my bad, guess I missed the headline! But ya when it comes to routing new games, no standard has been set and anything you do will be outdated given time and new strat discoveries regardless. The core rule for submitting for new titles is to make an effort to go fast. Which basically translates to "Don't game over 25 times or get stuck for 2h on this one segment of the game". An effort to be fast should be made and you should have some understanding of what you're doing. Do not submit a blind playthrough basically.
A given rule is to beat the last place runner for the game you're running, that way you're guaranteed to make the cut, if there's such a thing. Common sense applies, don't submit a 6h run for a 5min game. But you don't need to be amazing to be a speedrunner no, most communities are just happy to have new runners taking an interest in their game.
Giving up learning this category because final boss makes me fall asleep, but here's some fast kills I came up with if anyone wants to take a crack at it.
Stage 1
Stage 5

having done a few shmups as of late, inaccurate emulation specifically for this genré when it comes to not emulating lag correctly, makes a large difference competitively for a leaderboard. That being said: I see no reason to completely shutdown emulator users from running the game, just make a sub-category and allow them to compete against each other.
I know I used Snes9x 1.53 for Aladdin personally and it seems to be overall the universally allowed emulator for the system if you check other games like Contra Alien Wars as well. Either way, I understand this game in particular could be a special case resulting in not mixing emu/console runners on one board. But I see no reason to completely neglect potential emu runners either.
Edit: For reference https://www.speedrun.com/cv64 N64 emulation in general is much worse, yet people are allowed to speedrun on it separately for this game.
Willing to be mod placeholder for https://www.speedrun.com/section_z/full_game til someone else comes along
added to guides, thank you for your contribution to the community!
There's no rush to determine this now, accurate results takes time. I still say separate the versions temporarily til someone really digs into it and can establish an exact time conversion.
Im not a tech wizz so I can't comment too much here but from what I gather with adventures behaviour, I assume more testing needs to be done to grasp the correct time conversion. @spriven Care to comment additionally?
I think the version solution itself is fine, but I also think it should still be outright separated RIGHT NOW, until we have a proper timer conversion. More research needs to be put into it frankly, but it doesnt have to stay separated forever depending on the findings. Sounds fair?
I second that notion. Separation would be the better act imo, but def a new submision option should be added for people.
You are correct, the konami collection board should NOT exist. However my point is that it does because people took issue with that version of it. Same as they do with the AC one. If we wanna avoid creating a new game board dedicated to AC, I suggest handling it better this time by still listening and respecting the community regarding the differences of the releases. Nobody says its impossible to slam the two together in the future IF we separate them now, more tests needs to be made either way.
Regardless, it is clear its faster much like the Konami Collection version was. The only question now is how the community will handle it this time around. A new game page was certainly a way to handle it last time..
@Mazzin he removed it himself in protest to the inability by the mod to hear the community. Personally I did have plans to run this, I was practicing it at one point some weeks ago. The thought that AC would be mashed in on the same board with old OG GB runners is a slap to their faces. "Run the fastest version" is something I absolutely can get behind, but at the cost of telling F U to everyone prior? AC shouldn't be banned by any means as its an official release, however I don't deem it justified to completely ignore everyone whom ran the game prior its release.
It is a small community, however 2 of the leading runners have adressed their concern and I don't believe there's any doubt to say the AC version runs faster. If someone can find a way to correctly convert it to a fair result to compete with GB, that's one thing. Right now we just aren't there yet, as such: The easier solution is to separate it and/or just just make an AC game page, we already have the Konami collection https://www.speedrun.com/konamigbv1
"No 30 Lives Code" Should be selfexplanatory: Its called any% for the vast majority of us.
"Loop 2..." Refer to https://www.speedrun.com/ghosts_n_goblins but I'd argue "2 loops would suffice. Although they also specify for NES which is interesting as that brings us to...
"Any%" What happened here? It doesnt specify in the rules that its for ColecoVision at all, clearly thats what you intend with it judged by the 1 run up there though.. But the main category should act as a sub-category and not a category on its own. https://www.speedrun.com/sm64#1_Star Notice the Subcategories under the actual categories? the N64/VC/EMU ? This game should make use of NES and I assume CV for ColeccoVision..
Those are my main gripes just looking in on this board atm. I'm studying NES shmups chronologically released for the system on my down time as a means to discover new titles. That lead me here and... ya.. There's alot to straighten out when it comes to organizing with categories and rules here.
My two cents
On the flipside, I've had to change a runner submissions initial comment because it directly adressed and disrespected another mod on the board.
30 lives codes doesnt belong in speedrunning, they exist for casuals
https://www.speedrun.com/gyruss I dunno why this one directs me here instead of the main game page? Spec given the fact that there's no such thing as IL categories for this game?
I'm just gonna go ahead and say it, its been well over 2y. Nobody but Czar went ahead making and running the 30 lives misc. He recently returned with an improved any% time that's faster than his misc time. Why is it still a thing? You don't see a much more popularized game like Contra https://www.speedrun.com/contra allowing for such a thing, I dont see a point in Life Force doing so.
My two cents
