time, as well as complete all the trials on the moon to get Fierce Deity's mask. Rupee route doesn't include RNG drops.

Any% English Beginner Route (2018)

This is just a route I've finally settled on as a beginner after trying all the various options. Message me with any questions or suggestions.

--- Cycle 1 ---
Happy Mask skip, then reset once cutscene starts.
Grandma to third day.
Scarecrow dance (Trading Post) to third night.
Stray Fairy in East.
Stock Pot Inn rupees.
Back walk out of East to Termina Field, then enter North.
Magic.
Deposit 90 rupees.
Gainer to clock tower (wait till midnight).
Bubble, get Ocarina, equip it, Song of Time, reset on choosing "Yes".

--- Cycle 2 ---
Song of Healing.
Silver Rupee in East.
Buy Bomb Bag and Bombchus, equip both (leave Ocarina).
Hidden Owl (using all your Bombchus close to loading zone).
Void out, then withdraw 90 rupees and buy 20 bombchus.
Equip Deku Mask, then leave through South.
Wear Deku Mask, then back walk to flower just outside Observatory.
Fly in, use telescope, get Moon's Tear.
Use two bombs to hover over the fence.
Wear Deku Mask again, then back walk to Gossip Stone.
Stop time by using Ocarina and immediately canceling in front of it.
Back walk the next area and go to Southern Swamp.
Lost Woods (LRRSLL), talk to Koume.
Get Bottle from Kotake.
Skip Big Octo, clip cliff, and fly to Song of Soaring.
Deku Palace, go left, hover onto walls, fly to Sonata of Awakening.
Equip Bottle over bombs, and index warp to Mountain Village.
Get bombs by owl if you need them, then go to Goron Village.
Remove Deku Mask, then soar to Great Bay.
Get Mikau to shore, double roll forward and overlap Bottle cutscene.
Song of Healing, get Zora Mask.
Equip Bombs over Bottle, and Zora Mask over Ocarina; swim to Pirate's fortress.
Swim to Goron switch, then bomb hover across.
Wear Zora Mask, stun pirate by ladder, climb ladder, stun pirate across bridge.
Wear Deku Mask, watch cutscene, bubble wasp hive.
Leave room, side hop to the right, get Hookshot.
Remove Deku Mask, equip Bottle over Bombs, Hookshot over Deku Mask.
Get Zora Egg, ESS to play Ocarina underwater (or float up if missed); soar to Great Bay.
Equip Bombs over Bottle, dupe Zora Egg over Moon's Tear six times, then drop the real one.
New Wave Bossa Nova cutscene skip; soar to Great Bay.
Swim to Zora Cape, pick up Magic (and Bombs and Fairy if needed).
Turtle Cutscene Skip.
Equip Hookshot over Bottle, and Hookshot onto Turtle.
Great Bay Boss Key Skip; defeat Gyorg and get remains; learn Oath to Order.
Equip Ocarina over Bombs, and Deku Mask over Zora Mask.
Get Bombs if low, Fairy if you like, soar to Woodfall, play Sonata of Awakening.
Hookshot torch, then Hookshot next torch, and go get the bow.
Equip Zora over Deku, clip into pillar, store Song of Time (use Bomb if helpful).
Equip Bombs over Ocarina (if not already equipped), and Bombchu over Hookshot.
Drop Bomb to stop moths, clip into pillar, downstairs Boss Key Skip.
Equip Bow over Bombchu, and Deku Mask over Bombs.
Bring up Song of Time text during the fight, get Odolwa's remains, save and reset.

--- Cycle 3 ---
Zora side hop from bench for Silver Rupee in East.
Buy Bombs and two sets of Bombchu by mashing.
Equip Ocarina over Bow, soar to Woodfall.
Go to Fairy Fountain, wear Zora, equip Bombs and Bombchu over Deku and Ocarina.
Alternate Exit to Snowhead, ISG, blow up snowball.
Lullaby Skip (if buffering super slide, use Bombchu along the edge instead - no RNG).
Wear Zora, push block, go right (reload Bombs with Zora fire voiding if necessary).
Hookshot chest to cross bridge and go upstairs.
Weird Shot chest to go up.
Bomb jumps to get across (use floor for first one if you like).
Get Fire Arrow (ISG for second phase if timing is bad).
Hookshot torch, hover to snowballs, blow them up, go up.
Fall right, use torch to get out of bounds, store Song of Time (reload bombs if necessary).
Hover across, then Boss Key Skip.
Bring up text during Goht quick fight, get Goht's Remains, save and reset.

