Sadly (or perhaps not, because it is a bug after all, but anyway it is still disappointing in a way,) I can update to say that I have trialed the above glitch in 1.14 three times and it does not work.
What happened before was that, when you reload first, it saves, then when you next enter the world and quit promptly it saves the fact that you have the item in your inventory, but not the fact that the item is no longer in your world, so when you re-enter the game, you get the item twice. Now, it seems the game saves both of those facts, so you only get one item.
There may still be ways of item duplication in 1.14, but I am not fully aware of any.
Here are some videos on YouTube I found concerning item duplication (I have not trialled these):
If I try these, I will update to say if they worked.
Anyway, I do not think the glitches here would be a replacement of the one I was describing earlier, because that one you could do with no particular items, mobs, or blocks, anytime, anywhere, whilst costing not much IGT. These glitches may still duplicate items, but they would all be IGT-costly and require a special setup involving particular items/mobs/blocks which you have to obtain beforehand, hence I think they would have little use for a speedrun. The only one which I think might be useful is the one which only requires you to have a double chest (as they are fairly cheap and this one appears not to cost much IGT.) In any case, I think that it is still important to know whether or not items can be duplicated in 1.14.x, so that the developers can fix them.
You still have to build a nether portal, get the ingredients for the potion, brew it, climb/mine to the top, and then down to the bottom.
(Also you can grab an enchanted golden apple from a chest which is probably faster and more reliable at least for set seed)
And, if you were going for the end challenge, get the eyes of ender (unless you are using a seed with a portal with 12 eyes already filled in, or are 1 in 1 trillion lucky), go to the stronghold and get into the portal, stack to the build limit probably with the dragon still there (or else you would have to waste time killing it) and then jump in the void.
I personally think this is a fairly difficult and potentially entertaining challenge idea.
Also there would still be the challenge of reaching sky limit and bedrock.
(+ Nether floor and ceiling)
(+ End sky limit and the void)
I believe this idea has already been proposed in another thread: https://www.speedrun.com/mc/thread/4utpz
I agree that using a creeper to explode an ore block is not "mining" but I think that at some point in the future we will revise these categories.
In 1.13.2 I would drop the item on the block surface below me, S&Q before it goes back into my inventory, reopen the world, close the game as soon as the item moves back into my inventory, reload the game, re-enter the world and have two of them.
(Not that I did this often because I don't like to cheat ;-) )
I've not tried it in 1.14 yet, I may post back if/when I test this but I am too busy right now.
I think this might be an enjoyable category to some people, but in my opinion it does not sound too fun because with Set Seed somebody will find a seed on the edge of a cliff and then the whole category would just be double tapping W ASAP + fastest hardware. As for Random Seed, it will just be resetting to try to do the above.
If you would enjoy trying this category I certainly would not want to stop you but I personally do not think I would enjoy it.
You could try downloading the old launcher? I'm sorry, I don't particularly know, but I hope you manage to fix it :)
Also, in case this helps, it seems that 1.7.2 is most common amongst the top RSG runs so that's probably your best bet (I don't know exactly why though.)
On your post I seem to only be able to see the "Blocks as Compasses" video, even if I hit "watch on youtube.com"
But I did find your tutorials by searching for them on youtube, I was particularly interested by the one about "triangulating strongholds." As I have said in my earlier post (and another thread) I am working on a program to automate this mathematically, but I suppose your tips could help for somebody who didn't want to use F3 (but that would not include me as I do not personally consider coordinates "cheating" and my run would still be accepted as a valid speedrun.)
It doesn't seem to be a category right now but I suppose we could create one?
Honiglecker, please can I confirm the new seed is 4929216164286115443 for 1.8.8?
Oh I have now seen that we have a new 1.8 seed which may be why we are a little busy right now. I have been practising on the old one (i.e. -2063810908146531904 for MCJE 1.6.4) but do you think I ought to switch to using the new one? Is there a TAS yet on the new one? I will probably watch the new runs and think about which to use. Anway, thank you again.
Hello,
My general advice would be to use versions before 1.9 because the new ender dragon fight takes too long after that. I think 1.7.x seems to be preferred because the mob AI was updated in 1.8 as well which makes things a little trickier.
You should start by punching trees and making a wooden pick <- stone pick <- maybe iron and getting a good amount of iron (chests if you are lucky + multiple furnaces), you should have shears, a bucket, flint + steel, and as much armour and tools as possible. You need to shear sheep (for beds) and kill chickens (or dig up snow) for arrows, plus mining gravel if you choose to have a bow.
Then head to the nether and get 6-8 blaze rods depending on your confidence.
The real bottleneck of this challenge is the endermen - your best hope is to run around at night (all this time you should kill animals with flint and steel to get cooked meat so you can jump/sprint) and kill every one you see - if you want to be safer, you should go into a 2-high space so they can't attack you but do not need to do this and may save time if you are willing to take a minor risk. During the daytime, you may want to look in caves as sadly endermen do not spawn in the nether prior to 1.10. If you are very lucky you may be able to obtain a looting sword which will significantly save time on the blazes and endermen, but as I say you would need a lot of good luck for this to actually save more time than it takes.
If you are going for the bow + arrow option you must also kill spiders in order to obtain string, Illumina missed out on the WR in this category because he did not remember this.
