Why is Autosplitter even a rule?

If we're basing the leaderboards on IGT, wouldn't that make livesplit irrelevent? I was looking over my speedruns and I forgot to post a PC Claire A PB I got back in 2014 (When autosplitters didnt exist), so my livesplit was pure manual.

It was rejected because of that rule. So that would imply -all- my runs I did back then are now suddenly invalidated.

How as a community did we come up with this backwards rule that has no purpose to the legitimacy of the game.

I answered you respectfully in private, what is the need for this thread sir?

  • Runs MUST show In-Game Time with SRT or with LiveSplit script this was made mandatory from 2016-01-01.* Your run, that YOU forgot to submit is not mine nor anybody else's fault. I tried to be respectful but you're being disrespectful now. Your question has already been answered.

It was never explained to me how as a community came to it. You never explained the reasoning. You just said "It's a rule we implemented, I literally have no idea why they have to match."

How is that a proper answer?

I'm asking the -community- for a reason that would give a detailed explanation as to why this is a ruling that isn't just re-reading the wording. What was the discussion and the reasoning behind this? It gatekeeps an entire legacy of runs prior to this.

If the run you tried to submit was already on the leaderboards prior to the rule, it wouldn't have been rejected, we have runs on the board that don't display IGT from before the rule that still remain on the board, no runs were rejected when the rule was implemented.

The rule was put in place to deter cheating and theres absolutely no exceptions to the rule regardless of when in history the run was completed.

Requiring autosplitters or SRTs to show the IGT is also a rule that's almost universal across all RE games, this isn't an RE2 specific rule, although i believe we were the first to implement it due to many cheated submissions.

It's useful information for the runner, viewers on stream and moderators.

It's far from a backwards rule.

Not once did I say I have no idea why it was implemented.

Thank you StevenMayte for a proper response.
