All Pokemon Beginner Guide

This guide was made using pwndnoob's Marathon run in June of 2022. Watching his video is a great way to see the things talked about in this guide if you don't understand something. I wrote it as I was learning the route, so it's very beginner friendly.

New Pokemon Snap: All Pokemon Guide

Please note: The guide is sorted by area, and not by order of game played. I think it’s more important to put all the Jungles together. 

Florio
Revisit Pokemon: Shaymin, Heracross, Sylveon, Vespiquen

Park Day/Night:
Very straightforward. We need to get to Level 2 on both levels in one visit, and can do so with minimal repeats (I do 2 repeats in Day and 1 in Night). There isn’t much time to save or lose and as a reminder any extra Pokemon are by definition going to be repeated. Hit the goal on the first try on both so we can utilize Meganium loading times. 


Meganium: That’s a nice butt. Enter again and take another pic for Todd cutscene. 

Park Night Revisit:
All four revisit Pokemon are available in Park Night, so we don’t need to return to Park Day. Heracross is the problem child, but after scanning Pinsir, orbing his horns, and then scanning again after he moves you can take Heracross later in the level. We have 3 other mons but can't leave the level due to alternative route that you are forced to take. You can drift left around both Bidoofs.

Lab: 
Lab has two options, and both are interesting. The original version with sleeping Meowth is the shorter level by about 13 seconds but the Rattata picture is difficult. You have to lure Meowth to the porch, snap Bunnulby during the unseen fight, and then snap Rattata before going inside, which is very finicky. The longer route but less risky and less potential timeloss has Rattata at the campfire, and the only place you have to stop boosting is for the inside balcony Meowth. Don’t bother snapping Pikachu or caring about points.


Jungle
Revisit Pokemon: Venusaur, Sobble, Mew, Leafeon, Swampert 

Jungle Day 1: 
We need to get 90,000 points in 2 visits, with the first visit having no orbs or turbo. There are ten Pokemon to gather, and in general we want to be scoring high, doing the more complicated apple throws, and being consistent as we won’t revisit Jungle Day for a few hours. As a result, the only 1 Star I take is Aipom, to allow the revisit to be mainly 1-Stars

Jungle Night 1:
Other than reaching Level 2 and being quick, the main goal of Jungle Night 1 is to avoid making Jungle Day 2 harder. I tried to match what I’ve done in Jungle Day 1 (e.g. 2Star Liepard on both) so in situations where autoselect is making the selection in Jungle Day 2 it can select the novel star value instead of potentially matching Jungle Day Level 1.

Jungle Night 2:
Music to summon Mew, don't get greedy by looking forward too much because he might not be summoned. Try to get Leafeon off the path as you approach the swamp, likely drifting left to truly avoid. Quit out after collecting Swampert’s head.

Jungle Day 2:
We want to at all costs avoid matching star values with Jungle Day 1. We need every point, every Pokemon to avoid an unwanted visit. I personally don’t touch the Arbok/Wooper as the path gets blocked and instead take a later Wooper, meaning I quit out later than possibly could. Avoid Aipom blockage if possible. We want to leave Beautify and Bounsweet 1Stars available as they are our backups.

Jungle Day 3:
Get Venusaur and quit after getting Sobble. It’s hard to say what constitutes a legal Sobble picture as his first appearance is heavily covered by leaves, so I’ve generally played it safe. 

Belusylva (Not including Jungle)
Revisit Pokemon: Gardvoir, Ninetales, Serperior, Celebi, Espeon

Forest 1: 
Is the easiest level in the run as there are so many unique Pokemon we are obligated to grab. Never look backwards, don’t get blocked, and do Bewear Boost. Applin is available while you are being Bewear Boosted but if you don’t snap just get in the revisit. 

Milotic: That’s a nice neck

Forest 2: 
Cross fingers that we get Winter and not Fall. We want to grab Gardvoir and Ninetails in Winter, and then get to the ruins. If you still need an Applin they are right behind us upon entering the ruins, and Serperior has their tail showing behind the tree that is behind sleeping Drampa. The tail is satisfactory; you don’t need to throw anything to get a better picture. If you get Fall there is likely merit in quitting out and going back to last save, but I have yet to get Fall on the first visit so it might be set and not RNG.

Espeon:
Espeon is available at the start of Forest Level 3, and you could theoretically get the 110k points to get to Level 3. Instead, you can and should grab Espeon from the Milotic Illumina level. CAREFUL, Espeon pics are possible where you can miss size. To be safe, after the cart turns, you can wait for blue flowers to appear around Espeon and get a legitimate picture. 