--- Cycle 4 ---
Soar to Stone Tower.
Get Bombs, Arrows, Magic, and Fairy.
Stop time with Bottled Fairy on right switch, go across and enter Stone Tower.
Go right, Zora Bomb clip through Sun Block, get small key, come back and use it.
Beat Boes, Weird Shot to chest past Sun Block; get Bomb drop from Nejiron.
Weird Shot to fire chest, defeat Garo Master, Light Arrow, death warp or soar to entrance.
Weird Shot jewel to flip Stone Tower; store Song of Time.
Enter Stone Tower and go right, light arrow Sun Block.
Use Jump Attack recoil to get onto bridge, Recoil Flip to Eyegore.
Defeat Eyegore with two Bombs, or Light Arrow if out of Bombs.
Reload Bombs, Arrows, and Magic, then Boss Key Skip.
Defeat Twinmold with Bomb, Fire and Light Arrows, Twinmold's remains, save and reset.

--- Cycle 5 ---
Bombs from Termina Field (fairy from Gossip Stone if you like).
Hover into Clock Tower using dog.
Oath to Order.
Back walk to Majora (or super slide).
Defeat all masks in Mask phase to prevent disruption.
Arrows to stun Incarnation, try to lock.
Stun lock Wrath, and win.

Emulator Run Archive

With the discovery of text overflow and the debug menu, Project 64 became the fastest version of Majora's Mask. This wasn't acceptable to most in the community, so because emulator runs were hardly ever submitted to the boards anyway (and emulator runs were hidden for years), we decided to just remove emulator from the boards altogether. For archival purposes, here is a list of all emulator PBs up to September 19th, 2019.

Glitchless Advanced Route (by atz)

¤¤¤¤¤ This route is VERY demanding in terms of in-game time, you have almost no room for mistakes early in cycle 2. It is recommended that you use the "Standard" route unless you are very consistent ¤¤¤¤¤

This is the latest version of the Glitchless route, updated to fit the new ruleset. Gainers and Damage Boosts are now allowed (strictly midair damage boosts. Long Jumps and Recoil Flips remain banned). 

There are TWO variations of the route, both of which are nearly identical in overall speed. This is the "Early Hookshot" version of the route, which gets Hookshot before completing Snowhead Temple. For the "Standard" version of the route, see - http://pastebin.com/AdWjNiPh

Cycle 2:


¤¤ Things labelled with a ¤¤ are the most optimal way to do specific things, I have written them for most of the new strats that have come with this route.


- Inverted Song of Time immediately
- Hit Clock Town Owl
- Exit towards swamp

¤¤ New early bomb/deathwarp strats (only recommended for more advanced runners) -

¤¤ As Human Link Try to get a bomb drop from the first set of bushes directly in front of you. If you do not get a bomb drop, go to the set of bushes to the right, and try for another. If you get a bomb drop from either set of bushes, continue to the Swamp.
¤¤ If you do not get a bomb drop, continue towards the ranch, and try to get a bomb from the 3rd set of bushes outside the Ranch. After this, go hit the Ranch Owl, then go to the Swamp, farming a bomb drop if still necessary.
¤¤ If you hit the Ranch Owl, you will soar directly to the Ranch after Snowhead/blowing up the Goron Race.

¤¤ Deathwarp damage route (only if you get bomb drop) - take 2 hits from Deku babas. You want to have 2 hearts when you get the Pictograph box.
- Potion
- Boat ride
- Sonata

¤¤ Left side palace strat - backflip damage boost onto the fence, backflip to higher fence then to deku flower platform. Wait for the platform to go all the way to the back wall, then start moving again, and shoot out of the flower and fly to the last platform, then to the Sonata area. Saves just over 10 seconds. 
¤¤ Alternate deathwarp damage - pull a bomb and take damage from it as you run past the guards. (1 1/2 hearts)

- Right side of Palace, get Red rupee and greens if necessary (need 30 rupees after red rupee)
¤¤ Backflip damage boost onto the fence, then backflip to the other fence to skip guards. Saves a few seconds. If you don't want to do this, pull a bomb and take damage from it as you are passing the guards. (1 heart)
- Gainer or damage boost to the bean grotto, and get both blue rupees

¤¤ If you gainer, pull a bomb immediately after passing the guards in the first section and take damage to it to drop to 1/2 heart.

