There is not a specific screen recorder that you have to use. Just make sure that whatever you decide to use captures the whole gameplay area and doesn’t block anything.
Also, if you haven’t tried OBS yet, I would recommend trying that first. It’s the most popular among speedrunners, and for good reason.
I noticed that this category isn’t closed. The only shop item I could think of that you can use for this level is wall-nut regeneration, but slot machine also uses that and that shopless category is closed. Is there something I’m missing?

I don’t think you can really generalize about this. You should take whatever proposal you’re thinking of to the community for that specific game.
