Individual track time attack

Yes, I figured out by accident how to use analog controls. Basically you need any gamepad (I'm using a PS4 controller but XBox works as well) and select the "Wheel" option in POD to configure it. Somehow the game will think your controller is a wheel and you get analog controls. It takes some time to get used to it but I think it's really worth it!

Sorry to change the subject, lads, but just a heads up that, after doing much research on the game, Ive decided to only allow the original base 8 vehicles when speedrunning the entire championship, just to try and keep some consistency, since there have been many game versions. Nothing changed for IL's leaderboards.

Also, ive seen this run (), and thought it was really neat, but Im not sure if I should allow something like that for future runs. I would like to allow it, tbh... Those exploits are normal in speedrunning either way, but since Ive seen mixed opinions on it from the past, Id like to hear what you think.

Cheers!

Yes, I figured out by accident how to use analog controls. Ah damn, that means I'm out of POD running until this pandemic ends and I can start having an income again. Trying to get a tidy line around corners with digital controls is very hard, especially with the Shark that slips so easily.

Also, ive seen this run (), and thought it was really neat, but Im not sure if I should allow something like that for future runs. This seems fine to me. I had actually noticed that on Beltane it was possible to go OOB by riding the walls, but never thought of doing it there.

"after doing much research on the game, Ive decided to only allow the original base 8 vehicles when speedrunning the entire championship" Would you be so kind and explain your reasoning/research? I absolutely understand not allowing the extra cars. But POD Gold has 16 original cars, and I assume almost everyone would be using that version of the game.

"Ah damn, that means I'm out of POD running until this pandemic ends and I can start having an income again" I have a few extra controllers lying around, I will gladly send you one if you want. Can't let you just stop, now that I started playing again :)

I'd pay you once we can start working again. It is something I'm wanting to get anyway. I've gotten back into speedrunning because of the lockdown but quickly realised I am woefully equipped, and I had to keep myself from spending money on non-essential stuff. I was actually looking around the internet shops for a gamepad around the start of April, then decided against it!

I gave you my reasoning, being that there have been many game versions, including some that come preloaded with 16 cars also, but different ones that POD Gold has. My research was on very old game forums, so it made more sense to just keep the base 8, since all versions come with that. Now its your turn to give your reasoning to not like that change (sorry to assume, but your questioning made no sense), and I hope is not because youre biased towards some vehicles.

Sorry if my post came off wrong. I'll try to make more sense this time.

Short version: allow all 16 POD Gold cars OR allow every official car.

Long version: Let's assume everyone uses POD Gold anyway, because it's the only version available today. But in that case all 16 cars should be playable. Excluding the extra ones makes sense!

If all old versions of the game are considered, then every single official car should be allowed. It's like disallowing DLCs because not everyone can buy it. Aren't speedruns mostly played on the fastest version of a game, or the most glitched?

Why would we disallow content that is in the game? Maybe just have 2 categories as I suggested a few days ago: "POD Gold (16 cars)" / "All cars"

Hope this made sense! I respect your decision either way, let's just race :)

Sorry, re-reading my post is clear that I was a bit rude, but it wasnt my intention. I was actually thinking of the people that still own the very first released pod cds, but now that I think more about it, they would have to update their game anyway unless they REALLY wanted to play on the veeeery specific hardware of the time, which is doubtful. But I still dont understand why you want to allow the extra vehicles anyway, do you mind giving a little bit more reasoning? I ask because, like I said, there have been versions with the extra 16 vehicles but they differ from the pod gold ones... its just really messy and its really hard to make a decision. Should I just allow all the vehicles then? I feel like it will be really boring to see everyone picking the best car... Im leaning more towards to just allowing all the cars now instead of dividing the categories...

Considering the Gog version is the de facto standard, I don't see why we should disallow parts of it. I think the point that everyone would use the same car is moot, as that is how things would end up anyway if we were able to determine which one out of the base 8 is the best.

Don't worry about it, all good! :)

It's a quite a tricky situation I agree. The argument for allowing all cars would be that runners want to achieve the best possible times, and knowing that there are better cars that you can't use is a bit frustrating. Even with only the basic cars everyone will find out which one is the best anyway.

I would be totally fine with just having the 16 POD Gold cars for full-game runs. Everyone should have access to them anyway, and there's no extra installation needed. My issue was mostly with having only 8 cars, not with disallowing the extras.

There's no rush to decide anything, we can take our time.

Wow, Im glad that I decided to hear your opinions, because I was being extremely silly, sorry! Indeed, eventually everyone would pick the best car for speedrunning, so me trying to control it was just nonsense. These irrational thoughts are so scary! xD

Thank you Splaysh and RocketToMars for working with my insanity and helping me decide :P all back to normal then.

Let's just race indeed!

Hi! I used to play the demo of this game with my brother, and we played a lot. We owned other games, but this one we kept coming back to. We used to time attack on Lake, the only available track in the game, on the only available car for the demo, and I'm all but certain that we would get times much faster than the current lake record with a different strat. I don't think we have the old computer anymore, so I will have to try and recreate it. If anyone more experienced with the game currently ants to attempt it, the trick was to take the jump over the bridge area just right to land to the right of the bridge, on the brown area. There is a path that leads back to the main track which would save a nice chunk of time.

Neat, I hadn't spotted that shortcut! I bet there are several in the extra 16 tracks that I haven't seen yet, since they are much more complex than the base 16. My current record was made with the slower car anyway, so it was already obsolete and waiting to be replaced.

Lake is such a weird track to include as a demo anyway, since it's not even in the main championship. It is pretty fun though.

Hey, newcomer here I just looked at the tracks you can post a speedrun for on this website and thought : Why aren't reverse tracks proposed here ? You can unlock them very easily by typing "M-I-R-R-O-R" on the main menu, and some of them vary greatly from their original counterparts : https://www.ign.com/wikis/pod-planet-of-death/PC_Cheats

Hi guys,

Just discovered this place.

I used to play the game a lot and to post a lot of three laps Ghosts on Qball Ghost gallery back in the days.

http://web.archive.org/web/20010922182550/http://qball.simplenet.com/pod/ghostsio/top5.html

Like it's been said here, those lap times might seem insane for people new to the game. But back in 1998/2001 it was just normal high level Pod playing ;) It wasn't rare to see those top times live while playing online on gameservice.

I've started a YT channel showing HowTo those fast laps.

https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLhjsnzYnSRJjYNJrt9ruL9ShY8JWhAdIW

Someone told me today to post this here also.

So I've posted 25 TimeAttack entries today. 2 of them with a #nocheckpointbug on Roc and HQ because I hate those dumb shortcuts ;)

The rest of the tracks will come in Time. And.I might be tempted to try my Luck on a full run.

I would love to see a #crash subcategory for the full run. Just to allow a Real Time attack full run.
