Note for speedrunners

This message is very important for all runners out there who run with the latest patch. With Adam being able to mess with someone's game, a run could be invalidated if it seems like something magical happened (for example, Adam could have given you 300 DOS coins to end the game without you even noticing).

It is strongly recommended that you download the mod that disables the DevTools described in the third section of this guide before speedrunning using the latest patch. (Although I would not recommend using the latest patch for speedruns)

Clearing the confusion

Yesterday, there was a lot of confusion regarding the last patch and what Adam has added to the game. Please read this carefully as I will try to explain everything that he can do and what he cannot do.

First of all: No, what he is doing is not illegal. It is not a spyware, malware, or anything like that. Yes he is getting IP addresses, but any server gets IP addresses from people that visit it. The chances that Adam ever tries to launch a denial-of-service attack (DOS) on someone's private IP address is basically 0 since it will never have any impact in the world and will just get him in trouble. If he wants to get you in trouble while you are streaming or something, he'll just trigger nasty stuff to your game like writing notes or playing music, he won't try to do anything to your IP. So, stop worrying. I played the last patch and I have no issues, and I have not used a proxy/VPN of any kind. If you are really that worried and don't want to download older patches, then download my mod that removes the Dev Tool entirely (available below). Steam does not care about such functionality in games, so it won't be possible to report it.

Second: Adam can't see what you are doing in the game unless you are streaming it. The code is simple: when you start a game (Normal or 1337 mode) the game pings Adam's server with a unique identifier. The game is then registered in his server. Then, every 3 minutes, the game will contact the server again with the same identifier to check if Adam has requested something. The only things that Adam can request are the following: UnPause, AddDosCoin(qty), RemoveDosCoin(qty), TripPower, ForceHack(god difficulty or not), ForceVisitSite, TriggerDollMaker, TriggerHitman, WriteNote. He can also request that your game contacts the server more often. (He can request that your game checks the server every 5 seconds so that his trolls are more instant). So, no he can't kill you instantly, he can't force buy the lolpy disk, etc... He can only do these 9 actions.

Third: Adam cannot remove the ability to delete old patches unless Steam changes its main core code. While you can't download old patches/manifests of the game from the Steam Console or SteamCMD, it is still possible to do with another method. Follow the corresponding guide in https://www.speedrun.com/wttg2/guides . The only way we won't be able to download old patches is if Steam decides to change their whole system of manifests which is probably never going to happen. So, stop saying that Adam removed old patches or made it impossible to get them, he has no control over the old manifests since it's how Steam can handle game updates efficiently.

How to play the latest patch without this "feature"

I have made two mods which both change how the game handles Adam's actions. One mod will remove the Dev Tool entirely, so your game won't even try to connect to Adam's server. The other mod will still connect to Adam's server, but it will prevent any action that Adam is trying to send to your game and it will show an alert to troll Adam instead.
