The Grinch PC Setup

In this guide I use an official DVD-ROM of the game inside my computer, there are certainly ‘other ways’ to acquire the game. Just be mindful that you want a version that can mount a disc to a virtual drive, not just the game with the ISO. The reason is that the ISO version does have some bugs such as:

• Losing game audio permanently if entering the underwater area of Who Lake
• The Load Game screen not working properly
• Game crashes are more regular
• Sometimes the OCD climbing wall at the start of Who Lake will not let you grab the ledge on the right hand side (few seconds disadvantage for any%)

Step 1

After inserting/mounting the disc right click and select open

Step 2

Run the Setup.exe and install the game (I install it to my C Drive and select Full Install)

Step 3

After the setup is complete repeat Step 1 and open the folder of the Disc Drive, then the datas folder and afterwards the bin folder

Step 4

Right click the TheGrinch.exe and select Properties. Once in the Properties window select the Compatibility Tab and enable Compatibility Mode afterwards select the drop down option below and be sure to have Windows 95 selected (Windows 98 may work too) then hit apply. Step 5

Run TheGrinch.exe (this should make the resolution on your screen go weird but the game should load up in full screen once past the company logos and at the home screen quit out

Step 6

After quitting out of the game in fullscreen mode repeat Step 4 but this time turn off Compatibility Mode and hit apply (skipping this step will not allow the game to load in DXWND)

Step 7

Download DXWND and open the program, afterwards drag TheGrinch.exe into the blank DXWND window space then right click on the program inside DXWND and select Modify (The modify window should pop up by default when dragging the program in)

Step 8

Copy my settings here, the most important stuff to note is having the window in Desktop Center and running the game in DirectX9 some reason this DirectX worked the best when testing. After this setup is complete you should be able to double click The Grinch program in the DXWND window to launch the game in windowed mode.

Step 9

Feel free to skip this step but here is the controller setting I use. I use a PS2 Controller plugged into my computer using a USB Adaptor or a MUSIA. I then run my controller through a program called JoyToKey which reassigns my button presses to keyboard strokes.

Step 10

When the game is booted up select Configuration and copy my settings here (every time I start up the program I have to change the resolution back to 1024 x 768). The gameplay window will look weird when you Start New Game click the close program button and select no when asked to quit out, click back on your game tab and it should be fixed)

Step 11

This step can be skipped but the best way to capture the gameplay on OBS is using Display Capture. I recommending adding the Crop Filter to your Display Capture, if you copy my settings below this should capture your gameplay correctly (assuming you Desktop centered the gameplay and matched my game resolutions)