With you eyes of ender in hand throw them and try to find the stronghold (I am trying to build a computer program to locate this and will post it here when I accomplish this, but do forgive me that I do not have it ready for use yet. But perhaps my efforts are somewhat in vain as it may in fact be slower, but it is less risky because by only throwing 2 eyes of ender you do not so much risk them breaking). Fill in the eye of ender slots with you eyes of ender. Before you go in make sure you have a good amount of food, bow+arrows/snowballs, 4+ beds, some blocks, and a water bucket.
In the end, bridge/mine your way to the end islands, use projectiles to take out the towers, then use the bed trick to kill the dragon - 4 is the minimum generally but it is possible with 3 beds. Use the water bucket to save yourself if the ender dragon knocks you upwards. When the dragon is dead, get into the end portal as fast as you can.
I'm sorry this is so long and all, I in fact am not even that experienced with this category as I mainly work on set seed speedruns. I am however trying to do any% random seed glitchless in 1.13+ but I do not think I will come close to the WR doing anything like that! Anyway, hope this helps! MiracleDinner
Well done Illumina on new WR + sub 7.
Does anybody know of a TAS of this category on the 1.6.4 seed we use? I would be interested to see how fast it can be done.
I seem to observe we have had a lot of activity in this category recently, I have been practising myself but usually get stuck either on the blazes (takes too long or I burn to death) or on the ender dragon (bed trick not mastered yet) plus the fact that more or less only 1/3 runs actually work thanks to spider RNG. I will get there eventually!
I apologise if my original post is too long or multi-subjected but I was impressed with the newest runs in this category, and would be interested to see the TAS.
Thanks, MiracleDinner
If you wait long enough near the spawner you should get more. Each time there should be 1-4 blazes and a new round comes every 10-20 seconds (I think, I do not know the exact timings.) You may be lucky and find blazes outside of the spawner, although it is more dangerous you should kill them to save time. Yes there is a lot of RNG but if you are waiting much longer than 20 seconds or are only getting 1 blaze at a time maybe you are experiencing a bug of some kind, in which case I do not think I could offer much help but wish you luck finding some.
l4m2, I said in my earlier post that I believe CryoJester means that the timer stops when you create an iron golem (using four iron blocks and one pumpkin,) not when you "find" one.
Hello,
The rules say: "If the resource pack or mod does not grant any advantage to the player and/or doesn't change the game considerably, it may be accepted if the moderator verifying the run finds it acceptable, but because it's a subjective matter, it is greatly encouraged to not use any."
So the answer is it might be allowed if it does not give you a significant advantage and/or change the game considerably, but it is probably better if you use none. For the timer, you should be allowed to use the ones found under "Resources."
I hope this answers your question.
Update: the above program seems not to be working, probably need to revise the calculations.
It should be possible though: Toycat was doing this on the Console versions of Minecraft but I imagine the same logic applies to Java?
Illumina, please can you confirm using a program to compute the location of an end portal using Python 3.6 in codio.com I wrote myself, which uses the coordinates obtained by throwing an eye of ender whilst doing the run, does not use the world seed, on a random seed speedrun, is allowed?
My current Python code for portal finding (I think it should be right in theory but have not confirmed it): [x1, z1] = [float(x) for x in input("Enter the x- and z- (respectively, and not y) coordinates of where the first ender eye starts. Separate two floats with spaces").split(" ")] [x2, z2] = [float(x) for x in input("Enter the x- and z- (respectively, and not y) coordinates of where the first ender eye finishes. Separate two floats with spaces").split(" ")] [x3, z3] = [float(x) for x in input("Enter the x- and z- (respectively, and not y) coordinates of where the second ender eye starts. Separate two floats with spaces").split(" ")] [x4, z4] = [float(x) for x in input("Enter the x- and z- (respectively, and not y) coordinates of where the second ender eye finishes. Separate two floats with spaces").split(" ")]
m1 = (z2 - z1) / (x2 - x1) m2 = (z4 - z3) / (x4 - x3) c1 = z1 - m1 * x1 c2 = z3 - m2 * z3
ans_x = (c2 - c1) / (m1 - m2) ans_z = m1 * ans_x + c1
print ("The portal is at (x,z) =", ans_x, ans_z)
It's really simple, you just use input the start and finishing coords of two ender eye throws and then it obtains two lots of y = mx + c, which can be solved using the above equations.
But I suppose using a computer program (e.g. running Python 3.6 on codio.com) is not disallowed even on random seed, as I could theoretically do it mentally.
To address osukiomi's issue, I believe all runs are judged on IGT, as looking at the leaderboard for any% set seed with glitches, Illumina (7m43s RT, 2m04s IGT) is ahead of TheeSizzler (4m48s RT, 2m31s).
I'm not sure what you mean by "If in-game time is the correct measurement to use, is the an IGT for 1.13+?" Do you mean is there a timer you can use? I believe OBS works in 1.13, but perhaps you would need to ask somebody more experienced than me, because I have not yet tried to use a timer in a Minecraft speedrun.
I am not sure about the rule saying you can't analyse seeds. If your video testifies your seed was random, then there are so many seeds in Minecraft you can never realistically expect to get a seed you already recognise. I am not sure whether or not it is in compliance with the rules, for example, to use /seed and then to pause and enter that into a program which tells you information about that seed.
One program I am trying to build is one which solves linear equations to locate the stronghold with only two eyes of ender. I believe this should be valid as I am not using anything which uses the actual string of numbers to predict what the seed should be, I am merely using coordinates (which are definitely valid) and automating a calculation I could do mentally.
Perhaps you would be better off asking a moderator, who might have to deal with this issue whilst verifying a random seed speedrun, but I hope my answer helps.