- Buy 5 beans, deathwarp with a bomb (fast deathwarp is possible)

- Song of Soaring
- Open Woodfall + 1 stick + 10 deku nuts from pots + Woodfall Owl

- Yellow switch underwater, to main room

¤¤ Advanced route - Early Red Turnkey -> Boss key jump -> Small Key -> Ice Arrows (probably saves 20-30 seconds)

¤¤ Normal Route:
- Top entrance, swim through the first room to the one with the Boss Key
- Get small key underwater, swim out to bottom entrance
- Wart for Ice Arrows

- Exit, freeze Octorok for first turnkey

¤¤ Advanced route - after turnkey, go immediately to the "waterfall" room and finish the temple as normal from there

¤¤ Normal Route:
- Swim out, go to top entrance and freeze water in the first room to get to 2nd red turnkey
- Exit, back to boss key room and freeze water for Boss Key early
- Back to main room, go to the “waterfall” room first

( The advanced and normal routes are the same from here until the end )

- Get the green turnkey in there, exit
- Go back to first room of dungeon, turn red turnkey then yellow
- Jump in the water as Goron to void out back to the “waterfall” room
- Swim into the top entrance in middle room
- Get through the waterwheel room + next room, get green turnkey
¤¤ Gainer up the green pipe, roll to the very end then sidehop right and exit the room
- Swim back to main room, go into bottom entrance
- Last turnkey, enter boss door

- Soar to Ikana
- Enter Ikana Castle

¤¤ Gainer up the sun block, climb over the fence and enter the castle (if you don't climb over the fence, you will trigger the cutscene and waste ~10 seconds)
¤¤ Set up for a deathwarp inside the castle after Elegy if you want to. Saves significant time, probably 20 seconds or more

- Hit left switch in first room, enter door
- Zora JS onto ceiling, climb onto switch platform
- Hit switch in next room + cross it. Go upstairs
- Throw keg over fence to blow up the floor
- Damage boost over the fence or enter the main entrance again
- Equip Garo/Gibdo Mask, Mirror Shield the block
- Go to boss room
- Elegy

Cycle 2:


¤¤ Things labelled with a ¤¤ are the most optimal way to do specific things, I have written them for most of the new strats that have come with this route.


- Inverted Song of Time immediately (delay inverting if you are very fast)
- Hit Clock Town Owl
- Exit towards swamp

¤¤ New early bomb/deathwarp strats (only recommended for more advanced runners) -

¤¤ As Human Link Try to get a bomb drop from the first set of bushes directly in front of you. If you do not get a bomb drop, go to the set of bushes to the right, and try for another. If you get a bomb drop from either set of bushes, continue to the Swamp.
¤¤ If you do not get a bomb drop, continue towards the ranch, and try to get a bomb from the 3rd set of bushes outside the Ranch. After this, go hit the Ranch Owl, then go to the Swamp, farming a bomb drop if still necessary.
¤¤ If you hit the Ranch Owl, you will soar directly to the Ranch after Snowhead/blowing up the Goron Race.

¤¤ Deathwarp damage route (only if you get bomb drop) - take 2 hits from Deku babas. You want to have 2 hearts when you get the Pictograph box.
- Potion
- Boat ride
- Sonata

¤¤ Left side palace strat - backflip damage boost onto the fence, backflip to higher fence then to deku flower platform. Wait for the platform to go all the way to the back wall, then start moving again, and shoot out of the flower and fly to the last platform, then to the Sonata area. Saves just over 10 seconds. 
¤¤ Alternate deathwarp damage - pull a bomb and take damage from it as you run past the guards. (1 1/2 hearts)

- Right side of Palace, get Red rupee and greens if necessary (need 30 rupees after red rupee)
¤¤ Backflip damage boost onto the fence, then backflip to the other fence to skip guards. Saves a few seconds. If you don't want to do this, pull a bomb and take damage from it as you are passing the guards. (1 heart)
- Gainer or damage boost to the bean grotto, and get both blue rupees

¤¤ If you gainer, pull a bomb immediately after passing the guards in the first section and take damage to it to drop to 1/2 heart.

