GSSH Software Guide

This is the list of free software I personally use to speedrun GSSH.
If you have questions about any of the following software, you can ask me about it and I'll most likely be able to help you out with it.

# Recording: OBS
Pretty much the best and most common way to record video.
You'll find plenty of guides for how to set it up on the internet.

# Video editing: Shotcut
You can use any video editing software to cut and re-time your runs, this is the free one I personally use.
You can find guides online for using it, I'm still not great at using it.

# Autosplitter: Auto-Split by Toufool
This  tool is great to automatically advance to the next split when you do a section in a run, but it's not the most intuitive to set up. **If you're going to use this, I HIGHLY recommend you also use [Custom Javascript for Websites 2](#ch5_QoL_Custom_JavaScript_for_Websites_2).**

**1a.** Click Select Window, and click your browser window that has GSSH running. You should see your browser screen appear in "Capture Region", to the right of the Select Window button. (If you don't, try disabling hardware acceleration in your browser settings.)
**1b**. Click Select region, and drag a rectangle over the GSSH game itself. It should crop your Capture Region to only the game screen. (see the Capture Region in the screenshot)
**1c**. You wanna write down the numbers in the X, Y, Width and Height boxes, and put them in whenever you start the autosplitter and click Select Window. This will make sure that your split images always work. 

**2a.** Set the comparison method to Histograms. 
**2b.** If you find that autosplitter is splitting when it shouldn't during runs, check "Custom thresholds" and increase the similarity threshold. If it isn't splitting when it should, decrease the threshold, and make sure your Split Images are okay. 
**2c.** If your splits are too close together, you might need to click "Custom pause times" and decrease the pause time down to 0 or 1 second. I recommend doing this anyways, since GSSH doesn't need this feature. 

**3.** Set your Split hotkey and Reset hotkey to the same ones that you use for Livesplit. You can do the same for Skip and Undo if you use them. 
**4.** Create a new folder for the category you're running, and browse to it in the bar at the top. I usually put these folders in the AutoSplit folder itself. 

**5.** Creating your split images. You're going to need an image editor with transparency, such as [paint.net](https://www.getpaint.net/).
**5a.** For each split in your run, find a part of your screen that changes consistently. For example, if you're collecting a donut, the red cross on the list on the left is a good idea. If you're collecting an item, you could use the image of the item in your inventory.
**5b.** After you collect the donut or the item, or do the thing required for the split, go in AutoSplit and click the "Take Screenshot" button.
**5c.** Open up the screenshot in your image editor software (the screenshot is going to be in the folder you selected in step 4), and isolate the part of the screen you chose in step 5a, making everything else transparent. So, for example, you would select a rectangle over the part of the screen, invert your selection, and press delete to delete everything else. Below is what my bats split image looks like, your split images should look a bit like that. (Most of the image is transparent, because the dimensions of the image have to stay the same as your region)

**5d.** Save the split image as "(Number)_(Name)_{m}.png" in your split images folder. (Number) is the number of the split, written with three digits. So for your first split it would be 001, for your second 002, and so on. (Name) is whatever you want it to be. Here's what my split images folder looks like for GSSH1 Warpless.

**6.** You're done! You don't need to press the "Start Auto Splitter" button, since it's already bound to your LiveSplit hotkey, you can just start running the game. However, setting up Auto-Split is quite finicky and error-prone, so if anything goes wrong or it doesn't work, I'll be glad to help you set it up. There's also more information on the github page.

# QoL: Custom JavaScript for Websites 2
This is nice to have in general, but almost mandatory if you're gonna use an Autosplitter.
You want to go on the GSSH page, click the extension, click "Enable cjs for this host", and change "None" to some version of jQuery 3 in the external scripts dropdown. (see screenshot)

Then, in the box below, you wanna put these two lines in. (You can also put these lines in your Chrome console, if you know how to do that)

The first line resizes your GSSH game screen so that you can see the numbers box that's above the game, out of bounds.
The second line scrolls down to the game when you refresh the page, which is pretty much mandatory if you're gonna use an autosplitter.

I currently have the page zoomed in to 250% size, to get a bigger game screen (use Ctrl+Mouse wheel up to do so), so these are the values that work for me. They're probably not gonna work for you right away, so feel free to change the "425px" in the first line if the game screen is too big or small, and the "282" in the second line if the webpage scrolls too high or low on refresh.

# Emulator: Flash Player projector
Flash Player projector isn't necessary yet, since Chrome still has flash enabled, but when it eventually gets disabled, we might need the projector to run the game. When that's the case, I'll figure out all the quirks of the software and write a guide on it (right now I still don't fully know how to make it work).

How to arrange the books in the shortest time

When arranging the books, you need to put them in alphabetical order, which goes like this, from left to right:
1. Beefs Up (Turqoise);
2. Furry Tales (Green);
3. Garfield Gets Cookin' (Red);
4. How to Draw Garfield (Violet);
5. Insults, Put-Downs & Slams (Blue);
6. Never Accept a Gift with Air Holes (Orange);
7. Party Now. Age Later (Yellow);
8. Stupid Cupid (Brown). 

In a normal run you would click on each of the books in this order, but in a speedrun you have to and can do it faster, because you DON'T have to click on all of the books.

At first, analize the order of the books (which is random). Look at the 'Beefs Up' book, then check if the 'Furry Tales' book is either to the right or to the left of the 'Beefs Up' book. If it is to the left, click on the 'Furry Tales' book, then on the 'Garfield Gets Cookin'' one, and so on, until the 'Stupid Cupid' book. If it is to the right, don't click on any book and continue analizing: if the 'Garfield Gets Cooking'' book is to the left of the 'Furry Tales' book, click on it and on the following books in alphabetical order; if it is to the right, again, continue analizing.

This process may continue to the 'How to Draw Garfield' book, or even further.

How fast you are done depends of the randomized order of the books. You are guaranteed to click 7 times at most.

-Having only 1 book in order: 1 in 2
-Having 2 or more books in order: 1 in 2
-Having 3 or more books in order: 1 in 6
-Having 4 or more books in order: 1 in 24
-Having 5 or more books in order: 1 in 120
-Having 6 or more books in order: 1 in 720
-Having 7 or more books in order: 1 in 5739.93
-Having 8 books in order (perfect order): 1 in 40318.54
