Recently it was noticed that text in Chronicles+ is faster depending on the frame rate of the game. This was noticed during with the cutscene where Luta gives Adol his book of Ys because it seemed to skip over some of the downtime where text is not able to be advanced after receiving an item. Timing that cutscene with different FPS rates, it shows that at 60 FPS the scene was around 7.9 seconds, at 120 FPS it was 4.15 seconds, at 144 FPS it was 3.5 seconds, and finally at 165 FPS it was 3.2 seconds. For reference, the same cutscene on the Japanese Chronicles is about 6 seconds and a higher frame rate for this version is only faster by a couple frames.

The problem with this is that the frame rate of the game is based on your monitor's refresh rate. Rather than create an unfair hardware advantage where someone with a 240hz monitor saves a massive amount of text time over someone with a 60hz monitor just by having a better monitor and also because there are some other oddities with things like Dark Fact's behavior when the game runs above 60 FPS, it has been decided that runs must be limited to 60 FPS and the in game FPS counter must be turned as well for the Chronicles+ version. This behavior was not noticed in Ys 2 so this rule only applies to Ys 1 for now.

If you are unsure how to lower the game's frame rate, the easiest way is to lower the refresh rate of the monitor that you have set as your main display in the Windows display settings menu. As far as I know, the refresh rate setting on the in game configuration tool doesn't seem to do anything although if it does work for you and it keeps the game running at 60 FPS feel free to use it.

The way I force 60fps in Ark of Napishtim (actually 61 I think because for some reason that gave me correct behaviour) is by using DxTory, so that’s an option too.
