If streaming decreases my FPS by 15%, is this not tool assisted? If running GTA 5 in the background decreases my FPS by 30%, is this not tool assisted? If running software in the background decreases my FPS in any way, is this not tool assisted? It shouldn't matter what my "intention" is behind what I chose to run in the background and why, should it? What if I prepare some recording/streaming software to start up an extremely high quality recording and/or stream of my gameplay which will definitely drop my frames by 50% or more once the hotkey is pressed? Oh, my intentions are "bad"? Very funny.

I vote D. : "Frame limiters" are not allowed, but streaming/recording software is allowed.

(Obviously I'm voting C. because B. is a total joke. Anyone supporting the sarcastic option which is D. knows how ridiculous it is to not allow the frame limiter at all times. The moment you only allow something for a specific moment in the run, you're making yourself into a fool. Get real.)

BTW, those of us on 1.4 aren't locked at 53-55 FPS with Vsync. Odyssic said he was getting 55 with Vsync on, with version 1.7. On 1.7, Vsync limits your FPS to 60. Just an FYI.

United StatesKyle9 years ago

One problem: After trying what Jolzi mentioned, I assumed I would be locked at 30 only if I turned on Vsync in-game, but it actually is locking me at 30 at all times, so that won't work. We need to figure out a reasonable option for people who will never be able to get less than 60 frames. Reminder that this doesn't describe my situation at the moment. I can get a bit less than 60, probably 50-55, with everything maxed and pull myself up regardless of the combination spam.

United StatesKyle9 years ago

Edit:

If you're still getting 60 fps with all of your in game settings maxed out and vsync turned on (without your GPU setting set to "half refresh rate"), it's impossible to pull yourself up with a single key spam. It is however possible with the combination of a controller button and another key bind being spammed.

PW, didn't you say you've always used the double spam? Regardless, what FPS are you getting during the climb? And Dispersor, how have you prepared for the climb and what's your FPS during it? I assume, for both of you, you either were already getting less than 60 FPS at that point (without vsync turned on) and/or increased some settings to get less/somewhere between 30-60 and/or used a double key bind spam with your FPS at or below 60.

The point here is that, both right now and in the future, even with maxed settings and vsync turned on (without your GPU setting set to "half refresh rate"), some people will never be able to get their FPS below 60, no matter what, unless they're given a refresh rate option in-game of something less than 60Hz (which I and others don't have) or limit it in some other way. (and we can't force these people to use a controller)

Beginner's Any% Guide: If you're new to the IV Any% speedrun or just aren't so sure if your current plan will get you through the run without issue, don't fret. I've created a guide that should basically get anyone through the IV Any% run, no matter what their pace is. With this guide, every single player should be able to get through the run without issue. Link below. GTA IV is too complex to ever have a universal route/plan, mainly due to pace differences which lead to differences in the time of day at any given point in the run. It has nothing to do with RNG, well, other than the few activity calls which must come in at some point during the run. These few calls can trip up anyone's plan in a minor way, but as long as you've memorized which missions unlock which messages, learned the message timers, learned how unavailability times work, and lastly, but most importantly, gained a lot of experience with the game, then you should have no issue coming up with a plan which is best for your pace whether you start with mine and make changes or start from scratch.

I've done a lot of testing with the date/Bleed Out combination and always came to the conclusion that you're going to lose time trying any other possibility than what we've been doing. As for what blocking calls during missions can do, and what I'm referring to is the act of completely skipping them, not just the type of end of mission call blocking we do, I've found that it either leads to a softlock or nothing more than just not having to hear the call. One example of this is blocking the call to Roman after dropping the girls off during Three's a Crowd. I was unable to purchase clothing (or maybe the store's doors were shut and locked, I forget). Easy enough to test as there aren't a whole lot of auto calls during missions.

United StatesKyle9 years ago

For the ones that say "...seconds passed", "...real minutes passed" or "...of real time", just divide the amount of time in half and convert to in-game minutes (2 real seconds == 1 in-game minute). Some background colors need changed as well (all being messages that can be avoided). I'll fix these later.

Also, during testing, I never received the text from Packie and the call from Kate regarding giving her a call/asking to go on a date and I'm assuming this was because I called her before these had a chance to show up. My recommendation is to call her just before entering the marker for Three Leaf Clover.

