I just made a Discord, feel free to join!
These are just my suggestions on what should be fixed and whatnot. Feel free to give me let me know what you think!
If you need any explanations, maybe on my reasoning for said change, just ask! ───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── [big]New Categories[/big]
Add Co-op • 2 player • 3 player • 4 player
Add Difficulties • Casual • Normal • Nightmare ───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── [big]Rules[/big] Keep in mind that things should be written in bold, as I show below. I also include whether it's specific rules for Any% or Level Leaderboard so you don't get confused.
General • Beat the game by playing through 1.2: Awakening all the way through to 4.7: Vendetta. (The reason for not starting on 1.1: Tarn (Tutorial) is because you can skip it right away, thus it’s not required to play through) (Any% Specific) • It is recommended, but not required, to start the Level from the Checkpoint Selection screen. (Level Leaderboard Specific) • Must be played with 2 players (Co-op Specific) • Must be played with 3 players (Co-op Specific) • Must be played with 4 players (Co-op Specific) • Must include videos of the point of view of all individual runners (Co-op Specific)
Timing • Time Starts: After the second cutscene is skipped (First frame that it is no longer visible) (Any% Specific) • Time Ends: When the cutscene shows after killing the Final Boss (First frame that you see the cutscene starting) (Any% Specific)
• Time Starts: After the cutscene has finished playing (First frame that it is no longer visible) (Level Leaderboard Specific) • Time Ends: When the “Reward Screen” pops up (First frame that it is visible) (Level Leaderboard Specific) • ONLY use milliseconds as a tiebreaker.
Difficulty (For Subcategories) • Must be played on Casual • Must be played on Normal • Must be played on Nightmare
Platform • Must be played on PC or Mac (Console Specific) • Must be played on XBOX 360 or PS3 (PC Specific) ───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── [big]General Fixes[/big]
Retiming runs according to new rules • Nordanix (Any%): 1:54:53 → 1:54:44 • Slevanas (Any%): 2:18:52 → 2:18:27 • Slevanas (Level 1): 20:40 → 20:15
Main Category: Console → PC • PC is generally the most common platform. Also, it is currently the fastest by a large margin so it makes sense to have it as the main category for the leaderboard.
Ban: Emulator • No one will use it anyway. XBOX 360 and PS3 emulators are not reliable anyway, so might as well ban it.
Add: Milliseconds • It will only be used for tiebreakers.
Add: Discord • I can make it, unless you want to.
Fix Platform Submission • MS-DOS → PC MS-DOS is like the operative system on the 1980-1990’s. This game is on PC, so just use PC. • iOS → Mac iOS is the operative system for iPhones, iPad and iPod Touch. Mac uses macOS, which later got re-named to OS X. Just use Mac.
Add: Rank Icons & Favicon • https://imgur.com/a/ji2p621
Add: Developer, Publishers, Engine, Genre • Developer: Tragnarion Studios • Publishers: UFO Interactive Games, Bitbox • Engine: Unreal Engine 3 • Genre: Action, Third-person Shooter, Third Person Shooter, TFS, Co-op
Add Resources: Save File with XP Rank 10 • I need to be a Moderator to be able to add resources.
Fix Theme • It's quite hard to read the text when seeing the comments on runs. It's some sort of grey and it blends in with the background, making it hard to read. Just make it pure white or something for easy reading.
Hey! So I just got into this game and felt the page for this game could use some love! These are just my ideas, feel free to let me know what you think! ───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── [big]Categories[/big]
Change and Add Category • Rename Garo% → Kouga% or Any% Kouga • Add Rei% or Any% Rei
The reason for this name change is because the character's name aren't Garo or Zero, that's the name of their respective armor that they can transform into. • Kouga Saezima → Transforms into Garo Armor. • Rei Suzumura → Transforms into Zero Armor
It might be weird to use their transformation name. Also Zero% can a bit confusing since it sounds and reads as 0%.
Add Subcategories for all difficulties • Easy • Normal • Hard ───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── [big]Rules[/big] Here's just some basic rule template that I came up with.
General • Beat the game as Kouga (Garo) - Category Specific • Beat the game as Rei (Zero) - Category Specific
Timing
Time Starts: • Option #1. Upon pressing 牙狼Mode (Garo Mode) • Option #2 (Best). Upon selecting the first level
- Reason for this is if you unlock ZERO then you get the option to select between Rei (Zero) or Kouga (Garo) which might lose extra time than if you didn’t have both unlocked. More fair this way regardless I think.
