We are working on some things but these maps will also be accessible in 2.0
This would involve using an external timing software which we have already ruled against due to vr not having any trustworthy built in softwares for timing. If something like this happens to release I’ll keep this in mind.
This is a possibility, I’m not sure how I feel about having the players physically add up their own times because it can cause some issues on the verification side along with editing everything together. I’ll keep this in mind if it’s something the community wants.
When we had the category it was at first something fun and more non competitive runners tried to get records. As time went on the no items runners started over taking the grapplers only category to the point where grapplers just slow you down. I’m sure there are routes on some maps that lead to faster grappler times but currently I have the idea that it wouldn’t be enough of a difference in gameplay. For example, in outpost I believe the optimal route would only use one or two small instances in grappling and the rest would just be a no items run. If no items is faster than no items runners could just submit their runs there and it would overtake any grappler users.
If I see proof that for certain maps grapplers only is worth becoming a category and it is more optimal and faster along with various people wanting grapplers only than I’ll debate it’s return with some staff and higher up on leaderboard runners. If it were to return I would make it into either a category for only certain maps or a sub category for any gadgets% where you have the choice for grapplers only. I remember at the time of it being taken off, the record was slower in comparison to the no items records and we gave it time. You may contact me via discord or through speedrun.com if there is a clear reason for any map that would lead to it being worth coming back or if a number of people want it to return.
On a side note, the website is still currently active with verification and various runs are posted throughout every couple days so if it were to become even more active to how it once was than I would like to expand sub categories for all the maps which could also eventually include grapplers only along with the old runs being reposted as for now they are archived and we still have access.
