Sorry for the inconvenience I am only semi-active anymore when it comes to speedrunning so I kinda missed the whole situation. I didn't know DBcade accepted a run on that emulator, but from what I remember about why the Digimon community is so persistent about ePSXe 1.9.0 to be used:

ePSXe 1.9.0 is 1) slower than PS2 FDS and 2) proven to be consistent with it on all PC systems it runs on

Those are the conditions in order to bring new emulators into the mix and it needs to be proven by testing it across different machines. From what I saw psX v. 1.13 seems to be partly slower than FDS but when I checked the most "recent" (again, I aplogize for not being as active anymore) run of Yukami_42day the first loading screen of the run appeared to be slightly faster than the one in the WR by JMiX__ done on PS2. This brings me to the conclusion that psX v1.13 produces loading time results which vary between different hardware specs and therefore this emulator can not be accepted as it might end up being faster than legitimate hardware in some scenarios which should never be the case.

Therefore I will reject runs now which have been performed on said emulator.

Sorry for the inconvenience again, I hope this clears things up and why we insist on ePSXe 1.9.0, feel free to keep discussing and if you want to have another emulator be allowed then you somehow need to find a way to prove that it meets the two requirements mentioned above.

WeaponLord doesn't seem to be active anymore but if anybody ever reads this and is interested in the Sega Master System version, I decided that it is too different from the SNES / Genesis version of the game and can't be compared. So the Sega Master System version has it's own leaderboard now, moderated by Radioactive_Man who runs the mentioned version. You can find the leaderboard here: https://www.speedrun.com/dragon_the_bruce_lee_story_master_system

Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, GermanyHdot123 years ago

I have to point out that the leaderboard requires you to have it played in one go though. (Real-Time Attack) If it was a segmented run then it doesn't fit the requirements for the leaderboard. If it was a full run played in one go but it has several videos which show the full run if you would combine them then that's fine.

Hello Mrmonsh!

Yes, it is pretty important that you play on ePSXe v 1.9.0 because all other versions can vary in loading times and in a worst case scenario end up faster than console loading times what we consider invalid because nothing can be legit which is faster than the original console.

Either way, 1.9.0 is the only version we found to be consistent so in order to have your run verified you should run on that version.

you just need to press start often. sometimes your inputs get eaten so just try again and keep pressing start after your opponent got KO'd

It depends on the category you run and also your deck. You need to save in between if you can't be sure to actually beat the high mages. If you are unsure of beating them you can also decide if you want to do easy mages first like ocean or mountain or hard mages like meadow or forest.

If we would be talking of New Game+ or any other scenario in wich you wouldn't save between the mages then the fastest order would be ocean -> mountain -> meadow -> forest -> desert

I can't really tell, I'm not into contact with him that much. I think he had his account deleted some time already but came back eventually. If it's gonna happen again, no clue. I can vouch for him that his runs were legit, however having top times without video evidence now is a really difficult situation for the leaderboard of course. For that reason alone I would never remove the speedrun videos I uploaded, ever. But who knows what might have been the reason for that.

Try out Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories. A speedrun can barely have more RNG than that. It begins with resetting for a good starting deck, then you need to farm for good cards which have drop rates of about 1 or 2% per duel (varies per card) and even with a good deck you can still lose very easily at the end of the game if you get bad RNG in terms of your opponent drawing a Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon which you can't beat most of the time. Speedrun times for any% range from 3 hours to 24+ hours and that alone shows how much RNG is involved. It is the biggest RNG speedrun, that is my personal opinion but I could even go that far to say that it is a fact. (Feel free to prove me wrong)

...

Guess I need to take that opportunity to also advertise another beloved speedgame of mine which is Digimon World 3. It pretty much plays like an RPG so you have the normal RNG elements like Random encounters, CRITs (which seem very rigged in that game), evasion and training for stats can fail depending on RNG. Plus, in order to use the speedrun strats you need to drop a certain accessory from an enemy which has a drop rate of 6.25% (plus another one in the beginning which is mandatory for story progression, that one is 18.75%) So this game is (obivously) not as RNG heavy as Yu-Gi-Oh! FM but it's still a hell of an RNG fest, especially when you want to go for a good time. It is 7 hours plus though, so you need some spare time for that.

Hey you all! It is nice to see how many people like to speedrun this game and that still up to today new runs are submitted. However, I gotta clear something up now.

I would really like to not be a moderator of this game anymore. I simply don't really care for the game as a speedgame anymore and since I never was into competitive Brawlhalla or anything, it has become quite stale for me and verifying runs is more of an annoyance than fun to me. This is not a fair situation towards the game, leaderboards and the runners who are having actual fun during runs.

The fact that I never submitted another time after the big rule change. which invalidated my best times, also shows that I am not that much interested in the game anymore. I also never really planned to be a mod of this game, at some point I just got added because I had the top time on the leaderboards at that time (believe it or not).

Anyway, I would like to find a way to assign mod to somebody new. It should be more than one user for sure, so that everything stays nice and healthy since only leaving one single person as a mod could end up very badly. Another idea would have been to just leave ThStardust alone with the game, but since he was gone for several months already, I should just declare some new mods in order to prevent leaderboards with dead moderation.

Long story short, if you want to moderate this leaderboard, please write a post in this thread explaining in detail why it should be you and how you are gonna work towards a neat and tidy leaderboard. After some time I will decide for some users to be the new moderators. Decision will be made after some time with some deciding methods which I have not decided on yet. (LUL)

So yeah, hope you understand, apply for mod, etc. Peace out!

