When streaming/recording a run you must be able to capture the window to show what emulator is being used. BizHawk is able to display the status bar below the game window. That must be displayed. DuckStation will has specific requirements below. You are able to run without showing the window. You must also state what emulator is being used when submitting your run.

Accepted Emulators:

Accepted Emulator on Mac:

BizHawk Setup: Games can only run under the cue format.

  • Config > Speed/Skip > Audio Throttle If you're using the Octoshock core
  • PSX > Options
  • Select either mednafen mode option To verify that you are running with Audio Throttle enabled you must hit the increase/decrease speed keys [plus/minus] it will display a message on screen.

DuckStation Dedicated Rules: You must be using the NoGUI version, that means a keybind for Quick Menu is required. These settings can be set in the Qt version of DuckStation. You must show settings of the core settings before/after the run. Your settings must match this: Interface Menu (NoGUI Setting)

  • Pause On Menu: Disabled BIOS Settings
  • Fast Boot: Disabled Console Settings
  • 8MB RAM: Disabled
  • CPU Emulation - Execution Mode: Interpreter (Slowest)
  • No change in Clock Speed
  • CD-ROM Emulation to remain on defaults
  • Async Readahead: Disabled (Synchronous)
  • Read/Seek speedump set to None (Normal Speed)
  • Preload Image to RAM: Disabled

NOTE: All existing runs done on different emulators will be grandfathered in and will not be removed from the leaderboards.

If you have any questions or need help setting anything up, feel free to join the community Discord server linked above.

Hey, I recently acquired mod status for this game, so I can address your post and fix up some stuff on the leaderboards.

-I am okay with leaving "Campaign" as an IL category because it would perfectly match how each zone is played in a full-game run and would be an excellent reference for anybody learning the game. The extra zones past Zone 9 can have blanked out IL times for this category. I'm not married to this, though, and if nobody is going to use this category, I might as well delete it.

-For the other IL categories, I think it makes sense to have a "Max Boost" category, which is what it looks like the current "Zone Play" category is set up as. I can adjust the category name to more accurately reflect what it actually is.

-"Boost Level 1" is an interesting idea for an IL category, but I don't really want to just have another empty IL board. If you or another runner does some Level 1 ILs, I will happily add it at that time.

-For the main categories, I am fine with leaving them separated as Any% and Hard Mode. I don't think they need to be put into sub-categories - I moderate several other PS1 games with different game modes and that is the leaderboard structure I use for those.

I'm open to feedback on any of these items - the community around this game is exceptionally small, so nothing should require a ton of discussion. Now that the game has an active mod, I can more easily make a bunch of changes. Feel free to contact me on Discord to get in touch more easily regarding the game. I will make a server for this game to make discussion a little easier.

I'd like to request mod/supermod for Omega Boost (https://www.speedrun.com/omega_boost). I am one of the few runners of the game that is active on this site, and the 2 existing moderators have not logged on in 5 months and 2 years, respectively; the one moderator who has a Twitter account linked has also not used that in over 2 years. There was someone who was added as a moderator a few months ago (Evertrn), but he was removed/stepped down for some reason. There are several requests pending in the game's forums regarding updating the rules/IL leaderboard structure as well that I would like to be able to address. Thank you.

I can time the loads from Caveman's run and add them to that spreadsheet as well. I'm fairly confident he played his run on a 90k, which will be a good reference. My runs are all done on a 90k too, and that room in Witch Way Woods is extremely laggy, as are a number of other areas. Timing out all the time lost from lag will likely be impossible, but from the few runs I've done, it doesn't seem like emulator saves back all the loading screen losses with lag.

I wanted to see how much time FDS saves over emulator in this game (for Any% specifically) so I went ahead and frame-counted the loads from my recent PB (31:32) and Leo's WR (28:57) and compiled my findings into this spreadsheet as a reference for everyone else:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Twhx62ygwvWrEYaXHRLcnf8GK0dr_yZF1Y3P0k_sOf0

Oddly enough, a couple loads are slightly faster on emulator, but for the most part FDS is superior and ends up saving ~25 seconds over the course of the run.

UPDATE: I have also timed out the loads from Caveman's PB (29:43) vs. my 31:32 to compare the loading times for Ruff vs. Tumble and have updated the above link with a spreadsheet that also shows this (on a separate tab). I found that the load times for Ruff were only ~1 second faster. However, the video quality of Caveman's PB is quite poor, making it difficult to discern the correct reference frames at the start/end of loads. A number of loads, when compared to mine, differed by only a frame or 2 in either direction, so I can fairly confidently say that character choice does not significantly impact loading times.

Yeah, No OoB just makes the game far less fun/interesting and pretty much nobody would run it over the other main/misc categories. You can always not learn certain strats to start out with and slowly incorporate them over time. It will make the game much more manageable to learn and make you far less frustrated early on.
