Runners who play with arrow keys. How?

I have run multiple games on pc and most of them use arrow keys instead of wasd which I'm used to.

I know I can just rebind the keys for the game with a program like AutoHotKey. But I'm curious about how you runners can adapt to playing with arrow keys (unless you have been playing like that since you started playing video games).

Also, some games are just made for arrow keys and are pretty hard to rebind them to wasd without making it uncomfortable for myself at least.

Play more > get used to it.

That's my experience xD

Both right-handed and left-handed people exist. That probably has some relevance.

I play with arrow keys whenever that's an option, unless the game uses the mouse. It isn't hard for me at all, I'm just used to it. Using WASD is always terrible for me, and sometimes I won't finish a game because I hate playing with WASD.

I'm right-handed, so it makes sense to me to use arrow keys in heavily movement based games. Why wouldn't you want your better hand on the most important aspect of the game?

I'm left-handed, but from a young age I got used to always play with the arrow keys. I only use WASD in first person games, left hand on wasd and right hand on mouse.

I am left-handed as well, so I am used to playing the WASD and arrow keys with my right hand. I can't use the WASD buttons with my left hand, it doesn't feel comfortable now

I always use arrow keys, idk why, just more used to it.

Maybe your keyboard has a bad key layout that makes arrow key harder to use. But yeah only option are play more till you get used to it or rebind, preferably through the keyboard itself as AHK is sort of capricious sometimes.

Reading the thread makes me feel like the odd one out, I always use arrow keys while right handed but I use my left hand for movement and right hand on the mouse, if it's a platformer / shmup and I somehow don't have a gamepad I go cross armed or dual keyboard again with the left hand on movement.

I mean, keyboard layout is a lot of it. Mine's got these awfully small keys that makes it terrible. I'm not completely bothered by use of arrow keys normally, I've sometimes had to use them in awfully complicated emulator keybinds.

I grew up used to WASD on left hand, mouse on right. I don't even really play that many FPS games, it just feels the most right for me.

@TransparentBlue we're in this together I guess

I don't know, I felt comfortable using arrow keys than WASD keys. That doesn't mean I don't use the latter combo at all. In fact, I bing them together along with the 'Q' and 'E' keys.

To be honest I feel that way about playing with mouse & keyboard in general. Will just never feel natural.

As a kid I played my first games on arrow keys solely. Since they were mostly DOS-games rebinding was not a thing at that time. Later when I was introduced to games with WASD as standard layout it first was unusual of course, but it wasn't difficult to learn and I saw advantages to use it. So basically I mostly play games with the given layout. I don't really bother to rebind movement keys. I guess part of this also comes because I am ambidextrous to a high degree. Or maybe I became ambidextrous partly because of these developments.

Most of the Games I played on PC needed Mouse and Keyboard, so I was just stuck with WASD but because I used WASD so long I think I just got used to it. Was a bit weird playing Limbo and Inside again with arrow keys (And I know, you can change controls in Inside but I just didn’t want to)

If I were to learn arrow keys, would it be worth it? Or is it more convenient to just rebind my keys every time I want to play something?

@Output I would recommend playing with whatever controls are comfortable for you
