Hello, I'm posting a writeup I've done containing information about a glitch which I feel may be useful for more optimized runs of this game. I haven't looked into the details or how this impacts routing as of yet, but I thought it was important enough to document here for reference.

Techniques proposed:

Jump Rope, Ledge Sliding.

Explanations:

The following post describes two potential speedrunning techniques in Arzette: The Jewel of Faramore. The observer documenting these techniques refers to them as "Jump Rope" and "Ledge Sliding".

Video examples:

Jump Rope

Ledge Sliding

Notes:

The crow backdash in Arzette is busted. I'm sure I'm not the only one to figure this out since momentum carrying is a popular speedrun glitch in many games before it. The glitch allows the user to carry backdash speed and momentum through a jump, double jump and hover. This can sequence break certain points of the game. It's not as powerful of a sequence break as the sword beam early however and does not supersede the current routes for any% or 100% as of the time of documenting.

While I've tested this technique against the current any% run in hopes of getting speed shoes early, it appears that this wouldn't be viable in that context either. However, in the context of a Tool Assisted Speedrun or heavily optimized any% run, this technique appears to be viable in saving time in a handful of contexts.

This also requires routing to prioritize the scarecrow fight after obtaining the speed shoes. This would alter candle routing slightly to a degree I am not fully aware of as of yet.

The other route which I looked at would be doing scarecrow after canyon and applying this technique to the rest of the run. There's the potential if executed perfectly to save the following amounts of estimated time if both of these techniques are executed flawlessly.

The following are speculatory theories about potential timesaving possible through the use of these glitches.

With speedshoes, do canyon first.

  • -3 seconds to obtain crow backdash

  • 5 seconds on Wind scene 1 (based on the current any% run)

  • 2-3 seconds on Wind scene 2

  • 8-11 seconds on Wind scene 3

  • 1-2 seconds on denny scene 3

  • 1-2 seconds on forest scene 1

  • 1 second in town

  • 2-3 seconds daimur scene 1

  • 2-3 seconds daimur scene 3

  • 1 second daimur scene 4

  • 1-2 seconds daimur scene 5
