Space Botany runs All Modules Impossible Glitchless. He attempts the two main cutscene skips but it's not really possible to skip anything else without missing out on modules.

In my opinion it's the best category for the game and one of the most entertaining to watch. Something along those lines would be cool. Not sure about all emails since they're basically just flavor and don't affect gameplay, but All Modules is as close to "100%" as you can get really.

Thing is we aren't able to see how it's going to look until someone submits a run. That's a problem with SRC's API. It's also the reason that people couldn't see the rules were there when they clicked on "view rules" right after the API update. They were there, and we could view and change them, but it was just a blank white screen for people. So we will figure all that stuff out once we've got times on the board.

Not to continue this off-topic tangent, but the reason the no-moving-items rule was implemented for NG+ was that at the time the rules were formulated, the consensus of the community was that IGT was a superior timing method to RTA since it removes load times, fps limitations, console differences, etc. But since single segment IGT is invalid if you can menu to your heart's content, the compromise was made to disallow menuing for NG+. Since menuing is an integral part of NG runs, we use RTA. The point is that the community came to a consensus 4 months ago that the game should be run a certain way. We're not going to have a quarterly rule change because certain people disagree with the rules or find them unfair for their particular circumstances. The rules are staying the way they are for the indefinite future. I hope that is clear now.

As far as this whole variable thing goes, if it encouraged Fatel to run the game there's no harm in adding it, since it literally does not affect you at all. If you don't click on the drag down menu and filter it you wouldn't even see it. If I hadn't posted and said that I added it, you wouldn't have even noticed it was there. If he's not going to run the game(and I wouldn't blame him because this is what he has to put up with for expressing his opinion), or if it is clear that no one else wants to run without IA, then I'll just remove it. It's not a big deal at all.

I don't see what the issue is at all, the only thing I did was add a single variable that allows viewers to sort by infinite ammo on one miscellaneous category. Nobody has even run it yet and it can be changed at any moment. We can split it into NG and NG+, or not. The community needs to decide its level of involvement. I didn't change any "rules" as you say, FoggyTV, I'm not forcing infinite ammo one way or the other, nor does the board layout dictate rules. Just do whatever you want within the confines of the current rules. I haven't expressed any sort of opinion in favor of one or the other because honestly I don't have one, but if it gets people running the game, it's a good thing. Yet time and time again this community goes out of its way to conduct forum wars against one another and dissuade players from participating in and enjoying RE5 speedrunning. So if you think that these tiny layout changes are worth driving people away from the game, by all means, keep banging your head against the brick wall.

Very nice. Actually shorter than I was expecting it to be. The co-op route could be very interesting to route as well.

California, USAJakePlisskenSDA8 years ago

Also the variable was only added for 100%, so NG+ runs on the main board will be unaffected.

California, USAJakePlisskenSDA8 years ago

Yep, I run any% but haven't streamed it/posted a PB yet. Waiting for sub 14 in practice before I think I'll feel confident enough since it's so fast paced. I'm also trying to learn Space Botany's All Modules glitchless impossible route.

The steam version works for me, straight from digital download. Even runs well in HD. But as always your results may vary. I don't have any experience with the GoG version.

Hi sampletext, welcome to the board.

It sounds like you want to run NG solo or NG+ solo (using the AI partner). I don't really know too much about solo runs, but I think I can offer some general advice elsewhere.

For the most part, you don't actually need to know the location of everything in the game. It might come in handy for improvising in one out of a hundred runs, but for most part the game is static enough that you'll be doing more or less the same thing every time. On Amateur, the Majini are really slow and much less aggressive. On top of that, the game makes it much harder for them to grab you, especially while moving. Most of the time you're just going to be running straight through the game and only stopping to shoot troublesome enemies. In NG+ you don't pick up any treasure or weapons at all. In NG, the only weapon pickup you absolutely need is the rocket launcher in 3-1, since it unlocks future rocket launcher purchases in the store. It's possible to do the entire game with unupgraded berettas with almost no difficulty if you're using rockets for the bosses.