Time Ends: • Option #1. Upon dealing the final blow to the last boss (As seen when slow-motion effect starts) • Option #2 (Best). When you can see Kouga’s face
- Much easier to time and much more exact to when time ends. • Option #3. When “WINNER” has stopped moving. ───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── [big]Visual Fixes[/big] • Background - https://imgur.com/a/0YBSutP • Rank Icon - https://imgur.com/a/oFHAdYx
- Not the best ones tbh, I couldn't manage to find any good ones to make into icons. If you know any better, feel free to let me know. • Favicon - Same as Rank Icon • Discord - https://discord.gg/uNvtmTq
I found a way to do an earlier "Ramon Boss Skip". You can do the skip much earlier with this method and it's also much easier to fall right onto the cutscene trigger. It saves quite a decent amount of time.
It might be a bit harder to get this one but I'm not sure.
Hey guys. Here's just some things I think that can be done to improve the leaderboards for this game. These are just my suggestions so feel free to let me know what you think.
[big]Individual Levels Rules[/big] So we recently added all of the missions in the game to the Level Leaderboards. Now the question is how to setup the rules for them.
These are my suggestions: • MUST be started via Chapter Select. • Real Time (RTA) is used. • While not required it’s appreciated if you use a timer (Livesplits). Time Starts: • If Skippable Cutscenes or Partner Switch are Available: Then time starts after skipping everything that is possible. (See 1-1) • If There’s No Skippable Cutscenes or Partner Switch: Then time starts upon when the screen has faded to black. (See 1-2) Time Ends: • If There’s A Last Action Performed: Then time ends when you lose control over your character. For example if the last thing you do is pull a lever or something. (See 1-2). • If It Ends With Cutscenes: Then time ends when the screen has faded to black (See 1-3).
[big]Full-game Rule Change[/big] Time Start: When press skip on first cutscene. Time Ends: When you release the fully charged shot (first frame you see the pink/purple colors).
[big]Remove the 4th Rank Icon[/big] I personally think a 4th place rank icon is just not needed. It's also way too bright.
[big]Make the 1st and 3rd Rank Icons more colorful (More Gold and More Bronze)[/big] Doesn’t look really that Gold or Bronze.
[big]Cake% → Cakewalk%[/big] Since all other difficulties (Rust’Em Up/Survivor and No Mercy) are fully named why not Cakewalk?
There's another wrong submitted run for 10-Man Melee.
Ravenyte is 1st for Pichu but his video proof is with his Pikachu.
See the submission in question here: https://www.speedrun.com/ssbm/run/pzgn0vjy
I just noticed a wrongly submitted run on the 10-Man Melee leaderboards. Demon9 currently is the 1st place on the Link category but with video of his Pichu run.
See the submission in question here: https://www.speedrun.com/ssbm/run/8y89xlxm
Thank you! I really appreciate that you listened and took my feedback into consideration. I'm looking forward to the changes!
Hey guys! So I've recently started a couple of days ago speedrunning some Event Matches and since then I noticed a couple of issues with the Level Leaderboards that I think should be looked at.
Keep in mind these are just my personal opinions and suggestions to get some discussion started. Feel free to let me know what you guys think as well.
[big]Issue[/big]
-
"Ravenyte" is 1st place on 13 of 10-Man Melee categories without any video proof.
-
"pyh189" is 1st place on all 25 categories of 100-Man Melee without any video proof.
-
"Kaneda_Charles" is top 3 on plently of Event Matches with video proof looking like this: . I personally think that video proof means an actual video of the run and not just a couple of screenshots in the format of a video. If this is accepted then the rules will need to reflect of this.
-
Target Test, 10-Man Melee and 100-Man Melee has no rules at all.
-
IL's are submitted with "Real Time" as opposed to "In-game Time" which is confusing for new runners and yet there is nothing in the rules that state this.
[big]Suggestions & Fixes[/big]
-
Add Rules To: • Target Test • 10-Man Melee • 100-Man Melee
-
Update Rules To Include: "Real Time is used when submitting IL's".
-
All Runs Should Require Video Proof
-
Add Video Proof For "Ravenyte" and "pyh189": • "Ravenyte" with all characters except for Mewtwo which is done by "pyh189": https://archive.org/details/SSBM_10mm_Aug04
• "pyh189" 100-Man Melee runs: https://archive.org/details/SSBM_100mm_Dec04
- Remove All Runs Without Video Proof

I've recently gotten into this game and decided to start things off with some IL's. Then I noticed you can't submit times with milliseconds for this game.