- Buy 5 beans, deathwarp with a bomb (fast deathwarp is possible)

- Song of Soaring
- Open Woodfall + 1 stick + 10 deku nuts from pots + Woodfall Owl

- Backflip onto tree, to main room
- Go right, bomb from pots, small key, go back to main room and open door on other side
- Light stick, go upstairs with stick and burn web (get 1 stick + deku nut from babas here)
- Upstairs, light torches to next room
- JS Recoil downstairs
- Bow

- Deathwarp or Song of Soaring to entrance
- Exit Temple
- Song of Soaring to Clock Town

- Go to Mountain Village
- Village Owl
- Go talk to Goron Baby

- Go right, cross room, enter door
- Yellow door for small key
- Goron Boost onto the stackable blocks then jump to the door
- Blow up wall
- Jump to chest in next room (snowball) for small key
- Goron boost to skip the Goron pound puzzle
- Roll to Wizrobe for Fire Arrows
 
- Melt ice to the left, then roll there and go upstairs
- Roll to the next door and unlock
- Progress through next rooms back to main room
- Shoot snowball and jump into the tunnel
- Roll to Wizrobe 2 for Boss Key
- Jump into the tunnel again
- Goht

 
 -------- Ranch Stuff --------
 
- Go get keg, blow up Goron Race
- Do the Goron race if it is before 4:00
- Get Real Keg
- Soar to Clock Town

- Roll to Milk Road, hit Milk Road Owl
- Blow up boulder
- Talk to Romani, archery + Epona’s Song
- Garo Mask

 ¤¤ From now on, you want to get to the curiosity shop at 10:30, uninvert accordingly

- Head to Great Bay, Zora Mask
- Great Bay Owl, go to Pirate’s Fortress
- Go through underground part
- Pirate’s CS Skip
- Hookshot + first Egg
 
IF YOU DID NOT DO THE GORON RACE, SOAR TO MOUNTAIN VILLAGE AND DO IT NOW. 

- Soar to Clock Town
- Sell dust. Catch fish from next shop. Buy keg+chus in bomb shop.
 

-------- Ikana 1 ---------
 
- Exit Clock Town, roll to Ikana
- Call Epona, go to Graveyard
- Kill Keeta for Captain’s Mask
- Open grave, get Song of Storms
- Exit grave, show Garo Mask to the cliff guy
- Hookshot up to the tree, go to Ikana
- Precise hookshot to skip Ice Arrows, hit Ikana Owl
- Song of Storms in the cave
- Gibdo Mask
- Soar to Milk Road, Aliens

- Soar to Woodfall, get 10 deku nuts from pot
- Boss key
- Light torch in main room
- Hookshot to boss door
- Odolwa
 

-------- Ikana 2 --------

- Exit Woodfall princess area, soar to Ikana
- Bottom of the Well
- Mirror Shield

- Soar to Great Bay
- Deposit first egg, go get 3 eggs from either Pinnacle Rock or Pirate’s Fortress (doesn’t matter which)
- NWBN
- Grab a fairy if you're scared of dying to Wart
- Open GBT

 
-------- Great Bay Temple --------

- Yellow switch underwater, to main room

¤¤ Advanced route - Early Red Turnkey -> Boss key jump -> Small Key -> Ice Arrows (probably saves 20-30 seconds)

¤¤ Normal Route:
- Top entrance, swim through first room to Boss Key room
- Get small key underwater, swim out to bottom entrance
- Wart for Ice Arrows
- Exit, freeze Octorok for red turnkey

¤¤ Advanced route - After turnkey, go immediately to the "waterfall" room and finish the temple as normal from there

