pl8-1 no fast accel at the start

this is a setup that will give you pl8-1 without the fast accel at the beginning. instead you do a backwards jump a couple frames after running (about when mario is right at the right black door of the castle). On that exact frame, you need to do a one frame left press, and then switch back to right and jump on the same frame.

Since your subpixels will be different aswell, you'll need to lose 9 instead of just 2 subpixels. Releasing right for four frames while running on the ground works, maybe there will be a better setup in the future. That will give you D70 subpixels, so normal pl8-1 stair/pole inputs will give you flagpole glitch.

I don't know if this is easier than the current setup, but the fast accel used here has a much better visual cue and is easier to time correctly, so some people might find it easier.

47.95 seconds on the practice rom is the same time as normal pl8-1. (also, since it's R00, it would need to lose 21 frames over pl8-1, which it definitely didn't)

Speedsavirrunner, even tho this is completely unrelated to this thread. yes you can do fpg on super Mario bros all stars, and you can do bbg however it’s softlocks the game.

you make the accel later to get faster at running speed, is actualy kind of the second fast accel in TAS double fast accel yeah i guess it works as well, probably harder also because you have to know the exact frame where you get running speed, and you have to make the inputs in 1 in the exact position from running, but idk is cool if it works and somebody finds it easier

It's known that it's possible to get the TAS 8-1 framerule with a fast accel that only saves 1 frame. However, in that case you also need a lucky enough subspeed and perfect (?) pole inputs so that you save an extra frame walking to the castle. I'm not one to say how difficult that is to do RTA, but it is one more thing that you'd have to worry about that's not an issue with the current setup.

To sum this up, the backwards jump done in that tas is in my opinion and most people's opinions harder than a normal fast accel, as since to do fpg after that you have to do a setup, you need to do it perfectly or at most 3 subpixels close to perfect (plus releasing right in the ground is not a good setup for losing subpixels as depending on your subspeed it might lose different amounts of subpixels.). Plus since this fast accel only saves 1 frame, you need a lucky frame to be saved while walking to the castle, which I don't think many runners want to depend on. So I don't think this strat has any use.

there's any% guides in the Guide tab in the leaderboards. i think most of them have BBG tutorial. for FPG tutorial, you might need to do a quick search on youtube
