i noticed that a lot of the games i am following have custom badges next to their names (ie, super mario odyssey has a multimoon) and i am wondering how to do that

That's the game's icon - changing this also changes the favicon in the browser

To edit the icon you need to be a mod of the game: Game > Edit Theme > Icon > Browse.../Edit > Save