¤¤ Normal route:
- Swim out, go to top entrance and freeze water in the first room to get to 2nd turnkey
- Exit, back to boss key room and freeze water for Boss Key early
- Back to main room, go to the “waterfall” room first

( The advanced and normal routes are the same from here until the end )

- Get the turnkey in there, exit
- Go back to first room of dungeon, turn red turnkey then yellow
- Jump in the water as Goron to void out back to the “waterfall” room
- Swim into the top entrance in middle room
- Get through the waterwheel room + next room, get green turnkey
¤¤ Gainer onto the green pipe, walk to the end, sidehop right and exit the room
- Exit the room, swim back to main room, go into bottom entrance
- Last turnkey, enter boss door
- Gyorg


-------- Ikana 3 --------

- Soar to Ikana
- Enter Ikana Castle

¤¤ Set up a deathwarp in the castle if you want. It saves probably close to 20 seconds here.

- Gainer over sun block, climb over fence and enter castle (if you do not climb over the fence you won't skip the castle CS, wastes like 10 seconds)

- Hit left switch in first room, enter door
- Zora JS onto ceiling, climb onto switch platform
- Hit switch in next room + cross it. Go upstairs
- Throw keg over fence to blow up the floor
¤¤ Goron boost over the fence or the main entrance again
- Equip Garo/Gibdo Mask, Mirror Shield the block
- Go to boss room
- Elegy

¤¤ Deathwarp
- If you didn't set up the deathwarp, exit the Elegy room and then soar to Ikana Owl.
 

-------- Stone Tower Temple --------

- Exit Castle
- Roll to Stone Tower
- STT Climb
 
Part 1: Elegy on bottom switch as Goron. Elegy on 3rd switch as Human. Jump to 2nd platform, hookshot across
Part 2: Elegy on bottom switch as Human. Hookshot up once to beamos platform. Step on switch, step off. Hookshot up once more. Elegy on the moving platform.
Part 3: Hookshot up twice. Elegy on the LEFT switch if looking at the owl. Jump to moving platform, elegy on it to enter the temple.
 
- Enter STT. If it is not Night 3 yet, play Song of Double Time to Night 3.
 
- Go to left room first
- Blow up wall, solve puzzle using boxes behind the wall + elegy on switches
- Go downstairs
- Use chus to kill all the armos for small key, go upstairs
- Unlock door
- Get small key in water room, swim through tunnel
- Unlock door
- Mirror room puzzle
- Fly across updraft room as Deku
- Garo Master for Light Arrows


-------- Inverted Stone Tower --------

- Soar/deathwarp to entrance
- Exit Temple, step on right switch and Elegy on it to move the platform in front of switch
- Shoot switch with Light Arrow to invert Temple
- Enter Temple, go right
- Shoot block with Light Arrow
- Updrafts as Deku to central bridge, step on switch in tunnel
- Get small key, go back in tunnel
- Gomess early w/ jump
- Gomess for Boss Key

- Exit back to Eyegore room, fly across and enter left door
- Switch by Death Armos, hookshot chest on the ceiling
- Unlock door, kill Eyegore w/ bombs
- Giant's Mask
- Hookshot switch in next room, then hookshot across the room to boss door
- Twinmold with stick PCS + Giant's Mask

- collect at least 60 rupees in termina field (optimal 90)

- climb (deku gainer) clock tower before the cutscene starts

2. Cycle

(Clock Town)

- learn song of healing
- leave clock tower
- open rupee chest in east clock town
- go to the bomb shop in west clock town
- buy bomb bag and 1 set of chus
- equip bombs and chus

(equipped: bombs, chus and ocarina)

- leave bomb shop and get ISG from the sign
- hidden owl hover
- activate the owl and ocarina dive (play song of double time)
- withdraw rupees from banker
- buy 20 chus and exit clock town from west clock town

(Swamp Route)

- HESS or Superslide to the gossip stone in the south
- use timestop to skip the horror kid cutscene
- superslide to southern swamp
- equip deku mask over chus
- use deku mask

(equipped: deku mask, ocarina, bombs)

- go to woods of mystery and get the nut drop from the deku baba
- super slide into woods of mystery

(Day 1 Woods of Mystery: left, right, right, middle, left, left)

