Skyward Sword for the Wii has the exact same "glitch" as this. You can start a new file, load memory from an already created file into the new one and beat the game by doing that in around 6 minutes (an otherwise 5 hour long game).
No one in the SS community takes this category competitively though. For me, a true speedrun beats the game starting without any already created progress and beats it only by using story progress achieved during an active timer.
Any% ESW fits in as a Misc category, because it bends the rules. For me this is the only obvious path a run like this could take. Also, I don't like it how you are using "you don't even run this game" as an argument. The same with me, but I still feel like I can join the discussion. Although, I would accept it if people don't weigh my argument as heavily.
I would really like to know if this new found can shorten the Any% category without actually using an -already created- setup file. Let's say you could run to a certain spot in the game, leave the file, start a new file, and then use the old one to use this glitch, and time the whole actual process. Would that save time in a full run or would it not? I have a really hard time seeing something that uses already created data to warp and overwrite in game memory as a "true" speedrun, but apparently there are a lot of people that disagree.
As of right now, the only way to have submissions with several people is to create new categories for them. This is a topic that could be discussed with the administration of SR.com but currently I would say you should give the other runner credits in the runner notes.
Iirc it works with Mario as well but I think it is easier with Luigi (don't quote me on this though, I don't quite remember so not a guarantee by any means).
Would be amazing to finally get down to play some poker at ESA. Small cash-in would be nice but I'd be up for playing just for the heck of it as well. I know Planks has a poker set (if I am not mistaking) so unless it is a trouble for him and people would be down for it, maybe we should set up a poker night?
You simply just press the final stage with your motion controls instead of moving there with the control stick. Also, if you want to learn this game with fast and great help of others, join the Discord (link under "resources").
Well, 100% would indeed include getting all the medals from a fresh file. Although I don't know how we would end it. Maybe Zallard1 would like to bring us his opinion on this?
Any% for PO Wii is already a thing. You can find "Full-game Leaderboard" in the menu to the left. Basically you beat all fights and lose three times at the end.
100% would probably include all the medals, as well as becoming the champion.
I would like to open up a discussion for this game. Any% from a new game file seems, for me, like the most interesting category at the moment (and honestly I don't know if there are any others), but as I am very new to the game and haven't even completed the entire game so far, I am far from sure how to handle this game when it comes to speedruns. I would therefore prefer an open discussion about it. Brainstorm, write down what you know and let us make this game the best bad speedrun there is!
Fatzke: I have to say, I stand very positive to the setup games being a solution for possible delays in the schedule. Great initiative, good job!
Your decisions has probably already been set but I just felt like writing here. I did a few offline runs to confirm I could still run the game (smiling face) and I got sub 33 on all my three runs today (with one even being 32:27) and nothing brutal besides stupid RNG boss fights happened. So I am still fit to run.
OoT accepts iQue runs on its main LB.
I love the idea of having a speedrun for most N64 games (although I'd love to see a list with all of them done). Although speedrunning is a lot about competition, and without it the games won't become optimized. My Taz Express speedrun is a good example of that. I have tried to get competition in to it (hey guys come on speedrun Taz Express!) but it is hard to get others interested. I think most people gets turned off by not having competition, unless you only want a free WR.
No S&Q is only a good run if it makes for other routes and glitches being used. Take Twilight Princess for example. If you are not allowed to save and quit you have to beat the game in a completely different route due to how the game would otherwise lock you in different places.
Oh my God! We need to get to the bottom of this! I would like to know why Star Fox Command was cut?? I mean, I guess it is because it is a bad game, with luck everywhere and it honestly isn't that interesting but... Oh wait nvm I understand completely why that game was cut. :)
Although Taz Express I would like to give a shot sometime, but I will try again next year!
About Star Fox 64, you know I am good at the game and as I wrote I will be able to bring high class commentary this year due to my research. Although you won't see the time get improved until the marathon because a) my capture card is broken and b) the time is actually quite good as it is.
Any Star Fox game and Breath of the Wild.
Any form of clipping should be considered a glitch and therefore be banned by the description.