As far as 1-1 goes, any manipulation of the executioner is going to be pretty hard without another human player to control Sheva. I've gotten pretty consistent executioners with one person inside the house and one outside and way back in a corner. Just to be clear, the entire section is timed from the moment the executioner knocks down the gate. From then it's just a timer ticking down to the level ending and there's nothing you can do to speed it up. That's why a fast executioner is the main factor in getting a fast 1-1.

California, USAJakePlisskenSDA8 years ago

@FoggyTV Thanks for that, I ran into that bug on a practice run once. I didn't know it happened consistently. Never actually thought about it though since there's really no reason not to shoot the guy who drops the cage before you actually get there and skip that section. I would hope that most people know about that and do it since it's basically a free timesave, but I'll check out the mod too.

California, USAJakePlisskenSDA8 years ago

Timer manipulation does not relate to the RTA timer, it's manipulating the in-game timer by pause buffering, b-door reset spamming, pause spamming, etc. Please refrain from critiquing a rule if you don't even understand the mechanics involved.

Furthermore, I'm not trying to be the bad cop here. We've had some really bad cops in this board before. Some say that those corrupt old cops were altering the posts of people with whom they disagreed. Can you imagine!

Before the change of mods the board was a mess of competing egos and toxic nonsense. Now the quality of runs has improved immensely, we finally have a concrete set of rules which is not open to interpretation, and there is much less pointless forum drama. But you know, sometimes that stench of rotten eggs lingers quite a bit longer than anticipated. So if I have to be the "uptight policeman," so be it, the community will be better because of it.

Rules are staying exactly as they are. We have 4 categories with 4 difficulties each plus IL's, all of which must necessarily have separate rules. On top of that there's lots of sketchy shit like timer manip, segmented vs non-segmented, and patch differences for which our rules need to be absolutely non-ambiguous. I haven't had to reject a single run for rule breaking yet so it seems that everyone who has submitted is more than capable of reading the rules and the 3 or 4 bullet points for their category and follow them.

Use a control scheme that you are comfortable with. Make sure your run key is on something which is easy to reach and remember since you will literally be running the entire game. Practice reloading using the menu and get into the habit of checking your inventory every time you're on a ladder or in a similar animation.

If you are running NG+, your inventory will be the same every time you run the game, so set up your items in a configuration that feels right. If you are running NG, try to develop a system for organizing the things you pick up so you can use your hotkey to quickly grab what you want. Also, keep your inventory consistent between runs. What I mean is that you should always keep the same items in the same places. This will minimize inventory mistakes over the course of many runs.

Lastly just take a glance over the rules and make sure you're doing everything by the book, and have fun with it!

If there is going to be a 100% category, it definitely has to be miscellaneous because of how the definition of 100% is so arbitrary for this game, and I don't see that many people who would want to run it. There is no completion counter but the game has a ton of unlockables that don't have anything to do with gameplay. I even think that the emblem requirement is arbitrary since all the emblems do is unlock cosmetic costumes. The only thing that makes them relevant to a possible 100% category is that they can be easily tracked. On the other hand, treasure is not, and there's no way of knowing if you got everything especially since you'd be spending it along the way, unless you made some sort of counter. Minigames have nothing to do with the main game so those unlockables are out, and obviously playing multiple difficulties to get the filters would just be ridiculous. I don't have any skin in the game since I definitely won't be running the category, but as long as the run is fun to play/fun to watch I wouldn't have any problem with it.

I second the notion that this board desperately needs the addition of several new competent mods. Dchaps and Sephjul haven't been online in months, have never posted to the forums, and have never even run this game. Zenix and Auddy were the only mods who put forth reasonable opinions and they're both gone now. I know you're trying your best Snow, but when it takes this long to verify a single NG+ run and IL runs are taking multiple days to verify, the situation is out of hand, especially with a community of this size. So for your sake and ours, let some of us take the load off of your back since you're literally the only one running this thing right now.