- talk twice to Koume
- leave woods of mystery
- backwalk to magic hags' potion shop
- get bottle
- leave potion shop
- do big octo skip and learn song of soaring
- enter deku palace
- recoil flip to pass the deku guards
- front palace hover
- learn sonata of awakening

- set map cursor to deku palace and soar to mountain village
- superslide to goron village
- soar to great bay (no map cursor)
- push mikau to the coast
- equip bottle and nuts

(equipped: bottle, ocarina, nuts)

- mikau walking cutscene
- put bugs in the bottle and dupe over nuts
- play song of healing and watch zora mask cutscene
- equip bombs, zora mask and deku mask

- go to pirates fortress
- 2 bomb hover and megaflip to skip the goron switch
- superslide to the hookshot room
- do PF long jump
- hit the beehive and turn into zora
- backflip into the tank
- equip ocarina and duped bottle and set map cursor to goron village

- get zora egg into the duped bottle
- get hookshot
- soar to woodfall

- equip deku mask over the duped bottle

- get stick out of the pot above
- turn into deku
- play song of awakening and watch woodfall rising cutscene
- use the deku flower and enter woodfall

(Woodfall Temple)

- jump down, walk a bit to the next door - turn into human and equip hookshot over deku mask

(equipped: zora mask, ocarina, hookshot)

- hookshot the torch and enter the second room
- hookshot the torch on the right side and jumpslash up (don't hit the switch)
- walk left and enter mini boss room
- defeat dinofols
- put on zora mask
- get bow
- leave the room and go into the room with the torches
- do zora clip
- equip bombchus, bombs and bow

(equipped: bombchus, bow, bombs)

- get ISG and do downstairs woodfall boss key skip
- defeat odolwa
- learn oath to order
- exit woodfall

(Stone Tower Temple)

- equip real bottle with bugs, zora mask and ocarina
- set map cursor to stone tower
- soar to stone tower

(equipped: real bottle (bugs), zora mask, ocarina)

- get bombs, arrows and drop bugs
- open fairy pot and take the fairy into a the real bottle
- do timestop and enter stone tower temple
- equip hookshot over bottle and bombs over ocarina

(equipped: hookshot, zora mask, bombs)

- go into the right room, do the block clip and dive into the key room
- get the key
- go back into the room before that tunnel and open the door
- kill the boes and do a wierdshot
- get bombs if you need them from the nejiron
- go into the updraft room
- wierdshot to the chest
- equip deku stick over zora mask and ocarina over bombs (if you do buffered wierdshots, equip while pausing for it)

(equipped: hookshot, deku stick, ocarina)

- fight against the garo master with stick jumpslash storage
- get light arrows and play song of soaring
- equip light arrows over deku stick

(equipped: hookshot, light arrows, ocarina)

- do extended bow (or wierdshot, but extended bow is faster)
- do song of time storage and go into stone tower temple again
- equip bombs over ocarina

(equipped: hookshot, light arrows, bombs)

- go into the right room and shot the block with light arrows
- walk into an updrafter, pull a bomb and hold shield
- do a recoil flip to eyegore
- kill eyegore with bombs or light arrows
- enter the next room
- do a wierdshot to the beamos
- get new bombs, arrows and magic
- hookshot up and do the boss key skip
- defeat twinmold (with light arrows only)
- save and quit

3. Cycle

- equip ocarina, zora mask and duped bottle with zora egg

- turn into zora and go to east clock town
- do a zora gainer to the chest and open it
- go back to west clock town and enter bomb shop
- buy 10 bombs and do 2 for 1 for the bomb chus
- soar to great bay (no map cursor)
- enter marine research laboratory
- dupe eggs over light arrows
- set map cursor on the last egg equip
- jump down and learn NWBN (NWBN cutscene skip)
- soar to woodfall
- equip deku mask over duped bottle

(equipped: ocarina, zora mask, deku mask)

- fly over to the mad scrub
- use the flower to enter the fairy fountain
- turn into zora
- equip bombchus and bombs

(equipped: bombchus, zora mask, bombs)

- do fairy fountain wrong warp to snowhead
- do lullaby skip
- enter snowhead

(Snowhead Temple)

- equip deku stick and hookshot
