Glitchless Category in the original SMB1 leaderboard?

Very good idea, although it won't gain much more popularity because it is very similar to regular any%.

Yeah, it is very similar to any% just without flagpole glitch (0.35 seconds saved per FPG), bullet bill glitch (0.7 seconds saved), wrong warps in 4-2 and 8-4 (a few seconds saved) - so just any% but a few seconds slower.

But it's so so much easier because you can't do those insane tricks like FPG, BBG.

I don't think they would start with that, I know I didn't, but I mean it still wouldn't make much of a difference with slower times, as you are not doing BBG, FPG, you just wouldn't learn Wrong Warp, wall jump. I'd say it would not affect beginner speedrunners, until they get better, in which they have to start thinking about grinding their scores down, instead of getting new tricks. It could be interesting. I highly doubt mods would want to do that, even put it in the miscellaneous section.

Why would there be a glitchless category if you can only save time at 8-4, about few frames

just run it and submit it under any% like every other unskilled player classic "any% minus the tricks i don't like"

this would seriously look like a dragster leaderboard; 30 people on the first place

I am not saying the idea is bad, though.

Not exactly, Dragster is currently looking truly perfect right now. How many people are really gonna try and work really hard to get WR in Glitchless? While 1-1 to 8-3 is perfect, 8-4 is not, and maybe even the title screen can save some time. The challenge is how perfect are you willing to go? There is also time to save going for perfect title screen press (Twin Galaxies timing method...) and how perfect you would make 8-4.

Jumpyluff he never complained about the difficult tricks, he just had a suggestion to bring Glitchless to the standard SMB place, which is not a bad suggestion, not a bad idea anyway. Nothing is wrong with putting ideas out there, but you kinda tried to shut him down, not cool.

@Lul_ecks_dee Framerules still apply on title screen, so as the countdown of -3.27 would still be perfect.

Moving glitchless to the SMB1 from the SMBCE leaderboard would either: a} require us to manually recreate each run from scratch b} require us to ask every person who has submitted a run to that category to resubmit it on the SMB1 leaderboard

Glitchless isn't considered to be a serious category which is why it's on the CE board.

Glitchless categories in 2D Mario games historically have not been very popular and I don't imagine that will significantly change. Most runners and viewers are fascinated with breaking the game and find it more interesting to see cool "tricks."

@KingOf_JonnyBoy Yes, framerules apply on the title screen, that's exactly why the timing matters. See, the timing method used in Glitchless is like Twin Galaxies, if you watched the WR for the game, you would see that Kosmic starts the timer as soon as he presses start on the title screen to enter the game, that's how you have to play it. So yes, the timing of when you press start matters, due to framerules.

Glitchless record won't be tied by 30 people, because the perfect 4-2 is hard, perfect non-walljump is hard and there are always frames to save in 8-4 via fast acceleration. And perfect titlescreen timing too of course, but I think if the category really gets that popular it should be changed to normal timing. Anyway I agree with there being no point in moving it to the main board.

Perfect 4-2? Is there still time to save in 4-2? Or is it just super hard? But yeah 8-4 is hard plus you have to get perfect title screen.

I lost the 8-1 judges FR in my glitchless run and didn't notice it... I think. Beyond that, the run is pretty good.. It took me a week to do it, and I got the time when I had a 4:58.

4-2 is tricky to get to the vine fast enough to save the FR.
