what if you do it faster than 10 - 12 hours

looks fun!

I do not think bender cheats. I'm probably a top-3 most watched viewer of Bender and I have no reason to think he has better drop rates than the rest of us, or better maps, etc. I think the list would be endless if we started pointing out when unexplainable RNG odds have happened in a speedrun, and we've all gotten it. I was pointing out one of my most recent ones - I've gotten hsarus boots more than any of the other llama-event competitors combined.

Bender plays more than the rest of us and makes runs work more than the rest of us, and finishes out a strong run more often than the rest of us, hence why his good-gear dropping runs tend to be highlighted more than the rest of us.

I think I've had hsarus boots drop before a3 normal around 6-7 times during this competition. I think three of which turned out to be my PB, and one (on freaking barb week) should have been my PB, but never had an el rune drop.

Thanks Indrek for getting this category started

Well, there goes any chance of having a half-decent looking, filled out leaderboard.

“Finally” - I’d love to join in on races if the hours are reasonable for me. I was pretty sad when the recent series of hell races were changed to impossible times for me.

It’s odd how it ended up exacerbating the very thing it was meant to mitigate However, I’ve been under the impression that RTA and IGT are both their own categories, most people just seem to favor IGT more for some reason. On the website you can sort the leaderboard by RTA and it’ll reassign new rankings (gold/silver/bronze) trophies for the two (I think?) categories where there are two different runs with one faster IGT and the other RTA. I’m not sure how or if it’s worth changing the system at this point, both kind of have their strengths and meaningfulness. However, it might be worth exploring allowing for multiple runs to be submitted to the same category. Like when Indrek got the 2 or 3 jail setup, he annihilated the RTA record, IIRC, but it didn’t beat the IGT or beat it by much, which is because IGT can be abused.

Is this time limit like... during one stream or within like 10 days?

United StatesMekalb3 years ago

What do you have against a category with over 40 speedruns posted in it? It's kinda ironic that you chose this over PD2 also, which has far less runs submitted.

Edit: I also think this Ryu-pre-geared category is really cool, I've already began creating a character and plan on running with it when I can find time. With the runs being on "Category Extensions", I'm all for filling out a few tabs worth of challenge-runs, as long as it gets a decent amount of traction (I think >15ish runs is a decent start).

Egg plays on a chitty laptop, maybe take a look at his runs?

I've memed about this before - Kano's run is 4th fastest RTA. We would be back to watching Kano do HC runs, what a wonderful problem to have! Kappa

The sorc leaderboard will be tragic though... But, that is the leaderboard that sort of started all of this anyway (and the only real meaningful IGT leaderboard). Whatever we decide, it's going to be ugly. #SCAM

Edit: I would think my preference is to have both times posted on the website. I'm not familiar with API stuff, so I don't really understand the issue behind that. But if it is possible, I think I'm okay with sorting by either RTA or IGT. I don't see it an issue populating these RTA for maybe like top 10 of every leaderboard, shouldn't take much time.

Yea, I think p1 was mainly the norm back then. It still kind of is now, but it's lost a lot of popularity... I think most runners right now prefer px over p1, p1 is just still ran because they are the most competitive. I agree with OP that I think it's about time the leaderboards are fixed to represent any% as px, and p1 as a subcategory of the true any%.

Was it established whos 23:59 the contest ends? PST?

Edit: Nevermind, looks like the first paragraph states PST. My bad.

I think there is a really strong case for sorc speedruns. I’ve been practicing 200fcr teleporting, as well as playing and watching others do sorc hell runs and there is certain In game lag that comes with Aggressive teleporting. Other spells and classes are pretty rare though... only other scenario I can really think of is aoeing massive groups of beetles.

I think Classic is something worth revisiting, and any other controversial decision that someone has built a case for reverting the decision.

Thanks! I’ll check it out and get a better feel for it.

I would say I watch 30-40 hours of d2 speedrunning a week, because I think the game is pretty much perfect as we’ve been playing it. I don’t watch or play any other games anymore, and I watch a variety of d2 speedrunners. With that being said, I think it would kill my experience watching or playing d2 speedrunning with breaks. It wouldn’t feel like a speedrun to me having strategic breaks. It’s not something I would participate in, and in this case, I oppose it altogether.

Like I said before, -ns or putting game sound to 0 isn’t something I would participate in, but I still think it’s fair game. Something like -ns would be hard to police, and it is probably just something that we have to live with, even for those of us who don’t want to participate in it, or generally oppose the idea (me). I think switching clients between -ns and not is a bit shady, but I also think that’s okay. Hopefully -ns doesn’t leave sorc, however, but I wouldn’t be opposed if someone wanted to endure through this. I sort of see no sound and -ns as a fair part of playing D2.

As for IGT, I think I’d have to watch at least a few hours of it to get a feel of what I think about it. This concept is too new to me to know how it would work out, and if I believe it’s good for the d2 community or not. Someone would have to research what sort of time loss we get playing between different operating systems, etc., and find the root cause of why some computers have different load times to others to convince me this would have substantial difference between one runner to the next. I think we need some empirical substance to this discussion before this idea needs to be entertained.

I’m pretty old fashioned, so I don’t think I would necessarily participate IGT anyway unless it really is easy to set up, and for strictly normal load times (not pause timer during menu, and TCP/IP should absolutely NOT cause the timer to stop IMO, this is a gamble that deserves a time loss to it, because it’s not a native function of single player D2 LOD; or, my preference, ban TCP/IP altogether in speedruns, but that is probably a wildly unpopular idea).
