We don't require a timer to be present in the video. We will correct the time when verifying the run.
Timing is RTA-TB.
You can time it IGT for your own purposes, but on the board it will be the RTA-TB time.
It's not a configuration issue, you are using the E rom which is the PAL rom, you need to use either a U or J rom, and retroarch will run it at the correct speed.
@LightRuns69 The game rules will tell you the answer - Go to the leaderboard click "Show Rules" then "Game Rules".
Here's the relevant portion:
Emulator Rules The following unofficial emulators are allowed: Kega Fusion 3.64, Genesis Plus GX (standalone or through Retroarch.) Links to these emulators can be found in the Resources tab. The emulator must run at full speed.
It is strongly recommended that the emulator used is adequately identifiable at some point during the run (preferably at the start). Your run may be rejected if the emulator cannot be identified from the video and is suspected of not being ran on a valid emulator and/or core.
Examples Fusion (only 1 needed) FPS Visible in the bottom of the window. Text in the bottom right either showing: Soft Reset Hard Reset x Startup (where x is either "Genesis", "MegaCD" or "Master System") Retroarch Showing the Retroarch Menu that displays the Genesis Plus GX core and version in the bottom left. If not shown at the start of the run, please provide a timestamp in the run description of where this is shown.
I'm not sure I see the point in the decomp being allowed for the vanilla game. For S1 and S2, it brought it to pc without needing to use an Android emulator. But mania is already available on PC, so that benefit doesn't exist.
Am I missing something?
We answered this in the S3K forum: https://www.speedrun.com/s3k/thread/10vuu
Generally, Retroarch provides the short commit hash at the end of the version number. e.g. like this:
Can you show a screenshot of OpenEmu showing the version?
Mega Collection is fine on original hardware, but emulation is not - you might as well emulate the genesis, rather than emulating an emulator (which is what mega collection is).
This is what I said in a recent rejection which has a video showcasing our reasoning:
Bizhawk isn't allowed, only valid emulators are Fusion, or GPGX either standalone (e.g. on a wii or GameCube), or via Retroarch. This is because Bizhawk has TASing and scripting abilities. is a good example that Chrezm made for April Fools a few years back that uses the common requirements that boards have for Bizhawk to prove it's not a TAS, but uses Bizhawk's scripting to assist the run in a rather extreme way, cementing our decision to not allow bizhawk.
IGT isn't used for runs (as there are many things IGT doesn't count in the runs). So if you want to do it, you'd need to edit the autosplitter to use the IGT instead.
You can submit Glitchless runs to the Level leaderboards. We just don't separate them out, as there would be many empty boards for glitched.
Why do people like catching me out when I only have access on my phone?
It's obviously false that nobody wants to record flaps, as this very thread was created because someone wants to record flaps.
Nice splitting hairs. Are you always this pedantic about people's wording? Of course I was excluding you in that because it's obvious you started this thread.
The game's developers believed that enough potential customers would be interested in flaps that they spent development resources implementing a feature to report individual lap times.
But yet never implemented a record of the fastest lap time, only top 3 race times, funny that.
Note that, for example, at least 78 people submitted AL flap times to The Sonic Center between 2003 and 2016: https://www.soniccenter.org/rankings/sonic_3/time_attack/azure_lake/single_lap . That's a significant desire to record and compete in the flap category!
So 78 in ~13 years, if my maths is correct that's about 1 every 2 months, for what is essentially an honour system where people could just submit a time without video proof, many don't even have image proof. Also, no sign of werster on those boards either? I wonder why! Could it be he got banned for cheating and ban evading maybe. Also quite a few in the community believe that his classic sonic videos over the past few years have been TASes for entertainment purposes, rather than done in real time.
It's hardly persuasive to claim support from "a few runners" -- who for whatever reason can't be bothered to publicly express their opinion (much less actually play the game!) -- confirming your personal bias that SR.C "isn't the place" to record flaps because they are "so short".
And in a similar vein, people don't seem to be rushing to publicly support the request here for flaps.
As I said previously, feel free to create a Google sheet if you want to start tracking it, which you could have spent time doing rather than writing an essay response in a "well, actually" fashion.
It's only playable in time attack in a test build. Once it's available in a verified preview/stable build it can be added.
Correct me if I'm wrong but it's just a skin for Knuckles and no gameplay mechanics are changed, if so then it won't be accepted, as mods need to put a unique spin on the speedrun to be considered.
"It still would not make any difference." You sure? werster's run doesn't hit any asteroids on the way to the first phase of the boss, but you're still there much sooner, and 2nd phase in origins you can re-hit the boss a lot faster than you can in S3K. https://viewsync.net/watch?v=qSmagpaY8qU&t=0&v=yzhDO83bSY0&t=1&mode=solo
oh, so not even valid for this game, cool. https://www.speedrun.com/s3k/news/1967
