I recently ran Tanglewood and instead of looking for the usual equipment I decided to try and get the Mare ability (it immediately turning off the light after the player turns it on) This run got declined for 'guessing based on ability' even though this ability would give a higher percentage of succesion then finding the 2 evidences and then guessing it. In the current solo nightmare tanglewood world record the runner had Spirit Box and Ghost Orb and then guessed and got Mare with a 25% succes rate. My run however immediately got the Mare ability and I left. There is only around a 95% that I was correct since it could also be a Mimic or another ghost could've interacted with the lights at the same time I was checking.

What if you placed down a DOTS and saw a ghost on the cam but not in the hallway, you know its a Goryo Or when you place salt and don't see footprints... Wraith! A Multithrow A Ghost disappearing at the time your camera flashes from taking a Picture The Banshee screeching in the Parabolic Mic A Yurei fully closing a door The Hantu's freezing breath a Myling being quiet a Revenant moving at the speed of sound fingerprints with 6 fingers

Do these things not count? You can easily identify the ghost by looking at their abilities but instead you have to get the evidences for a speedrun... Its not guessing based on their abilities I KNOW that I have a Mare on my hands since it did it's unique and special ability that only the Mare can do.

Our base rule was created before nightmare appeared. We had to force players to actually witness the evidences in order to prevent guessing (among other things). When nightmare was added to the game, we had no choice but to allow the guessing of the last evidence only. You can guess that last evidence in any way you want, however the previous rule still applies, you need to see the other 2 evidences.

The current WR sees 2 evidences, then guess the last one by pure luck or any other reason. This is valid according to our current ruleset.

For now we don't have plans to accept guessing the ghost based on its ability. Because even though we have a lot of confirmed abilities, this is not a 100% situation where you can say for sure that the ability was what you actually saw.
