Montana, USASpeedromizer 3, May 2023. Alucard Famicom. Do we have a decision on if it would be EMU or not? I have both real hardware and the collection, just was wondering which one I should be practicing with more.

I'm still debating if I want to speedrun this game...Reason being as I am unsure what kind of marathon incentives I'd push if it got accepted, not to mention the LARGE amounts of dialogue to mash through. But unlike most Visual Novel type games, it's actually got gameplay besides the dating so it would require actual skills/maybe glitches/RNG and tech so...I'm on the fence about it. Definitely would be more interested in like a full any% or routing an "All Characters Max Love Level" ending since those seem like the longer/more intriguing routes. Not been doing it speedrunnery in the dialogue portions since I've been trying to get the full casual experience with voice acting the characters/etc but it's also a pretty short game with only 7 chars and I've now finished 3 of them...
I also second the "No Boyfriends/No Men" % where it's Valeria/Rowan/Sawyer and possibly the Cat meme category as adds I'll follow to keep on the up and up I guess.
The game is incredibly more difficult since there's a lot more knowledge needed for each girl (baggage, combos of baggage, etc). But I've been enjoying it.
Should, with the updates adding more screens before you start, start timing at file select (thus adding additional seconds to new runs) or on the party naming screen (as is the first screen after that in current posted runs)?
Will go forward with the file select until told otherwise.
Edit: Probably not going to matter anyway, just improved my time and got a near 8 second improvement on the 2 year old WR
If you have questions about what runs are/aren't accepted, please post here. We don't have any problems in general with newer games (and have featured Bioshock Infinite and Luigi's Mansion 3 in previous marathons for charity) so don't be afraid to submit or ask!

In the CV discord they are still waiting for a few more tests (most don't have time to do it) to make sure that all the games are on par with current emulated runs (and are not super faster/slower). that's one reason why the Japanese Famicom from collection is not allowed for CV1, as the hearts count down faster in that version, giving a leg up to anyone running on that version (over both other emu and real hardware). There's been lots of assumptions of CV3 being faster by a few frames per stage, and same with CV4 so...it's still being investigated from what I've seen.

I found a bit of a "cheat" to cut time while working on Ghost WooHoo % this week that involves over-exerting Elder sims with WooHoo-ing them to death that will likely make more consistently fast, possibly even race-viable runs for the Black Widow category...
I'm going to make some attempts at them later this week for PB/WR chasing and after I get a rhythm down of how to integrate this quick-kill into the route, I'll try to post a guide for it.
I've also found that "Cry it Out" typically lowers the time you mourn the dead spouse by 1 hour, so a total of 48 "Cry It Out" uses (or so, since with 3x speed it's hard to know how many hours just naturally pass from a few runs) can get you back on the horse to search for the next "mark" as it were... Figured if anyone was interested in the category this would definitely help.
And yes, if you can get winter with expansions, you probably can go even faster than by selecting an elder and making them woohoo till they die of a heart attack
Yeah, I've got a sum-of-best sitting around 2 hours 25 mins, but bad RNG can really screw a no-expansions run...since even with nearly maxed Charm I failed to seduce a few sims near the end and spent WAAAY longer getting them into bed than it should have taken... I used a similar build for the traits (romantic aspiration, romantic, cheerful and creative instead of outgoing, since being inspired is a mood booster to keep from being too sad to woohoo)
The biggest problem is finding new sims to interact with, later in the run...and I know I waited a few days due to bad luck finding new sims, for teens to age up to young adults. Definitely an interesting/fun thing to route and discover...but definitely very RNG heavy due to the number of sims you need being so high.
I'm a bit late to this game, so to speak, but after they gave it away earlier this year (and from some referral from Meliria) I'm doing some runs. I see that there's a category with no submission (WooHoo) and was wondering if anyone has tried routing it yet?
I did some research on the achievement it's tied to, and there was some bugs to it early on that may or may not have been fixed...the hardest part, apparently, is that it may be time-sensitive and if you age above Young Adult may not trigger...has anyone got any info on this?
If it's a reasonable time run (sub 3 hours) it may be an interesting addition to smaller marathons to highlight the game/series runs.
Unfortunately there's not enough outright changes to necessitate what happened with the Mario/Luigi U games being revamped for Switch (adding characters, etc) to warrant Anniversary to have it's own leaderboard. The actual changes will, considering most of these games have very minimal players on speedrunning (and likely won't gain a ton of new runners) will probably only be 10-20 seconds at most in the end, considering that the top tier runners are currently very near perfect on many of the games included, so that extra amount of time won't likely be saved by anyone anytime soon (unless everyone who has ever run the games decides to run on the new hardware). I see both sides of the argument and honestly don't know if there's going to be much of any actual impact until we start seeing a ton of new runs in old games with the anniversary collection.
I'm not entirely for or against the separation of emu runs, but the fact that you can filter them out is very helpful to see where you compare vs other people using the hardware. Sadly, it is difficult to get real hardware in some places (read as outside the US and Japan). It's fairly crummy how some games were never released in some regions, or were released in limited quantities making it harder to find. I still am hoping I can one day send a cart/console for PAL regions to my friend Kutsu (also on the boards) since he has no real options to get them himself due to availability/cost barriers. This problem will also slowly become more and more prevalent as hardware (both carts and consoles) break down over time. But i understand the arguments for/against using a separation between NES and EMU runs
