I was playing each frame one by one because I was thinking about doing a charity thing soon, and I noticed something that makes no sense for a legitimate run. At 2:54 he walks up to the spikes and one frame later turns around (totally plausable) but he then triggers an encounter. Nothing strange there, until he walks for 5 frames after the encounter (which isn't a thing you can do) during this time his walk animation stops, he walks up to the rock and triggers his dialogue and immediately the fight begins.
The only "rock skip" I could find was a TAS Walking in between the spikes, not at all walking through an encounter. Because the game forces you to stop moving during encounters.
I've been able to pull this glitch off many times before in the past. And on top of this, 7th place by Isaiah has the same glitch happen too, not quite the same way but still rock skip.
The game is a glitchy mess so you can move while getting an encounter occasionally and talk to the rock
Let me clear something up. Rock skip is possible RTA, but not how TAS pulls it off. Snowie has done RTA Rock Skip multiple times, and 7th place by Isaiah has the same glitch happen too, not quite the same way but still rock skip. Like starsmiley said, the game is glitchy so sometimes you can move while getting an encounter and talk to the rock. The video that SpeedyBarones is an example of RTA Rock Skip (i believe). This thread should be locked imo.