United StatesKyle9 years ago

I went through the entire game and tested every single Any% mission. There might be a few mistakes, but I'm sure it's no less than 95% correct. If something needs corrected, post it here.

¤All required time advancements are in in-game time¤

Know the availability times: http://www.gta4.net/friends-and-girlfriends/ ¤Friend unavailability times DO affect activity phone calls, but DO NOT affect any other call ¤Friend unavailability times DO affect all texts AKA it's impossible to receive a text message from any of the five friends during their unavailability times

It's recommended that you delete all text messages to avoid bizarre instances of receiving the same text message multiple times. Best practice is to perform the deletion during a mission, while driving or waiting, rather than immediately after receiving the text.

(Compared to really good SMG execution)

  1. Rocket shot at the door to the manager's room saves ~10 seconds.
  2. Rocket shot at either of the pillars, killing/knocking down everyone so you can climb, saves ~1 second.
  3. Doing #2 with a primed grenade (starting the prime just before entering the restaurant) is no faster, and will almost always result in you losing more health.

Because that straightaway mod kept flipping me the moment I would lean back. I have to find another one which is like the one I used, but doesn't cause me to launch in the air.

Update: I updated the chart. Basically, if you want to accelerate as fast as possible, you've got to lean back, lean forward, and repeat. This was already known, I just couldn't get the top speeds on that mod, so I did point to point time trials at the airport. To best maintain your speed, hold lean forward, but make sure you let off of it when turning.

United StatesKyle9 years ago

This is how you should do this mission if you want to get the armor or just don't want to do the riskier strat of shooting a rocket at the manager's door (and it is risky because I've either died or almost died multiple times when attempting it). The roll at the end is a new addition.

United StatesKyle9 years ago

Useful rocket strats: (4 rockets left at the end of Babysitting, always can buy more if absolutely necessary) Late Checkout- Fire a rocket at the table after entering the living area/dining area Payback- Fire a rocket at the group of guys inside of the car showroom Flatline- Fire a rocket down the hall or inside the neighboring room to kill the guy in the other room Trespass- Fire a rocket at the helicopter (or throw a grenade at the heli to save a rocket) Dining Out- Fire a rocket over the first few stairs and railing to knock over/kill multiple annoying enemies (more of a safety strat, avoid to save a rocket) A Dish Served Cold- Fire two rockets at Dimitri (or one rocket and then shoot him if he's visible or one rocket and one grenade, or two grenades and no rockets if you want to save two for Out of Commission) Out of Commission- Fire a rocket at a car near the entrance and make a dash for the building. If you have another rocket, fire it at the end of the room and make and sprint to the cutscene trigger.

I tested every vehicle on an object mod which was a very long straightaway made out of skate ramps placed parallel to each other. I had the km/h displayed with the trainer and would speed up the vehicle with the trainer, which would put the vehicle at a speed definitely over its max, and then I'd stop the boosting while continuing to hold W. Eventually, the vehicle would drop to it's max after deaccelerating, which was evident by the km/h basically stuck at one speed (aside from the decimal constantly increasing and decreasing by a tiny bit).

Reminder that the type of surface that you're testing on will affect every vehicle's top speed in a uniform manner. (aka) If I tested on concrete/asphalt instead of the smooth wood, the top speeds would all be less, but I guarantee the positions would be the same.

Wait by your cab after starting the mission, hold F when the call to Roman begins to block it and get into the cab at the same time. Run past the yellow marker and turn around to run back a bit so that you and Roman reach the marker as fast as possible. Follow the route seen in the video. It's ok if you get a wanted level during the drive.

Have a cab hailed and vehicle density set at 100 before starting the mission. If you see a better four door vehicle than the cab, go for it, both before or after the cutscene. Otherwise, steal the cab. If you want to steal a police car, be aware that you have to lose the wanted level for the marker to spawn at the bank. Always set vehicle density back to 1 before starting the drive. Vehicle stats chart: www.imgur.com/Gl1Dpm1.jpg

Save your ammo, ignore the cops waiting at the bank's exit since killing them doesn't speed up anything. Only kill the cop standing to the right, because he'll shoot at you in the alleyway. There are two routes that you can take after blowing up the final cop car. This video shows the right (directional) route. It's riskier because you're out in the open more, but it saves 1-2 seconds over the left route.

