If you watch the Boondocks and enjoy it, keep in mind that only the first three seasons are written by the creator, Aaron McGruder. As a fan of the show, I remember finding the humor of the fourth season to be more derivative than original.

"Also like to add, you been on the site for 2 years... you should be aware of the process by this point."

Simply having an account on the site doesn't necessarily ensure that a user has been active or attentive. I'd be willing to bet that a majority of users on this site don't check the forums regularly.

Just to add a different voice, I will say that speed running in an attempt to get a world record is perfectly fine and worthwhile, if that's the type of competitor you are. I am personally motivated to at least match the world records in any game that I run. There are many steps and goals between picking up a game and the possibility of achieving the record, and it will likely serve a runner well to focus on the steps in between, rather than the record--but that's not to say that any step is more important than another. Running a game with the goal of reaching the world record can be fun, as long as you recognize that it isn't a guarantee. You have to put aside your ego. You can strive for records without coveting records.

Yeah, a game that has a large or active community is a great place to start.

Good luck, and have fun!

Moderators actually do have the right to "ban" users from a leaderboard, at least if that user is submitting runs that are illegitimate in some way. While it technically isn't a ban, rejecting runs does prevent users from posting illegitimate runs.

What Auddy07 actually mentioned is banning users from the forums, as opposed to banning them entirely from the leaderboards. While I do find such a notion to be unfair, I also understand Auddy07's reasoning. Also, moderators are already able to delete any forum post that they deem inappropriate. As moderators, they do have these authorities.

There is no need to insult other users, even if you disagree with their ideas.

Ah, in that case, you'll have to do some research on your own. Or, if there are players but no discussion, then you could try contacting them or starting a new discussion. A good place to start on your own would be to watch any current runs, or search the web for TAS videos (tool-assisted speed run) or segmented runs. Sometimes people start personal projects like those, but they don't spread.

As for games to get started, many people will give you many different answers, the most common being "run what you like". An good point that I saw someone make in a different thread (I think it was emeraldaly) is that you might enjoy a game, but you might not enjoy running the game. Running the game will sometimes be a different experience.

What kind of games do you enjoy, and what type of runs are you interested in?

Welcome :D

Do you mean that there is no leaderboard when you search for the game? If so, then you can request games to be added to the site here: http://www.speedrun.com/requestgame

If you mean that there is no discussion in the game's forum, then that can't be helped. Some games and runners aren't as active as others.

Also make sure to try contacting the mod. They are very active on Twitter. Many people who make mod requests are asked to first contact the current mod. I personally contact mods with a friendly heads-up any time I post a new run

Hi, I don't yet play this game, but I follow it, and I noticed your post.

I'm replying partly because I don't understand what "platforms don't obsolete" means, in the first place. I think what you want to do is separate the platforms into different tabs, for each category.

From what I can tell, "platforms don't obsolete" means that one player could post with two different platforms, which would result in two different times being listed on the leaderboard, rather than the second run replacing the first run. That's what it means for a run to be obsoleted--to be replaced by a new time. My notifications say that you got the new world record for Chelsea Any% Warpless, but your time is still listed in 3rd place. This is because you technically have the PSVita WR, but you don't actually have the category's WR. If you separated platforms into tabs (instead of having "platforms don't obsolete" selected), then you would actually have the WR for that category, and on PSVita.

I would think that the number of differences you have listed do warrant adding tabs for the different platforms, which I think is the same conclusion you've come to. I think it's referred to as a "sub-category" when editing the board.

I'd personally keep the timing as real-time. There are situations where IGT is preferable, and I'm not entirely clear in the reasons, but RTA is usually more accurate. RTA can be adjusted on old runs, in the event of a rule change. RTA can be fully standardized, as it's known exactly when to start and stop, and it's visible on-screen for later evaluation. Another thing unique to some games is a visible IGT (during gameplay), so that would be more valid. The decision on whether to use IGT or RTA usually comes with an understanding of exactly how a game's IGT operates and what it counts toward the timer. As I said, RTA seems more accurate in more situations, at least for full-game runs or games that are longer than one short segment.

But again, I don't currently run this game, so my thoughts are based on what you've shared above, as well as a general idea of leaderboard tendencies.

Ultimate Ghosts 'N Goblins Revised, whoo!

Yeah, Aquas has done a great job of that game, so far.

If you don't know, his goal is to match this segmented run: http://speeddemosarchive.com/GokuMakaimuraKai.html

That's unreasonable for many games on this site, but it would be especially so for a game like Aerox, which currently only has two runners.

So, if a submission previously had five negative ratings and two positive, then it would have had a rating of negative three. After eliminating the negative rating system, would that run now have two positive ratings? I'm just curious if it started over, or if the current ratings reflect the previous ratings.

I have a few more suggestions:

Ape Escape http://www.speedrun.com/ae

Spanky's Quest (GB) http://www.speedrun.com/Spankys_Quest_GB

Spanky's Quest (SNES) http://www.speedrun.com/Spankys_Quest_SNES

Monkey Ball http://www.speedrun.com/monkeyball

In line with Jungle Book, there are a few Tarzan games that you could try.

@PacK

That's a somewhat inaccurate comparison, as watching ads would be a free way to support Twitch, while going turbo and using bits cost money.

I agree with your sentiment, wesen. It is very discouraging to visit the leaderboard for an interesting game, only to find that the "community" seems more interested in making fun of the game than having fun playing it.

To be fair, wallyaldo has actually run the game and has videos of previous PB's, but the format in which his most recent run is posted doesn't make that clear. It looks like a joke, and it isn't helped by the way the rest of the page is presented.

While I do find it annoying, I'm not sure that the presentation of a game is grounds for reporting players. I do think that individual "runs" could be reported, such as the second place run on Lilo and Stitch https://www.speedrun.com/run/dy43g7nz

This is one of Wally's obsolete runs:
