is there any randomness to load times? i know there is in nsmbwii and nsmbu, even so far as that the first level loads faster if you've played it once and not hard reset the game.
also why not just do time with loads/time without loads like they do for rayman legends, instead of trying to convert everything to DS time.
i don't think you can do a groundpound, i tried for like 30 mins when testing the game lol
You can't really use the in game timer since it's not accurate enough. You'd lose/gain half seconds in all the levels that adds up to real time, and things like pipes (and maybe powerups?) stop the in game timer.

If we allow skipping then skipping is going to be the optimal strategy. You might waste 20 seconds skipping 10 times per level, but the difference between a 20 second level and a 3+ minute level make it worth it. People aren't just going to use it for levels that are unfair, they will use it for any level that looks like it will take more than 30 seconds to beat (autoscrollers, difficult jumps, doors, pipes, no lakitu, etc).

The reason level skips shouldn't be allowed is because the game is just going to turn into skipping over and over until you find a level where you see the flag pole near the start.

Timing based on hiittng the axe makes sense to me since it feels like that's the end.
Most speedruns are just done on the fastest console. I mean OoT runners even imported the iQue to get faster loading times haha.
Anyway I'll get a faster time soon if you don't think I deserve my spot yet :p
If you can't accurately calculate the right frame counts you shouldn't be modifying times based on that.
Is loading every level the same amount of time? I know larger levels take longer to load in some of the nsmb games, and there are pipe loading times as well.
If you guys go this route, keep in mind that loading times may vary even within a certain console. This can be seen in nsmbu for sure where it seems to load faster on your second run after a system reset.
