Hey guys, since the formatting in this forum is a joke, the list is now being managed within our Wave Race Community Discord.

Important Update:

Braden Hall has served the 2 year ban put in place and has appealed to the mods to be able to return. The moderators have discussed the ban appeal and have come to a decision.

We as a group accept their appeal to return to playing Wave Race games and submitting to the leaderboard, and this will be effective immediately. With this said, there will also be restrictions. These will be as follows:

1. Attempts that are submitted by Braden must be live streamed.
2. Submissions by Braden must have BOTH a video of the full livestream, as well as the normal shorter submission video that only includes the run. Both should be present in future submissions.
3. There must be a hand camera in their runs. The frames per second of the hand camera should match or exceed the frames per second of the game being submitted. This must be shown clearly in proof submissions.
4. ONE more instance of foul play by this player, whether it is the same method or any other method used previously will be punished by a permanent ban.

The restrictions are essential in order to fully rebuild trust. These were voted for overwhelmingly by the moderator team, many of whom are the same people who issued the ban 2 years ago. We can even give helpful tips to get started so that they can play. We did not discuss an end date for these restrictions, but may be able to discuss removing them years down the road, assuming things go well. This does also mean they are eligible to play in the Wave Race Olympics for WR64, if they are able to follow the restrictions.

Important announcement from the Wave Race 64 Moderators to the Wave Race community:

Hello everyone, we hope that you and your families are all safe and healthy during this difficult time.

Unfortunately we come to announce today that we are removing the player Braden Hall from the leaderboards due to dishonest conduct directly effecting many players on the leaderboard.

It came to the groups attention that some of Braden's championship (RTA) runs were appearing faster than they should have. Upon closer inspection, many of the videos that were submitted to the leaderboard were spliced to remove time where the screen would be fully black, reducing the amount of time between levels. This has been confirmed by all of the current mods by zooming in to the sections using the audio spectograph. Looking at the spectograph shows clear cuts in the original videos. This is what is known as "splicing" in the speedrunning community, and considered cheating. In the past, players would use this method to produce the best segments possible, however in this form was used simply to remove time from an otherwise normal looking run.

The mods as a group spoke directly with Braden over the last couple of days. They admitted wrong doing right away, not trying to hide this any further. We appreciate their honesty and coming forward, however this is something the community cannot tolerate on any level. Not toward the lower level, and not toward the higher level of the competition, or anywhere in between.

The mods have voted and decided for an appropriate ban for this offence. The duration of Braden's ban shall be minimum 2 years from today (July 9, 2020), with a successful appeal to the moderators of the community, at that time (after July 9, 2022)

Meanwhile, all of Braden's runs (both Real Time Attack and Individual Level, and for ALL WAVE RACE GAMES) will be removed from the leaderboards. If they are to return, they will start from a clean slate, after the ban date and successful appeal have both occurred.

We apologize for any inconvenience this situation has caused, and will continue to be diligent to assure that everyone is playing with a level playing field.

Bump: Just Updated for July 2017

The new rules will be in effect immediately and will be implemented into the rules on speedrun.com. At the bottom of the post I will put some information to help you get started with a basic recording setup for acceptable top 5 submission. Also, since this is a new concept and previously only world record submissions required video proof, let me know if this needs any major amendments.

Top 5 times will require video evidence, from this point further. There is also a grandfather rule, times without recordings before today will permanently count and will not be removed due to lack of video proof. That being said, from January 23, 2017, top 5 times will require video evidence of reasonable quality, before being verified by a Moderator. Stream video is acceptable as long as it has no major loss of frames. This way, it will be easy to spot times that are not legitimate. Game sound is preferred, but a good quality video without sound can be accepted if it is deemed legitimate by the verifying moderator.

Disclosure: We will be lenient on this rule in Reverse and Single lap for the first month or two due to lack of submission volume, but no exceptions for 3 Lap (Any top 5 time in 3 Lap should be considered a major accomplishment at this point).

Moderator Rule: With the new video rule comes some added responsibility to our moderators. Last year, we added a rule to never verify ones own submission. This year, we also add a rule to never verify a top 5 submission without a video, or with a video that is questionable. The purpose of this is to keep the community honest, and to share our accomplishments with the rest of the community. It is important for players to be able to see how the best times were accomplished, in order to help themselves grow as players.

I really want to encourage all of our players to play and to record. Streaming, even. Streaming is getting easier as time goes on, and having a competitive community with many participating in streaming is good for the whole community. However, as we become more competitive, the ability to prove our accomplishments is going to be important. Also, the other players deserve to be able to see these times.

Information on getting a streaming setup(Written by GhillieGuide):

You will need at the very least a usb capture card that records composite video in order to submit times on this leaderboards. If you are concerned with video quality a cheap way to drastically increase your quality is to upgrade to an svideo recording(both recommended capture cards support svideo and offer comparable results in svideo). The GV-USB2 is highly recommended as it is both cheaper and produces a better image than the Dazzle(especially in composite). Microphones can be a great way to discuss things with people in your chat if you stream; if you don't they are great way for people to enjoy your gameplay footage more in addition to providing audio evidence of your button mashing(if you want).

Hardware

Capture Cards: GV-USB2 and Dazzle 100 & 101 are recommended for their cost, value and availability

Microphones: Blue Snowball Blue Yeti Those are the most popular choices for their cost/performance ratio. There are lots of other audio options worth investigating but for straight cost, ease of use and performance these offer a good deal.

Software

The bare minimum needed in order to record video for submissions in terms of software is just a recording software. OBS is easy to use and offers local recording and livestreaming. If you want to display a timer in your layout live split is recommended for it's ease of use, customization, and ability to import splits from the resources tab credit:Stonecoldhard12. Research into and knowledge around editing and encoding video footage will make the process drastically easier and provide you with a better end result.
