You’ll need something to split the signal. You can use 3 Y splitters - 1 input 2 outputs - or you can use a powered splitter which will do the same thing but will use its own power source to make sure the signal is split without degrading the quality.

This guide has links to all of the equipment you’ll need as well as the steps to set everything up if need it.

That’s probably a question best asked to try CTR runners as they probably have more knowledge on it. My experience with swap magic is strictly NTSC-U -> NTSC-J so I don’t know for sure how PAL consoles behave with NTSC games although I’d imagine that the console is what is causing the 50Hz rather than an issue with the game. But that’s only a guess.

And my little run through file I just did was at just under 6 hours according to the game save. And that’s with testing, long pauses, and retrying/practicing events. So given all of that, it was at least an hour of me screwing around so that’s why I put my estimate at that.

Okay yeah, I did a run through and I have zero clue why the original route did the first 6 Grand Prixs lol. I just blew through the game unlocking Rank 10 with every Crash event, Burning Laps, Road Rages and some Races/Eliminators. Once in Rank 10 I unlocked GP 10 and completed it.

If GP 10 is the benchmark for Any%, then that’s the route for it. I’ll spend a few days now making a concrete route, but based on my estimates, Any% should easily be sub 5 now (if not easily sub 4:30 or less). I’ll post up a Guide when I finish the route.

RAM has nothing to do with it. If your bitrate suddenly plummets the only things I can think of as immediate causes would be an Internet blip (like temporarily losing service, even if it’s a few seconds) or a high usage on your CPU. Your bitrate can also drop if twitch hiccups on their end. If the ingest server you were streaming to had a minor blip, it would cause issues for your stream.

If it happens a lot, check your CPU usage to make sure it’s not spiking, and maybe change what twitch server you’re streaming to and see if those resolve it.

Yeah I know that much, I was just wondering why the first 6 GPs (unless I’m misunderstanding the year old route) matter but 7-9 don’t based on what you’ve said. Like why not just unlock Rank 10 through just Crash events and fast Race events (Burning Laps, Road Rages, etc), grab a decent car or 2 and unlock GP 10 and complete it for Any% without doing any of the other GPs.

That’s what I meant by my question, since if only GP 10 matters for the category, as long as there isn’t some weird thing preventing you from getting to Rank 10 and GP 10, there shouldn’t be any reason to do the other GPs in Any%.

For what it’s worth I’m reworking my route and testing it, but so far I’ve unlocked 8 Ranks perfectly fine so unless something odd happens, I can’t see any reason to do any GP that’s not GP 10 in Any%.

But yeah, you’re not so much holding the dpad for 1 frame, you’re tapping it quickly so that it gives the 1 frame turn. It’s not as hard as it may seem, with a little practice it becomes very muscle memory as you learn the motion and pressure to apply to the dpad.

2. Interesting, I actually never knew that. I’ll have to rework my route then and do another test run. How exactly does it work though? You need to complete GPs 1-6 in order to unlock the next in line, but then after that you only need to have Rank 10 unlocked to get GP 10 unlocked? I’m surprised no site mentioned this when I was researching the exact requirements for unlocking GPs ha.

Frame drops won’t occur as a result of capturing, frame drops occur when your internet isn’t good when streaming.

If you want to both capture your gameplay as well as play off your TV, yes, you’ll need to split the signal. If you play off your computer monitor or use low quality splitters you might notice minor input lag. I use a powered splitter, which is just one that plugs into an outlet, to split everything 1-to-1. After that it’s just one set of cables to the TV and one to the capture card (the console cables go to the splitter).

1. The rules for NG+ simply state to "Complete all GPs". Does "Complete" mean to get a Gold/medal in every GP or just to finish them regardless of your medal/final position?

2. The rules for Any% say to "Complete Grand Prix 10". I was comparing the year old route posted in the forums (the Livesplit file posted by derek) to my own route I created and noticed that the route derek posted specifically completed the first 6 GPs, then seems to skip around doing random events until GP 10 with no mention of doing GP 7-9. Does this mean that Any% ONLY has to complete GP 10 and can skip every other GP or do you need a medal in every GP?

3. Can we get sub categories for PS2/XBox360? The load times alone are quite faster on XBox360 (about half the length of loading on PS2 from what Ive compared from a couple 360 runs) which makes it nearly impossible for PS2 to compete with it at a high level of play. Also, the 360 version has some differences that potentially make it faster. This includes faster Crash events since it doesn't have the boost meter at the start. Also, I've seen a few YouTube videos that show some Crash events on 360 requiring less money for Gold than PS2 (an example was the Tram-a-tised Crash Event. Ive seen multiple videos showing 360 has Gold at $8mil while PS2 has it at $8.5mil. I don't own a 360 to confirm this, but it was in multiple videos so idk).

This is quite an interesting idea. If you're looking for simple games with minimal inputs and not a lot of "noise", I'd look at Atari games. Most are very straightforward given their age, but idk how deep exploits will run (aside from your AI learning the correct frames to do ideal movements on).

As for games that are both simple and exploitable, that one is hard to concretely answer. A lot of NES games are relatively simple in terms of inputs (as well as Gameboy like you mentioned) and a number of these games have relatively short categories. However, the more exploits you look for, the more complex those exploits become (some can involve things like counting on screen sprites or waiting for sound cues) and I'm not sure if that's the kind of exploits you're looking for. Especially since those exploits can be related to the on screen stuff you're trying to stay away from.

If you elaborate more on the kind of exploits you're looking to for in games (and how complex you want or don't want them to be), it might be easier to suggest more specific games.

Any frame drops will show up as skips/lag on your stream. The more frames you drop, the more skips/lag your stream will have.

Unfortunately, with your upload speed, it'll be hard to get a consistently smooth stream regardless of your bitrate. If you set your bitrate extremely low, it might not drop frames but it'll be very pixelated and won't be very watchable. Without a better upload speed, your stream will be prone to skips and lag intermittently, so if a 400 bitrate was like 90% smooth over the course of your stream, I'd say stick with that. A few hiccups in quality won't be too awful, especially since there isn't much you can do to completely fix it (aside from an Internet upgrade which isn't always an option).

If the rules don’t state that photo proof is allowed, you can always ask in the game forums or ask the mods to make sure it’s okay before submitting.

If you’re pointing a camera of some kind at it, as long as you can connect the camera to your computer, just add it as a webcam to OBS and it’ll show up.

Idk anything about GoPros, but as long as you can use one like a traditional webcam it’ll be fine to connect to OBS as a video source.

Well OP said they have the Wii U VC version, so Gecko on a Wii won't help anything.

Yes, ILs can be submitted if they came from full game runs as long as they share the same rules. Often times ILs can have different rules/timings than full game runs (such as being able to use high level equipment or abilities) so I would double check that they follow the same rules before submitting parts of full runs to IL boards.
