CONGRATS ON THE FIRST 26

Hard resets are preferred! What I tend to do is to set my Reset key to R on my keyboard (which you can do in Config > Hotkeys) so that it's convenient for my brain!

It basically resets the NES console to a blank state, as if you pressed the power button off, and on again!

I hope this helps ^^

Hi! From my experience running the game, the timer stars whenever you press A on the "OK?", so basically on the second time you mentionned ^^

Good luck running Super Circuit! It's a fun game but very, very RNG dependant for good times ><

I'll agree with everyone else - this game is absolutely brutal for the final few stages alone. Heck, even casually, I still cannot beat the final boss consistently, it's a nightmare!

The first game might be a better pick, or really, many other games on the console!

To quote Laxxus in the Discord server, "heart countdown makes such a huge difference in whip only/low%, especially with how easy you can collect additional hearts (like in fleaman alley...)" I think the logic here is this: avoiding the extra candle hearts and heart drops is part of the challenge in Whip/Low%, while in Any% you're just focusing on completing the game as fast as possible without any catches ^^

Well if I were a mod of the series I'd be okay with that since it shouldn't take too long to check if that makes sense ^^ But I get that other people are busier than me, too : P Anyway yes you're right that there's still a bunch of other decent options for emulation around (Bizhawk is especially robust!) but I still think it's somewhat unfair, you know? ;-;

(Thank you for your reply @Backslash !) Anyway, from what I've seen in the SMB1 thread, this feature seems to cause problems when it's put all the way to the lowest amount of lag/the highest setting. For that reason, I think it'd be a good idea to only allow this feature to be enabled for 1-2 frames at most, since this is the average difference between emulation setups and CRT setups.

I also did a bit of testing using the latest version of Mesen, and while playing Ninja Gaiden III (U), things - most notably the screen's scrolling - only started to look a bit off starting with 3 frames of run ahead ^^

I think that a 1, maybe 2-frame limit - along with Vria's suggestion of a mandatory showcase of those settings at the end of each PB/WR - would be perfect. Not everyone has access to original hardware or original carts, and because of that it's sad that some people have an input lag disadvantage from the start. I think it would be potentially AMAZING to bridge the gap between console and emu to make things more accessible and balanced for everyone! Cause here's the thing: even if there is other options for emulation in order to make this community more open in an age of dying consoles, a good bunch of emulators have been accepted despite being known to be somewhat innaccurate, such as FCEUX. So even then...even if this feature is ultimately deemed to render those NES games too different from their original source - consoles - why should we ban one of the most accurate emus around simply for having an optional feature?

I'm sorry for this big wall of text, but I genuinely feel like we're not only missing something great with this ban, but also removing one of the best emus around - with an easy fix to this issue, as well!

By how much can the run-ahead feature reduce the input lag compared to typical NES emulation, and then by how much compared to your typical CRT setup? : o

Basically, I just told him the feature was available somewhere else with their own leaderboards, but I should've realized that it doesn'T mean we could have this feature here for those who don't use leaderboards for specific games, like me : P

I'd be interested! I have experience with this run and NES games in general, and I also mod a leaderboard for another NES game, Power Blade!

QuébecNeoKad4 years ago

I'd be interested! I really like NG1 as a speedgame and I've had some experience modding leaderboards thanks to Power Blade, another NES game ^^

QuébecNeoKad4 years ago

I'm shocked there's no leaderboards at all for this version of the game since it's definitively the most famous of the bunch

Good morning/afternoon/evening! I noticed that the Sega CD cult classic Popful Mail currently has no moderators at all, because it seems the only mod for this game deleted this account a while back : o So, I was just wondering if it'd be possible for me to take this role? I love this game, so I just thought it should at least get some support whenever someone decides to speedrun it ^^

Well if anything, the official Turrican II backup disk posted on Factor 5's website is contained on only one disk file. So if you're running on something other than an official machine, this might be useful!

Otherwise, I don't think I can help you since I (sadly?) never owned an actual Amiga, sorry ;-;

Heeeeey!

I kinda messed around with this game a while ago, and as far as I know... 1- From what I experimented, if you stop for roughly 20-30 frames as soon as those enemies appear, this will cause them to not raise their shield quickly enough, allowing you to slash them in time! The timing can be very tricky though, so you'll need to experiment for sure ^^

2- I'm really not sure about this point, but I think they do as much damage as your sword, but with the benefit of possibly hitting the enemies/bosses twice due to how big their hitboxes are, and also because i-frames are nonexistent in this game :P

It's not some very technical knowledge but I hope it'll help you!

I don't really have much to add, since SBDWolf summed it up really well I think ^^

But I might as well add this: It's true that, by that logic, we should separate every single version of the game into their own board, such as the GBA ports or the WiiVC rerelease. However, I think a key point to remember is that most of those versions are EXTREMELY similar to one another! There's no heart count difference, no item drop changes, no messing around with framerules and such, etc. What I'm trying to say is, for example, if we ignore the minuscule framerate difference between the WiiVC and the NES as a whole - which isn't a difference in the game itself - then most of those versions are identical to each other, which would make creating so many boards for so many versions silly.

But since the FDS rerelease does have a difference in the game itself no matter what port is ran (the heart count), then I do think it's an advantage most versions don't have, so that's why I think it's fair for it to have its own board.
