The boss spawns as you reach the xp goal, so theres no way to purposely balance it by getting more xp since it force spawns unlike the skill levels itself where you can choose when you take advantage off leveling up (accesing the bazaar, another island ect.) so you can get more xp to makeup for the xp boost before triggering the launch pad or bazaar

If you let the dragon fly too low, it can hit you. I recommend you press F3 + B to see all hitboxes, and study the dragons hitbox yourself, and find the sweet spot for when to explode the bed, and how low to let the dragon purge.

You can use the toggle sprint option within the vanilla settings itself, not toggle sprint trough a mod.
