Can something be done about notifications? Some are on just one row, others are on two rows, and it's a bit hard to read them tbh. Maybe a line between each notification?
- The "search" window doesn't seem to work all the time, don't know why.
- When you click directly on a time in IL table, it redirects you to "undefined".
- Horrible spacing in "edit game" page and many other places, especially if it's time in HHMMSS format with (in-game time). Check my profile of full-runs and you'll see what I mean :)
- I have 2 notifications and have no idea how to get rid of it. Previously I just had to open notifications and the number disappeared.
- http://www.speedrun.com/nfsprostreet - seems like if you use low resolution and the game page has a lot of variables, the variables at the end will be completely off the form.
There's no need for new mods. Maybe if there's more runs.
Driver's IGT and game speed depends on your current framerate, that's why ZhouTai's real time is almost twice as long as his actual IGT - fps issues with PS version. It's a bit stupid, because there might be some differences amongst different hardware, but since IGT doesn't include cutscenes, hotel, menuing and other stuff, you should count time without loads, as per SDA rules. That's the primary timer for all segmented runs if IGT cannot be used.
Oh, you're speedrunning on laptop. According to specs, it only has 3GB RAM, so I'm pretty sure you ran out of physical memory, which was replaced by your pagefile stored on your HDD, so that's why it was actually slower with ramdisk.
There's one thing that can have a huge effect on your loading times: Graphics setting
Lower resolution, textures or shaders means less data needs to be transfered.
Segmented runs should count everything but loading screens, but the time was just taken over from SDA, so it's possible it's not entirely true for Driver. What you see in "Real time" is actually "Time without loads". I was planning to correct this, but didn't get to it yet.
IGT should be correct for both runs, unless I made a mistake. It was a really painstaking job to time it :) It only counts the timer, like in IL runs.
Because most speedruns here use RTA method of timing (real time attack). Using time without loads without auto-splitter means manually timing every run, which is quite a lot of work.
If your loading times are really that bad, but you have enough RAM, you can use Ramdisk like this one:
Specifically in Driver 1, it has been proven that ePSX is faster than the real HW. Mednafen/Xebra seems to be fine.
Also, didn't you say 2 days ago it helped you by a couple seconds? :)
QuarantineTarantula: Yeah, I'm sometimes lazy and it takes me couple days to verify. If I may suggest, please don't submit every improved run you do, especially if it's just a couple seconds faster and you know you can do better in future. It's an extra unnecessary work for mods.
The only thing I can think of about your ramdisk issue is that you don't have enough actual physical RAM and you substitute it with large pagefile on your physical HDD, which in the end makes your pc run even slower :) What is your PC?
I have just tested steam version of SS2 and the spawn bug with high fps seems to be no longer present and as a bonus, the shortcut in CC works :)
So I'm removing the fps lock from rules.
From my experience, the biggest difference is HDD vs SSD. Your PC won't matter that much in such old game like Postal 2.
"Fake HDD" is called Ramdisk and you can download one here for free: https://www.softperfect.com/products/ramdisk/
The idea is to create a virtual hdd from your RAM, which you can then use as any storage until you disable it or restart your PC. You copy your game there and the game is basically loaded from one space of your RAM to another one, and since RAM is faster than any storage device, the speed boost is huge. Ramdisk also doesn't suffer from inconsistent speeds. EG: Loading time is always 5 seconds with Ramdisk and anything between 6-7 seconds with HDD or SSD.
I haven't tried it myself yet, but Postal 2 complete on Steam is 7.5 GBs, which is a problem if you have less than 12GB RAM. Paradise Lost is 2.8 GBs, so that's 4.7 GBs, which should be doable with 8GB RAM. You'll probably have to get a cracked steam version, though :)
Retail Postal 2 version is just 1.4 GBs, but that one has a really long loading screens and you can't skip the speeches Postal dude makes when he pisses a group.
I'm not sure this game has such thing as 100% completion.
Ugh, I'm not sure I understand you. Do you want to run "100%"?
You can record Driver with Fraps/Dxtory just fine. I did that 9 years ago and had 0 issues.
Nobody is going to do SS with glitches because of the gimp skip.
The only thing we might consider is variable "SS/no SS", but I don't really understand why do you want to use IGT. If you have long loading times, just use ramdisk ;)
Personally, I would make it a subcategory, not a main category.
