Softlocks and how to avoid them. [WIP]

I'm going to be using the term "softlocks" pretty liberally here, and just trying to list anything that loses a lot of time, or can generously be interpreted as a softlock even if it doesn't fit the exact definition.

#Team Player
Shepard doesn't spawn at the end of the level.

Mostly, you shouldn't have to worry about this softlock, you need to be ahead of wr pace through the school to hit it.

It is caused by crossing the red line in this picture before the circled area of dialogue is spoken. Since you don't know if this softlock has been hit until the end of the level, you can't last checkpoint to avoid it and will have to restart the entire level.


#Cliffhanger
Soap doesn't teleport to the top of the hill after you jump down (just before the snowmobile section).

We have no idea how or why this happens, or how to prevent it. Current theories include, going too fast/soap ai rng being too slow, not jumping down the hill in the correct position, or something to do with soap starting an animation at the wrong time. If you see this just load last checkpoint and it shouldn't happen again, it is fairly rare.

#Wolverines
Foley gets stuck inside the blown up nates restaurant.

We have no idea how or why this happens, but it is exceedingly rare, this is the only known example caught on video.

#Hornets Nest
When falling off the roof you die instead of your screen going black.

This isn't actually a softlock, but is dependent upon killing enough enemies, most runs will just kill the 4 that approach from the roof, but there are more that spawn later that your teammates need to kill, usually this happens fast enough, but sometimes it can take a long time, leading to it appearing like a softlock. You know this section is complete when Soap says: "Come on! We've got to get to the rooftops, this way!"

#Exodus
Entering the panic room puts foley into a walking state, so doing this too early can lose you several minutes.

#The Gulag
Breaching into the room that should contain price, and instead falling through the map.

This is caused by breaching into the shower room before Ghosts dialogue: "The old shower room's about thirty feet ahead on your left. You'll have to breach the wall to get in." starts. This is triggered by killing the first 3 enemies after you crouch under the pipes, and to be specific as soon as you see the subtitles appear on screen then you are good to start the breach. The way to know if you hit it or not is to check the riot shielders in the 2nd half of the shower room, if they do not spawn then you will softlock, so at this point you should load last checkpoint and wait longer before breaching. If you make it all the way to the price breach with the softlock, then you need to restart the level.

#Contingency
Price will not enter the submarine

95% sure this is caused by entering the forest while still detected. Theory is not confirmed yet.
There is no method currently known to detect if you have the softlock until reaching the final area. Price will be far slower than normal, and if you wait for him to get all the way to the end he will take cover around your position instead of entering the submarine.

#Second Sun
Foley and Dunn stay out in the street at the end of the level

This one is exceedingly rare, and we have no idea what causes it or why, but it doesn't seem to be a true softlock as running around in some manner has been known to get them moving again.

#Whiskey Hotel
Foley teleports away from the west wing.

This only happens when attempting the skip, and isn't actually a softlock, this happens when Foley doesn't get to his position inside the room fast enough, most commonly from being almost but not quite fast enough to hit the skip. He will teleport back after completing his dialogue with the captain, and this is still faster than no skip, so just keep going if you get it in a run.

#Loose Ends
Getting stuck under the map near the start.

This just happens if you land in the wrong spot when the mines go off, and I think it's fairly precise. Stay further right than the video and you should be fine, left side works too.
