Oh, and I forgot to ask something extremely important: Do you think sub 2:30 is possible??? I'm not sure how much going under the pole thing saves but with that + even better execution, I think it may be on the horizon.
Just finished watching the new WR. Actual insanity. I didn't even think that factory strat was possible and it's pretty clear to me that the strat in the 2nd last room saves a lot more time than I expected. There are only 4 or 5 places in the entire run where I can even spot mistakes, and they probably lose less than .1 each. Without the new strat (which is fucking ridiculous by the way, no idea how you got that but now we know it's possible lol) I think 2:32.5 might actually be maxed. I'll have to get back on the grind but I think this time you may have actually killed the category for good, lol
I believe the GBA player runs at a slightly different FPS, but apart from that anything with a faster FPS I would assume would be cheating.
Good idea, I actually saw this thread a week ago but accidentally closed the tab and forgot to add the category :/ will do that soon!
I've been working a lot on 100% lately, but I'm not very consistent yet. I've made a few 4:30s but am having trouble with the consistency to get anything below that. And yeah it's awesome that so many new people are playing the game!
I've seen hundreds of youtubers tell people to join their discords. There's no way it's that. Possible false reporting? Is there someone who tends to dislike a lot of your videos?
This wouldn't help manipulate RNG at all. If anything you're probably just improving cause TTs are the best way to improve your skill at the game.
I don't think any speedrun legal emulator would have any problem streaming 480p on any modern PC/
Damn, amazing time! Looking forward to more crazy any% runs, lol. I really do think you should try to use the faster fire bar cycle, it's hard but you can definitely make it pretty consistent with practice. After around half an hour I managed to get probably 3/4 consistency (starting from the spawn point in the previous room), it's a lot worse in runs but I'm getting there. With a really good run + that cycle I wouldn't be surprised to see a 2:34 soon.
Also, while on the topic of insane runs:
Got this yesterday, was almost perfect the entire time, and I didn't do fast fire bar cycle. That strat probably cuts over a second so I think 34 or even 33 is feasible. I've had several runs with the fast fire bar cycle but they all died in crows.
I also tied your 233 but the video quality was kinda bad and the run kinda sucked lol, should get a way better run within a few weeks though.
Damn, that's crazy. I always found it a lot harder to go OOB when doing small jumps though, are you having success with it? (apart from that crazy run ofc lol)
Yeah it took a couple weeks of on and off effort. Nowhere near as hard as I expected actually, there are only about 3 rooms that really gave me trouble (the spinning fire bars room where you go down then up, the room after that, and the very last room). The rest of the rooms have surprisingly easy setups and this game's audio cues can give you a lot more info than you'd expect, which is why I think if I get good at those 3 rooms sub 5 may actually be viable.
Also on the original topic on this thread: I just got this.
This is the only time I've ever done this (got OOOB while actually timing it).
Damn, look forward to seeing your new record. Might have to actually attempt the strat I used in my blindfolded run now! I haven't tried TASing that shortcut yet, since I haven't been able to get hourglass working. Which rooms have you tried dropping down into? Some of them don't lead to any rooms or to another overworld room, but I've dropped into the tunnel before jungle before.
In my experience poltergust isn't that great to use as a beginner. Or at least I never found it beneficial when I tried it. You're better off using egg and db for most tracks and bls for tracks like f8c and yf.
It really depends on the track, your skill level and what you're trying to accomplish tbh, db is good for tight turns, offroad and easy prb, but is slow overall, egg is a bit faster but slightly worse offroad and takes turns a bit wider, also easy to prb with though, BLS is really fast but hard to use well (incredibly hard to prb, don't even bother until you git gud), and polt is somewhere in between egg and BLS. Some tracks use different karts as well, particularly for flaps, but those 4 are the big ones.
Oh also new any% no OOB strat at 17:40, it's really hard, especially if you have to do it deathless, but I think it's slightly faster. Probably not worth doing till like 2:34 lol
