Yup rules is rules, it was a slight oversight we forgot to mention to the new host, but one we accept even though it offered no advantage.
We intend to run again on the 18th October all being well to reclaim the WR with an even faster time ;) Everyone should come and join and see if we can smash sub 1hour ;)
If enough people run and want to submit a time for them they will be considered for inclusion via vote. It usually takes at least 2 different submissions to open a vote for the proposed category if I'm not mistaken.

Wow this sounds cool.
Splitting on research is pretty cool, coupled with when rocket is launched/victory screen, covers Any% quite nicely and might force me to use use more 'conventional' splits.
If you have a version that supports this ready I'd be happy to take on a few test runs to see how it handles it :)
I will endeavour to get a full run done myself, regardless of time to further the WD cause :)

I tried Wave Defense the other day for the first time off the back of the conversation in Discord.
It was immensely fun, if a little scary at first not knowing how strong the biters would be, if i'd need to attack or just build.
First run i lasted about 40minutes before the biters had me, second run i got over an hour and much more built and was actually feeding the silo, but painfully slow! (RCU's are awful! :D)
I've since watched Splee's best run and i can see how i had the right ideas, just not the scale and refined techniques you need to use to keep everything ticking over.
The grenade setup and pushing biter bases to keep them away for much longer spells of time seems key.
I'm certainly going to try this one again to get a time that could be posted to speedrun.com to aid in the cause of making it an extended category, it was a refreshing change and fun to boot!
Ahh ok, that makes sense, however in that case how to do verify the time, watch the replay and acurately track the start and stop times or is there an easier way?

Hi, I'm looking to start trying my hand at speed running soon, i'll be going for the Single Player Any% category. In regards to map, is it considered ok to use the map seed Nefrums used to reach the WR and practice my runs there - will that seed set everything correctly or do i need to tweak any additional settings?
Also, in regards to LiveSplit - i've got the program but what's the best way of setting the Splits from Speedrun.com, is there a recommended list or user to use for splits or is it personal preference / setup with the rocket launch always being last? As i understand it, the time is real time and not ingame time so i want to be sure i have a clear way of seeing this to keep myself on track and the record attempts valid.
I've been inspired partly by watching Anti and Nefrums doing the current sub 1hr multiplayer run and notice a distinct lack of UK players on the leaderboard and want to fix that, even if i'm not the fastest (to begin with) :)
Any tips or additional info welcome, i'm excited to give this a go :)