This video shows the left route, I recommend using it if you're worried about dying.

¤Hold W and tap Space so you jump after skipping the first cutscene inside of the bank ¤Shoot Packie twice in the chest to skip most of his dialogue after retrieving the money ¤The cops take some time to spawn in the first alleyway, as you'll see in the video ¤The final cop car won't explode if you're too close to it ¤Make sure your vehicle density is set to 1 until you're outside of the wanted area ¤Don't bother hailing the cab after getting out at Packie's house, it will despawn after the cutscene

United StatesKyle9 years ago

The left route is, at most, a few seconds slower than the right. It's a bit more complicated as well.

The right route is, at most, a few seconds faster than the left. It's also an easier drive.

The Pay n Spray route is easy, but risky. Cops might see you entering the Pay n Spray and/or there might not be a cab nearby after exiting. It's also slower than the both the left and right route with quick/average escapes and quick/average cab spawns.

The right route with a quick/average wanted escape and a cab spawn nearby or along the route is your best option. Just make sure to properly shoot down the helicopter so it blows up on impact (drops your wanted level to two stars) and to not set your vehicle density to 100 until you lose the cops.

How you should time your kill on the heli pilot to pretty much guarantee it blows up on impact:

If you follow the route to the meetup point, as seen in these videos, but get too far ahead near the end, you risk losing Bell. The best advice is to simply slow down a little bit and to stick to the left side of the road, which is the oncoming lanes, which would be after the 1:15 mark in the video. You can see that I did the exact opposite, and it failed.

¤Kill Frankie because he's slower than Bell at getting to the van ¤If the heli doesn't explode on impact, you won't drop to two stars ¤Blowing up the heli with a rocket or grenade will not drop your wanted level to two stars ¤It's possible to see Bell's blip stop moving. What's happened is that he has warped out of his car and his car is still driving along the route he normally takes. This doesn't cause any issues other than not being able to see where his car is at. If you're worried about getting too far ahead, just follow the explanation stated above and you'll be fine ¤While waiting for Bell, always wait where I sit in the videos

This is actually quite tricky if you don't know what you're doing. The call doesn't need answered, so ignore it. Time the hang up as seen and you'll be fine. If you hang up too early, the call will come in while outside the the cab and it will almost always screw you out of getting back in before it pulls off.

The only time you'd ever use a faster vehicle during this mission is if there's something directly behind your cab after the trip skip. If you were to do this, never get too far ahead of the heli or it will slow down. The video shows exactly how to pace yourself if in a fast vehicle. If you're in a cab (99% of the time), there's no need to worry about outrunning the heli. Never slow down, unless you're going to wreck, and follow the route.

Timings (cutscene skip to heli touchdown, before stealing): Taxis (van, two cars): no crashes, no tunnel - 1:47 Comet: no crashes, no tunnel - 1:38

You'd come upon the tunnel if you continued going straight instead of crossing over the sidewalk at the end of the freeway. In my timings, I found I lost a couple seconds by using the tunnel, so avoid it.

These are things which haven't been tried on the two endings: ¤(Out of Commission) Failing the date once you've triggered Pegorino's marker, as well as at multiple points after reaching this point, WITHOUT loading the mission with the trainer ¤(A Revenger's Tragedy) Failing the date once you've triggered Pegorino's/Dimitri's marker, as well as at multiple points after reaching this point ¤(Wedding) Taking Kate and "date Kate" to the wedding marker, picking up Kate and then picking up "date Kate", picking up "date Kate" and then Kate, taking any other possible girlfriend to the wedding during both ending's weddings

I've tried the first ¤ after loading the mission through the trainer and failed the date at multiple points up until grabbing onto the helicopter, and it soft-locked every time. I'm assuming there'll be no difference if it's done without the trainer, but will still try. Also assuming there will be no difference if the same thing is done only with the deal ending (all fails occurred after reaching the shootout).

Have yet to try the date fail at the start of the actual deal mission (with Phil) WITHOUT loading the mission with the trainer, but will. It would have to somehow pass the mission early on, otherwise it won't be worth doing.

Here's two videos showing what happens if you fail the date just after the chase begins during each of the endings (spoiler: nothing useful was found) The setup for the deal ending is exactly like what happens in the other video, so it's not included (everything you see can be done without the trainer):