Voluca
Revisit Pokemon: Silicobra, Flygon, Tyranitar, Ho-oh, Flareon

Sands Day/Night: Not unsimilar from Park, where our goal is to get Level 2 in both levels and avoid repeats. Our shopping list has 12 Pokemon and we need 14-16 combined to beat both levels. We are forced to get orb and learn about Volcano, so we can get Silicobra on our Sands Night revisit. 

Volcano Level 1:
This should look very similar to Any% if you took every picture. Unlike Jungle Day, our revisit won’t have turbo, so routing is based on which level it’s easier to get. I lean towards just doing very high scoring Any% Pokemon because I’m comfortable with them.

Volcano Level 2: 
Avoiding matching stars in the name of the game. The interesting shots, in my opinion, are the Talonflame that flies through the cavern, catching a good Monferno, reconciling Graveler, not being tricked by Archeops, Slugma or Charmander on what is what star value, and of course Charizard summon. If you mess up Charizard summon, it’ll be a huge timeloss so be precise. If you are confident you can skip Luxray at the end. The revisit backup is Shinx.

Volcarona: That’s a nice butt.

Sands Day 2:
With Silicobra completed earlier, our only needs are Flygon and Tyranitar. Summon Flygon with the 3 flowers, and quit once snap Tyranitar coming over the ridge.

Volcano 3: 
Ho-oh is to your back and right being yelled at by a Charmander at the start. Flareon can be seen in Blue Magma room from the Charizard hallway, but be careful to not be bamboozled by the Graveller.

Maricopia (Not including Undersea)
Revisit Pokemon: Zangoose, Seviper,Sandygast, Manaphy

Beach Day: 
Plays similarly to Any% except we get to take good pictures. Our shopping list is Crabrawler, Exeggutor, Bellosum and Stunfisk, and then everything else is filler to get to 30,000.

Reef Day: 
Everything is a repeat, so just get to 35k and move on. Similar to Jungle Night, it may be helpful to choose poses based on what Undersea autoselect, particularly for Corsola and Finneon.  

Beach Night: 
We have three Pokemon to grab and can’t exit the level, so let us turbo. Get your apples and drift ready to avoid a few blocking Pokemon. Boop the Zangoose to hold him back, specifically.

Reef Night:
Now my favorite level of the run, but boy is it hectic. We need 50k and there are 14 available Pokemon. It’s a lot of balancing what is fast, what is reliable, and what is high scoring. I personally slow down for Inkay and around the whirlpool but otherwise it’s all turbo. The easiest backup is an Inkay.

Manaphy Skip:
We enter Reef Night Level 2 with the hope to get out. Light up both flowers (before whirlpool and Vivillon flower) and Wailord will make space for a Manaphy/Inkay dance party. Stop boosting as soon as the Wailord starts dipping, and take a pic of Manaphy shortly before hitting the Wailord and being considered at the intersection, then quit out. If you take too soon you can fail to get a large enough Manaphy to be considered reviewable, and too late and you’ll be stuck on the level till the exit. 

Wishiwashi: That’s a nice butt. Don’t mess about, as there is a surprising amount of potential timeloss.

Undersea:
Revisit Pokemon: Alolomola, Starmie, Lugia

Undersea 1:
 We need 110,000 points in our 3 forced visits, and we can get 12 on our first visit. Star values are crucial, and you need to note any time you don’t replicate your planned strategy. Nothing too unfamiliar to Any% run, and I suggest just getting the highest points you know how.

Undersea 2: 
We must rig a duel between Clawitzer but before that we gotta take more pics. I suggest taking as many as you know how, and trimming back on 3rd visit if overdone. Leave after the Clawitzer loser bubbles away. 

Undersea 3: 
We will have a point total to hit, so it’s time for some math. The Pokemon we can only get on the third visit are Chinchou, Lanturn, and Golisopod for ~10000 points. Pokemon that we didn’t see in one of the prior levels are usually our best bet for safe points, including but not limited to Clawitzer, Tentacruel, Frillish, and Cradily. Wailmer, Lumineon and Finneon I find are also easy to get three different star values for. 