It seems weird to go after the rules that states "Goes by in-game time." when you cannot actually submit the real in-game time as no milliseconds are allowed.
Someone could hypothetical have a "39.99s" and another "39.01s" and they would both be tied as "39s" which doesn't seem fair.
It seems rather weird when Shadow of the Colossus (2018) allows milliseconds and simply states the full-game rules as "When submitting runs, please do not include milliseconds in your time. That slot exists solely for individual time attack submissions." and IL's as "Include milliseconds in submissions.".
It seems to already have a solution at hand so why not this game? Any particular reason for this decision?
Hello everyone, sorry for all the changes as of late. I've had some discussion with WMJ and decided to add Japanese/USA/Europe versions as sub-categories respectively for Easy/Normal/Hard difficulties (Very Easy/Very Hard does exist outside Japanese versions).
See guide here for more information on the subject: [big]"Region Differences Guide"[/big]
This is because all regional versions didn't compare identical and differed quite a ton between all difficulties. This created unfair competition and thus changes has been made to fix this issue.
Let me know if everything looks alright and hopefully you'll like this change and let me know what you guys think! I had to manually re-submit a couple of runs so if something looks off, please do tell me.
If a category is named "Easy" then that's what the category is, regardless if it's not the same as other versions "Easy" difficulty. You can disagree if you want, that's fine.
I'm not excluding the USA/EUR versions, I did state that if you would like, I could create such sub-categories. What I meant was that at this current point in time there are simply no competition and thus I felt it wasn't any big deal to rush with such changes, since you are the sole runner of that regional version anyway.
I have since tested the EUR version and you can find read more in my guide. Anyways, below are the most important changes.
[big]** https://imgur.com/a/rFEuh **[/big] USA = Europe = Japanese • Easy = Easy = Normal • Normal = Hard ≈ Hard • Hard = Normal = Very Hard
Between USA and EUR versions, other than the diffculties themselves being different in terms of damage, everything else are the same, including equipment capacity. USA/EUR have the same item capacity so no issues with that but it’s still not fair in all difficulties.
I understand the need for the change, no doubt about it. I'm not a unreasonable guy and I will gladly do the changes if you feel that it will improve the usability of this page. I'm sorry if I have came across as being strict or anything, I just don't want to rush into making blind decisions. Just let me know and I'll see what I can do!
I haven't played on 60fps so I can't say if it's way harder or not. However I've always played uncapped with 144hz and had no troubles getting the clips. I'd say use whatever works for you.
All it takes is that moment where everything suddenly makes sense. Keep up the good work and if you need more help don't hesitate to ask!
There's honestly not much to it. You simply shoot before doing a Melee Attack with certain weapons, I recommend Assault Rifle/Anti-Armor Pistol as these tend to be more consistent for me.
I don't know what else I can say other than that, it's honestly nothing complex. All you need to do is the same as in the videos. Try experiment with your angles as well. I might not be to much of help as I've never really had to think much of it, it shouldn't be that inconsistent as to only get it 3 times per hour.
It might differ depending if you play on PC or Consoles as well if 60fps or 120/144fps.
When you are talking about the equipment capacity, do you mean the max for Arm Cannon is only 1? If so, when you clear a stage which grants item rewards does it say 0x Arm Cannon afterwards (assuming you already have 1x Arm Cannon)?
I was initially going to create new categories for "Japanese" and "USA/Europe" version but didn't because there's no competition anyway to warrant those change as well as it will further clutter the page with tons of empty categories and lonely categories of only one runner.
I'm not going to verify a "Easy" run on USA/EUR versions as a "Normal" run even though the difficulties when compared seems to suggest identical in terms of damage and whatnot. Sure it might be more fair but "Easy" is "Easy" regardless and it's hard to know if it's truly identical to "Normal" or not.
Then the issues comes and works in both ways, meaning I can submit my runs as seen below. This is not fair for anyone. • (USA) Easy = Normal (JPN) • (USA) Normal = Hard (JPN) • (USA) Hard = Very Hard (JPN)
If you want, I could create new categories for USA/EUR respectively. I think however it won't be fair to group up both USA/EUR together, atleast since you mentioned the fact the equipment capacity is different.
I have found an UK ROM of the game and I will start updating my "Regional Differences" guide tomorrow and see what I can find out about the version.
