I recently managed to get a 50.1 exactly. In this run I got bubblegum almost immediately before even bouncing once, and kept max speed the entire time. I definitely didn't realize I had bubblegum at first, and there is about .6 seconds I could have gotten to max speed before I did. So while I do think that a sub 50 is possible, even without any new developments, it's gonna require insane luck, reaction time, and skill in the first 1 second, and then decent rocket management for the next 49, just to get a 49.9.
