Option 1 is what I would go with since it just seems like if someone wants to save time, they should use the fastest version. If there aren’t any differences aside from text and a few things like the codes, it seems like that’s the best option. Using JP for the fastest time is hardly a new concept to runs, so I see no issue with that.

If the game is hard or expensive to import then that can kinda change things. In that case, you could create a variable to divide the two languages (or three if you have a lot of EU runs) to keep them a bit more isolated. But that’s really up to your discretion about whether you want to take that approach to the LBs.

Removing the loads could be reasonable as long as the game isn’t too long because then that would be a huge amount of work every run for a runner or mod to do. This would also be a lot of work for a large game with a lot of runs being submitted.

An option would be disabling the checkpoints like suggested, but add a variable to indicate a segmented run where the checkpoints are still enabled and a runner can retry the level. That way you can use the in-game timer and runners can’t retry per checkpoint.

If the hardest difficulty is too hard for some runners, then they can run the segmented category (although that one will probably be hard to be competitive in because those runs will probably get much more optimized much quicker because of the ability to build a very good run through retries).

No two PCs are made equally (unless you literally buy the same parts maybe), there’s a lot of components to a computer that can change how it behaves and how fast it is.

You don’t. You upload a video to a site that can host it (most people use YouTube or Twitch/Mixer if their run was live streamed) and you simply add the URL to the video field on the submission form you’re filling out when submitting a run.

You need to contact the mods of the game and follow their procedures for requesting new categories.

AntarcticaTimmiluvs5 years ago
  1. Ask the mods of the game if you have concerns about whether something would be allowed.
  2. Ask the mods/community of the game for help if you're having difficulty setting up any of their resources.
  3. Any timer should work, even something like Livesplit is very easy to setup and have it count upwards. You can find all sorts of timers on http://www.speedrun.com/resources

You’re the one playing the game, why are you asking us what is faster? Time both methods a handful of times, take the average, and which ever method has the lower average is faster.

But if one method does less to achieve the same result, my guess is that that one is faster than drawing out the process of getting an “out”.

Unless the community and the rules for the game say otherwise, you can use whatever controller is comfortable for you. The only generally accepted rule is that the controller can’t do anything the standard way of playing cannot.

As an example, a standard, un-modified SNES controller can’t press two opposite directional buttons (up and down) at the same time, so anyone who uses a different controller can’t do anything with the controller that simulates that (meaning you can’t map up and down to say L and R on a PS4 controller to press them at the same time).

Double check with the mods of the game if you’re unsure about anything related to the game’s rules in regards to that.

I mean if nobody in the game’s community has a problem with it then yeah, I’d say it’s okay.

Make sure you’ve actually done a run before trying to request anything.

A third option is PS4 remote play which will use your internet connection to allow the game to be played on your PC so you can use something like OBS to stream or record. This method might be prone to some delay or lag depending on your internet speeds (it used to have problems with random crashes too).

It should also be noted that it can be a good practice to do for longer runs as well just in case the timer drifts during the course of a run. I know on the past I had a case where the timer was off by a handful of seconds after a long run because it lagged a bit during the course of the run. Retiming it can be a good way to just do a quick validation that there was no drift or anything with the timer running for a long time.

In general it’s not a necessity for most games, but it’s just more of a good practice type thing to do, especially for heavily competitive boards.

A spliced run will be one single video file created from editing together multiple video files. Those video files are probably recorded with something other than OBS. It will always be a continuous video with no cuts or missing parts or obvious edits. If it had any of those, it would be easy to detect a splice by just observing the video oddities of it.

It means that to your plugin, the video will look continuous with no skipped frames or frames that go out of order. I could still be misunderstanding exactly how the plugin would work, but it seems like it would only work if you somehow managed to do it on each individual segment prior to the spliced final product. Then you’d be able to see that time stamps don’t line up.

Unless what you’re saying is that the plugin would run on each of the separate video files assuming the runner would use OBS to record each part of the splice. In that case I can see how it would work.

That’s why I said it’s preference. You see no aesthetic value whereas I see a lot of aesthetic value by having every time in that column being the same length visually.

The only benefit I could see to displaying the zeros would be aesthetic reasons of every time being the same length. But that’s more of a preference than an issue if any kind.

How would this work at all? If someone is splicing a run, they’re not gonna do it live on stream. They’ll do it offline then play back a singular video file with everything in the proper order. I struggle to see how your plugin would manage to figure out that a run is spliced from just a raw video feed. It also wouldn’t work if the run in question was never streamed and was just uploaded somewhere.
