Nice to see this topic being discussed. I love running Burnout 3 but the fact that disc and emu runs are in the same leaderboard takes out a bit of the fun.

I'd be absolutely down for a leaderboard split or, even better, a loadless comparison.

If a leaderboard split has to be made then I'd just ban HDD altogether as it's way too niche and even faster than emu (saves roughly one second per load).

Loadless would basically solve this issue and make a fairer competition for everyone: disc, emu & HDD :)

Aight thanks for your answer :)

Hello there,

Since PS2 emu seems to be allowed, is it also fine if running the game on a PS2 console equipped with a hard drive?

Lorraine, FranceRipperRooTMUF3 years ago

Oh... I'm sorry to hear that, hope you're doing better now.

Just wanted to bump this thread and get some news, however as you said we're clearly lacking feedback to make any change at the moment. I'll keep running the game with the current rules for now :)

Though I still think subcategories could add a bit more clarity to the main page and make things easier for future categories. What do you think?

Lorraine, FranceRipperRooTMUF3 years ago

Hi, is there any news about the potential rule change/subcategories?

Lorraine, FranceRipperRooTMUF3 years ago

Okay this is what I was thinking, I just wanted to make sure that a genuine PS1 console is required for this category.

That said I will probably do PS2 runs as well, just to see how fast I could go with reduced loading times :)

Thank you for your answer!

Hi,

I own the PlayStation (PAL) version of the game as well as a PSone and a PlayStation 2, and I would like to compete for the PS1 category.

Do I absolutely have to record the footage from my PSone to be eligible, or is it fine to run the game on my PS2?

Thanks :)

Hi there,

@PDplum: I don't know if you solved your YouTube issue, but for future uploads I recommend using HandBrake which can re-encode your recordings to a more friendly format for YouTube.

Now regarding the track order, I'm divided between A and B: A because it's easier to compare splits between each other, and B for the reason you mentioned plus the fact that it would enable some nice strats when it comes to pit stopping and car damage management. Not convinced about C and D though.

By the way I'm fine with separating runs based on difficulty, but wouldn't it be better to make one main category named "Championship" and then separate easy, normal and hard runs into subcategories? I think it would make things clearer, especially if we were to create new categories in the future :)

Oh yes indeed, I had omitted that the demo could load Beltane and therefore start the timer :o I will update the script as soon as I find a way to detect that the game is running in demo mode.

Awesome 👍️

Thank you for reviewing my submitted runs. Yep I will consider doing some IL runs, even though my main focus atm is the WR in hard mode :P

Okay so I did some tests with a fresh install of LiveSplit and different versions of POD including the GOG one, and I found something interesting: LiveSplit simply cannot detect POD if the latter is launched with admin rights.

I figured this out while playing the standard GOG game (English, 2.0.0.19), which for some reason has to be run as an administrator while the French GOG version (2.1.0.24) doesn't.

The solution is to also run LiveSplit as administrator: just right-click on LiveSplit.exe and select "Run as administrator". Now it should be able to read POD's data :)

Other than that, every version I tested so far worked perfectly fine with LiveSplit, no matter which patches and wrappers are applied.

Thank you guys for your feedback! I'll see what I can do to fix the issues but so far it seems that both GOG and non-GOG executables are detected by LiveSplit, which is a good sign :)

@Splaysh: could you tell me which patches you've applied to the game? I'll install POD on another machine with nGlide and a few patches to know exactly what's preventing LiveSplit to do its thing.

@PDplum: looks like LiveSplit is skipping splits instead of splitting as it should. Perhaps it's not configured properly? I'll start from a fresh setup and test all sorts of parameters to see if I missed something.

Lorraine, FranceRipperRooTMUF3 years ago

Sure, here's all you have to do:

  • Right-click on the LiveSplit window and select "Edit Layout"
  • Click on the "+" button, go to "Control" and add a "Scriptable Auto Splitter"
  • Click on "Layout Settings" and go to the "Scriptable Auto Splitter" tab
  • Click on "Browse..." and select the script you've just downloaded (planetofdeath.asl)
  • All boxes should be checked on by default, if not check them on
  • Click "OK", you're done!

Now LiveSplit should be able to read the game's data from the RAM and make actions (start, split and reset) depending on what's written in the script :)

As for making LiveSplit appear on top of the game, sorry but I can't really help you on that since I always had my splits showing on my second monitor.

Hi there,

I was fed up with splitting manually and I didn't find any Auto Splitter solution available for POD.

So I wrote myself a (very) basic Auto Splitter script for LiveSplit which:

  • starts the timer when the announcer says "GO!" in the first track (Beltane),
  • splits each time the player crosses the finish line,
  • resets the timer if you go back to Beltane.

If you're interested, here's a link to download the script: https://gist.github.com/RipperRooTMUF/9d386e92fdfd13a8361aec21bee510c6

I only used this script a couple of times so it may not be 100% bug-free.

Also I play on an original (non-GOG patched) ISO with dgVoodoo 2.7 Glide wrapper, so I don't even know if this works with the GOG version of the game.

That's why any feedback & suggestion would be appreciated :)

I see that we're in the same boat... though I only submitted my run yesterday so I didn't expect it to be reviewed that early anyway.

Hope you'll get an answer soon!