Look for an online shop called Lukie games. Only ordered a few PS1 discs there so far but those were all in a good condition.

I'd say no, since pausing is an optional decision of the player. It could also lead to some pause-buffer related tricks which might make hard sections easier.

It seems that I might have an unpopular opinion.

I'd suggest to just focus on the game. Create a good game and it will attract runners. You definetely should not try to make it "perfect" for speedrunning, because working around features which make the game less "speedrunnable" is part of the challenge to me. This also includes RNG. (Sure no need to make an RNGfest out of it but I would refrain from removing minor RNG related things, like AI movement). As such I am strictly against the speedrun mode.

For cutscenes, I personally don't mind to mash trough dialogue or wait for cutscenes to play out, however unskippable cutscenes are a good thing in general. (Unless the run takes like longer than 4 hours, than unskippable cutscenes can be quite a relief).

Also no need to include a timer in my opinion, since we will most likely just go by RTA timing anyway. Unless there might be differences on loading times for different systems with different specs. In that case, a ingame timer which does not take loading times into account can be really helpful. As long as it is accurate like the above users mentioned. A frame perfect timer without loading times would be perfect and in that case we might actually use the ingame time for the leaderboards. The leaderboards which we will create ourselves. We will keep track of our times, so definetely no need to create an ingame leaderboard, for the reasons which were mentioned above.

Technically you don't ever need a timer for a run. Leaderboards which require a timer don't make sense to me. As long as the video is not missing any footage you can calculate the run time in an exact way and without much effort. A timer also does not add a tiny bit to legitimacy since you can just prerecord some stuff and always add the timer to the video afterwards.

"speedrun rhythm games" smh. When is the official side scroller marathon?

Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, GermanyHdot125 years ago

So PSXFin actually is a good option for running? For the PSX games I ran so far, PSXFin was awfully inaccurate in most cases.. But, well, if there are no rules basically I might just roll with that. Afterall I need to switch to console anyway at some point to get good times.

Not using speedups is common sense, yeah. Did not plan on modding anything, I also really like the game soundtrack, wouldn't mind to listen to that for a full run.

Anyway thank you two for the responses! Hope that I will have a free and quite day soon to try out running the game.

Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, GermanyHdot125 years ago

Hello, dear runners! hope you don't get annoyed if I ask another question on PSX emulators.

to make it short: which one should I use? I know that some versions of ePSXe for example might give me some better loading times than Mednafen. (obviously not better than PS2 FDS, though) So would it be fine to run with that or do I need an emulator that emulates an exact PS1? (and it's terrible loading times)

hope someone can help me, since nobody even submit a run on emulator yet.

Before you guys ask, I don't really plan on playing the PC version. I want to start out on emulator and if I enjoy this run a lot and get better at it, then I would buy myself an NTSC copy of the game for ps2. It is just how I know the game, so I won't get myself the PC version probably.

Thanks for your help!

Which games? I know for example that it is possible for snes games by running two emulators (snes9x) at the same time, having the same input for both and unchecking the "Pause when I active" Option. Still we would need to Know which games you are referring to

I guess sleeping or gambling are the fastest ways to earn money. For what's faster - no clue. However my All Trophy run puts 100k into the bank and then sleeps for a really long time so you can check that part of the run to see how long it takes to aquire a lot by sleeping. Then maybe record a gambling section of yours and decide for yourself what you want to use.

wątek: Stick RPG 2

I can see your point, however I wonder how you come up with a span of 7 to 15 secs. I am currently looking at the leaderboard and Happy seems to have the fastest machine, his screen is fully loaded at ~8 seconds while the longest loading time is not even 11 seconds on Biglaw's machine. Your run also has a loading time of less than 10 seconds and if there is nothing wrong with your system you should get the same loading time consistently.

I am also thinking of console games as a comparision where the fastest system always wins (different Ps2 versions for example) and this is in runs where it comes down to several minutes of loading time difference, while we are speaking of 3 seconds at most here. Same for PC games if they are not ranked by "time without loads". I don't really want to make any changes when they are not necassarily needed.

It is also a bit complicated because we are already "in the game" when we can make the choice at Tutorial Ted. I have no clue how the RNG of the game works, but it might be affected by how long you wait until you confirm the Tutorial Ted text box. While it should be consistent from skipping the story on. (Again, this is just an assumption, I don't know how the RNG seed advances in this game, even though I would love to find out.)

Just because this is my opinion, it is not set in stone though. Feel free to discuss. In the end I might agree that your proposed timing method makes more sense. I would also like to hear more opinions about this, so anyone who is reading this, please state your opinion, regardless if you ran the game already or not.

Sorry for the inconvenience, but I would like to discuss and think about it first before taking a decision too quickly. In any case, thank you for bringing this up, antech!

This is a good question actually, because the speedgame I was the most passionate about so far is over 7 hours and you really get hungry, especially if it takes another hour or two to get an attempt going.

I ate pretty much everything so far during those runs. Fish Sticks turned out to be quite comfortable. You can even cut them into pieces with just a fork and eat such a piece rather quickly, even during a 2 secs loading screen.

If I am good on money I just order Pizza, but bear in mind to choose one which hasn't too many "soft" ingredients on it because you don't want to mess with a pizza slice which has fallen into a dozen pieces during a run.

For drinks, energy drinks are needed to stay alert. Coffee is no good idea, because it will make you need to pee too early.

For sweets, everything Haribo created is a good idea. Chocolate etc. Probably not such a good idea.