Undersea 4: 
Alolomola and Starmie you will get by facing forward, and then you have the Lanturn quest for Lugia. Orb him, save him from the Frillish and watch him take the Lugia exit (don’t look at your phone like me…). You can’t quit out after Lugia so just keep trucking ahead. 
Snow:
Revisit Pokemon: Crabominable, Glaceon, Froslass	, Dewgong, Avalugg, Aurorus, Suicune

Snow Day:
Snow Night is the harder level so my strategy is to get a lot of the Pokemon that aren’t as helpful in Snow Night out of the way. Garbage pics of Cubchoo and Snom come to mind. Skarmory is the hardest Pokemon to snap, I turn around before going up the hill to get him at a decent click. Could route to skip Beartic as get him in Cave for pitiful points. Good luck dodging.

Snow Night: 
We have revisit Mightyena and potentially Piplup in our pocket, so we can push our strategy a bit. Weavile is in a tree near the Ferret holes, if you didn’t already know. Otherwise, beyond Vulpix, it plays like a very poorly routed Any%. Revisit and get remaining points with Mighty butt.

Snow Day Revisit:
Otherwise known as Sandslash skip, we take pictures of Sandslash twice to get him to open the alternative path. HOWEVER, once we have taken the alternative path we do not enter the snow. You can quit out before the snow and submit our Sandslash pic. If you go through the snow you’ll have to wait out the whole level, which has nothing for us that we can’t get in Snow Night.

Snow Night Revisit:
We have a list of Pokemon to get in Crabominable, Glaceon, Froslass, Dewgong, Avalugg, Aurorus, Suicune. The more difficult part is the Crabominable area, where we need to get Glaceon unfrozen and snap, while also keeping Crabonminable illuminated and not let Froslass sneak away without the photo and photo trigger. Once through the alternative path, summon Suicune by illuminating the joyriding Jynx, and don’t get clever with pictures.

Steelix: A smile only a mother could love.

Cave:
Revisit Pokemon: Pumpkaboo, Hydreigon, Goodra, Jolteon, Diancie

Cave 1: 
It’s Any% but you are taking all 13 Pokemon. This includes finding a reasonable Carbink, everything in Chaos Cavern, and flower summoning the Noibats. You could cut Beartic in theory, but I find the points help cover for inevitable pitfalls. Be consistent, as we want to get through Cave 2 without having to think, as there simply isn’t time to think.

Cave 2: 
We’ve got everything; easily forgettable Pokemon, difficult to understand star values, and too many Pokemon who want to be snapped all at once. A couple of favorites of mine are remembering to snap Clefairy and Drifloon, working with Croagunk, Sableeye and Rampardos to get novel star values. I suggest orbing Carbink twice and getting the battle animation against the Sableye, as it makes sure you get a new star value and provides a nice 1-2 star backup if you have to revisit.

Cave 3:
We have to pop left to grab Goodra, so do that. I also grab Hydreigon and Pumpkaboo on this trip out, because why not. You can quit after Goodra pic as it is a familiar path.

Cave 4: 
Now we head left for Diancie and Jolteon. I’ve now twice been so distracted by the orbing of Diancie that I’ve forgotten to snap a picture, so make sure you do that. Don’t get clever with the alternative paths, they can be hard to snag if you turbo too much.

Aurus
Revisit Pokemon: Chandelure, Absol, Umbreon

Ruins 1 and Ruins 2:
After drifting left to avoid the 2nd Houndoom, throw an apple into the well and get Shiny Woobat for your Illumina credit. Also get the other 8 Pokemon. There is nothing too clever here, but make sure you grab Salandit and Natu. If you miss a Pokemon you get a free revisit, but we prefer our attention is saved for YEETS. We don’t want or need level 2, so don’t worry about points.

Xerneas: Now that’s a nice butt.

Ruins 3:
Take a picture of Jirachi and get out. The punk likes to hide with the Eldegoss but you can snap before then.

Illuminati Ruins:
We have three Pokemon left, and 3 of them are easy. Absol, as far as I can tell, requires us to complete the Xerneas Ball minigame again in the water, so do that. Quit out after Umbreon sleeping pic.

Other Notes:

Don’t worry if you end up taking an extra snap here or there. Everything is a repeat eventually because we are getting everything.

The easiest way to note you’ve missed a Pokemon is when you don’t get the sticker for an area. A lot of misses can be gotten on revisits, so make sure you are submitting the number of pictures you expect to get. 

Be flexible. You will get pictures that aren’t the star value you were expecting. Jot them down or commit to memory, and use your knowledge of the game to recover. If in doubt, take lots of good pictures and let autoselect save you.
