Prob regarding Marget Carta on emulator

I currently am using Project64 1.6 as that's what I've heard is allowed in speedrunning, if it isn't do tell me otherwise.

Anyway I tried running the normal course the other day and everything ran fine until when I get up to Magnet Carta. When the minigame started my fps droped to almost nothing, but when the minigame ended everything returned to normal. This seemed to just be an issue when the cars were actually moving I believe.

Is this a prob with 1.6? I've seen people using 1.7 with their runs and it seems fine on their end, I have been looking for a safe site to grab a 1.7 build for ages but alas no dice.

if anyone can lend a hand on either or both of these probs that would be greatly appreciated.
